Elite Dangerous: Updates to Powerplay In Update 7

Unless you make powerplay open only then it’s a failed game mechanic and should be scrapped as all it does is negatively impact the bgs.

You can’t put lipstick on this pig

Greetings Commanders.

This may come as a slightly sudden but hopefully not too unhelpful a shock to you all, but coming along with the next updates for Elite Dangerous Odyssey and Horizons this week, we will be making a small number of tweaks to Powerplay.

Here's an outline below of what you can expect:

Changes To Powerplay
  • The process where control of a starsystem is lost by revolt now correctly accounts for income already provided to competing control systems.
  • Income values will be updated for many control systems so that they are the sum of their own income PLUS all the systems they currently exploit.
    • Income from the week is expected to change.

Why The Changes?

As several Commanders reported via the issue tracker (specifically https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/23052), when some control systems were lost to revolt, Powerplay didn't always correctly account for CC income changes to nearby control systems with overlapping spheres.

In particular, when the same Power had more than one control system claiming a given exploit system during revolt, Powerplay sometimes added that income again to the remaining control system, even if its income value already accounted for that exploit system.

Over time, this resulted in some powers having a higher CC income than the sum of their control and exploit systems.

Update 7 and the Horizons update fixes this logic, and also adjusts the galaxy's income values for the affected control systems, as described in this table:

Certainly appreciate that this may be coming in a little hot ahead of the forthcoming updates this week, as I say, but we really hope this helps!

Really excited to share the full update notes finalised for you and welcome in Update 7 for Odyssey, along with the Quality Of Life update for Horizons on all platforms very soon!

o7 Commanders.
Sorry for a response that isn't gushing, but are you going to look at doing some work to powerplay to make it any better?

Something like meaningful player interaction would go a long way.

I actually already answered this in response to Rubbernuke earlier.
Nowhere in my notes says this is the 'be all end all', this is just a taste of us listening and taking baby steps.

Oh I dunno, there literally is a shade to suit everyone out there.

But yeah, we're still listening and taking the thoughts and having the discussions, just thought you all might like SOMETHING as an appetizer at least.

The table literally is the answer you're looking for here :)

Thank you so much for answering us, but the table is missing income corrections that were part of the original ticket. Some systems in powerplay spheres are not producing the expected income.

ALD powerplay is missing income from the following spheres:
125cc Priva / 56cc currently
102cc Ostyat / 60cc currently
86cc Yab Cameni / 57cc currently

Thank you so much for everything!

Well, having been involved since cycle 1, that's good but belated news.

It has had no real attention for many years, which is a real shame. Almost as if Frontier have given up on it.

I appreciate what you're doing though.

Ok well, entirely up to you whether you feel encouraged or not (I understand why you might want to remain sceptical) but we move o7

The recent resolution to the Hyford's Cache mystery (though i think there still is more to come eventually ;)) was very awesome! I can't tell you how many times CMDRs have poked and prodded at anything even remotely connected to the Black Flight, Hyford, Thargoids, etc to see if it was possible to get that coveted HIP 22460 permit. Though there is one thing left unaccounted for that i don't think is part of a mystery.

If possible, without spoiling anything, current lore-wise, for us. Would it be possible for you to tell us what the original idea behind Hyford's Cache was? Many know it was reworked into the currently ongoing Azimuth story. Many CMDRs, myself included, gathered up a whole bunch of Unstable Data Cores before the change to Hyford's crash site. Could you please tell us what was the original plan behind them? Like maybe where they were originally supposed to be taken once scooped up in our SRVs?

BackGround Simulation.
Everyone and everything has an effect on it, regardless of mode, platform, timezone etc.
The only mistake FDEV made with it is that it is all too finicky.
I have no interest in what you're saying so we'll leave at that.
