Elite Dangerous Update 7 Progress

^^^ as far as I understand it getting EDO stable and playable by all that currently own it is priority numero uno.

I'm hoping after that we will see further optimisation and QoL improvements with a view to it been released on consoles.

AFTER that is when I would expect to see new or held back content and that seems, at least to me, the fairest and most logical way of handling the current situation.

...
But my point is that after 6 updates, 7 being the next (ok) how many more will it take to consider odyssey 100% functional? 10 updates ?. twenty?. Can you have 20 updates exclusively of graphical optimizations and hope that the player base will keep?
...
Nobody will know (FDevs included) until it happens.

As a general reference don't expect active content development (besides what it's needed to get Odyssey's basic gameplay in a solid enough state) until either the console release (which requires a solid optimization on pc to be achieved first) or they giving up with being able to release on consoles (which might come along with a cut off of supported hardware even for horizons on pc)

@sallymorganmoore How do and morning, I've been a good boy and avoided asking any console questions for two weeks 😅. Just wandering when EDO moves on to updates for features gameplay etc.. not fixes.
Will consoles be getting any additional gameplay related features or will it all be on hold till EDO is totally finished. Looking forward to update and what it may bring, only thing frustrating me now is lack of timescale and all the Odyssey posts on media "rubbing it in" lol 😅

It's a very good question though... 6 updates in and I still had a pretty rough time playing and trying to enjoy Odyssey last night... From botched visuals to awful lag and stutter to bugs... and I was just going mining and visiting some space ports on foot, nothing too exotic.

At some stage people will lose patience, mine is wearing pretty thin at this point and I'm not even that hopeful that patch 8 will sort out performance (as if that was the only issue). I'll try patch 7 once it's out but will pay close attention to whether it improves things on a more noticeable level (in general, not specific to performance) -if it turns out to be in line with the last 6 updates I might just walk away for my own sanity as it's not really worth getting frustrated over for another half year or however long it takes, if at all.

I hope that we once get the oppertunity to walk in our own settlements we have built on planets, as well as to walk and completing missions in ships, in shipwreaks, in ships which have been disabled, on asteroids and so on.

Up from Update 10 perhaps?

Of course people will lose patience if this drags for too long, as said elsewhere my personal fence to jump if i don't see noticeable improvements (i meant optimizations, they are already making improvements) is set to update 8 (so, no pressure for that...), but the hard truth is still that even they don't (and can't) know the answer.

Nope, future expansion. Which at the moment is probably only in DB's mind (any other copy of the plan burned by the Odyssey's fires).

Oh well..

What I'm trying to say is, allow us to knuckle down and get Odyssey in true shape and then watch the content and fun stuff start to emerge...that's all I can say on that but I wanna be cheeky here and say that...I'm excited for some of the forthcoming updates, honestly....More on those soon(tm).

The thing is, after at least two delays, I thought that Frontier had already knuckled down before releasing Odyssey.

Thanks Sally - it's nice to hear there's new stuff on the horizon. Little hints like the teaser shot of the megaship interior are always welcome, even if they might be months away.
