Is this leaked footage of the new carrier?*
*No, no, it really isn't

I don't really use the existing decals or even notice them when they are added to ships. I'm neutral, they add nothing, they remove nothing. I'll never see them but if they make some people happy that's OK.What about the new decal / graphic tools coming with this update?...is anybody interested to find out what's going to be possible there?
I haven't (as yet) seen any players interest in this feature posted up on this forum (except mine)... so what's peoples views in that direction?...I'd be interested in their thoughts and speculation.

For me, as a leader of a well established, 10 years old community, it really is not that interesting.Hi All
I'm assuming that in the OP's original picture that there's a mirror image of the left hand carriers landing pads etc. to the right hand side pictured from the front?(as I can't actually see the other side clearly).

it appears that they are intended to be an activity hub to encourage players to group up in an area and possibly play together.Or is it just merely a way for someone to borrow and take out a shared ship, and that's about it? Is that their only raison d'être?
Colonisation megaships get this right—landing pads on both sides and no real upper or lower side. But then there is one other thing to consider:The only thing that bothers me about the design of the squadron carrier is something common to a lot of spaceships in science fiction - it's been designed with "up" and "down" in mind, even though there's no such thing as that in space. I'd love to see a design that looks like it was drawn by someone who realises that up and down in space is merely a matter of opinion.
Carriers and megaships should actually be built like skyscrapers, decks perpendicular to the main engine axis so that "down" is in the direction of exhaust. So the landing pads should also be arranged that way, several levels of orbital construction site like arrangements of landing pads. One part of the reason for this is that when the megaship is on the move, you get artificial gravity from acceleration; the other part is that (unlike stations) carriers/megaships don't actually orbit planets. They're basically statites, not satellites, relying on thrust to balance out the gravity of whatever they're orbiting. They should also always aim their engines (which are always on, BTW) towards the planet. The small ships we pilot are designed to fly in atmospheres and land on surfaces, so having a distinct up and down for them makes sense. But carriers never land or fly in an atmosphere.
It serves as a storage for physical assets in the Bank. One thing I don't really understand is what the purpose of the squadron carrier is. Perhaps I missed their point? Is it just a kind of primarily cosmetic thing?

Burn the bubble! Have a Galactica style exodus! It's been too quiet since the last Titan died.
And now squadron carriers are being built?
Uhhh, something tells me there is a need on the horizon for such a carrier!
Seriously, what is the point of a squadron? To fight stuff in a group effort because you will need a whole group of fighters to deal with what is coming!

I'm seriously getting unsettled by some of your postsBurn the bubble! Have a Galactica style exodus!
Hi
I'm seriously getting unsettled by some of your posts....

I think this has to do with the planet itself orbiting its star. Imagine a square with corners marked A, B, C, D on a flat sheet of paper orbiting around point X in the middle of the paper, but not rotating around its own center point—for a quarter of the orbit its corner A that's closest to point X, then it's corner B and so on.I think Fleet Carriers (and other megaships) are more like lagites than statites, because they do revolve around the bodies they are associated with, although I think at a slower rate than they would be if they were truly orbiting. For example, my FC has been parked around the same planet for the last few months, and it has definitely moved from the night side to the day side and so on.
Give me ability to upload my own logo, then I'm interested.
Yes.Ok but wait. Whats the Vanguard carrier supposed to be? A colonization solution? A battle carrier? Or mobile base station for factions, wings and squads?
