New kind of TV I guess.

my theory is that it sort of compensates for the lack of actual direct relationships as we submerge in the online world. technically it's not very different to pornography so it doesn't surprise me much that it works. people just love to watch other people doing things. the activities can vary a lot in taste and style, but it's still narcissists vs voyeurs 😂

Well, there's a lot to unpack in this thread. I'm not gonna comment on everything but one thing I do wanna address is this:

You guys stream, right? by doing that you're exposing yourselves to the audience, and the audience is just that varied. i'm sure you're not shy of receiving upvotes, mentions, shares, likes or even donations. might as well cope with some criticism (merited or not) that comes along. dunno, make up your mind?

You're definitely right about a varied audience, and having some truly lovely comments. I feel pretty damn blessed and honestly humbled that people make it possible for me to do this as a job. As for your comment about criticism - I'm absolutely open to criticism! Constructive criticism makes me better at my job and I genuinely welcome it. There's a variety of merited and unmerited and I'm not disputing or addressing those comments either... However...

Criticism and hate are different things. Criticism and personal boundary crossing are different things. I've not (I cannot speak for anyone else in this thread) been challenging or disputing criticism, just needless line crossing and unnecessary hateful or mean comments. in terms of my views on the posts here, while it warms my heart that people have stuck up for my genuineness, no-one is speaking on behalf of me except me, and notice I haven't weighed in on many specific things here. Mostly I've just commented about being a human being behind the screen.

Streaming is my job, and sure, it's on the internet, but that doesn't mean I deserve to be on the recieving end of hate and personal boundary crossing at work, just the same as no-one else here deserves to be on the receiving end of hate at their work, and that's what I speak up against. Not criticism or (non hateful) opinions, because those are very different things. In response to those who have mentioned their comments were designed as jokes, honestly it's pretty hard to tell sometimes from text what's a joke and what's not. And just cause it's a 'joke', doesn't mean it's exempt from the "don't be a jerk" thing.

Not everyone likes my content and that's totally fine, like you say, audience is varied! I think the thing I don't really understand is why people feel the need to cross a line because they dislike something, just save the mental energy and move on, you know? Theres something out there for everyone, one of the joys of the internet!

Maybe everyone here can just call it a day?
I'm sure you're all exhausted 😂

Well said Commander.

It amazes me how some act when hidden by the anonymity of the internet. Do they act like that in real life? Just because someone is in the public, does it give these people carte blanch to be abusive? Just because someone is dealing directly with the public does not mean they can be belittled. For those that think it does, do you abuse waitresses, nurses, policemen, the usher at the cinema, the bus driver? Personally I think most do it because they don't have the guts to do it in real life and they think it makes them feel superior.

Not everyone likes my content

if i get this right, you are your content. ;)

that was sort of my point. of course hate speech and sexism are crossing a line. nobody deserves that, and streamers are no different, just statistically more exposed than others. the fact is that it's mostly everywhere, and here it tends to get mopped up fast at least. so growing a skin should be advised, but maybe that's just me. now since you made this (otherwise absolutely legit, but maybe not too wise imo) challenge, we've had knights in shiny armor concluding this whole community is toxic, and a few pages more of this. so, if you wanted attention ... 😂 not being snarky, just to show how it can get messy.

otoh, since it has been mopped up, now i cannot really judge. just that it was enough to trigger moderation, and moderators can have bad days too ... the point is, i do not desire such behavior on you nor anyone, but if this is what to do you it's in your best interest to manage it efficiently. sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.

Maybe everyone here can just call it a day?

The internet is a great thing but it also brings out the worst in some, death threads towards devs etc. or insult others just because they can unpunished.
As to why people do that? I haven't got a clue, it just shows one's incredible lack of decency or moral imho, it's a sign of utter weakness.
I try to react on the forums as much as I would in real live, oftentimes it's best not to react at all.
I'm 53 years old, retired, self sufficient, had a good career have a lovely wife and two fantastic kids, I don't feel the need to prove myself to anyone.
And if someone tries to insult me or whatever, I just ignore that person, I don't need them and I'm definitely not gonna feed them.

I find a certain type of person will say the damnedest thing to complete strangers online. The internet gave them the buffer of dissociation and never having to see the actual affect their words have on those they converse with.
Face to face exchanges can have more singular consequences and therefore restrain the base impulse.

Seeing as 3% of men and 1.5% of women are sociopaths, it's really no surprise that we come across them online. IRL these predators wear a mask to conceal the monster underneath, online they are anonymous so they don't have to wear their masks. So we get a good look at the monster under the mask in forums like this.

Only comment for those who believe that anonymity in the network can not be discovered ........ how many idiots we have sent before the judge, believing that when using the Deeb Weeb, TOR, false names are not identified .. The same can happen to those who insult or transgress.
Better talk about how happy you see it at the time of the video that encouraged me to continue with Elite

ORiginal

Oh we got plenty of trolls in this here forum! Dangerous Discussions is notorious for its trolling, as this thread and another recent thread illustrate all too well. Trolls love to get into a thread where positive things are being said and done, and attempt to ruin it with their incorrect and negative comments. They just can't help themselves.

But it's not just DD, all online forums are like that because the anonymity of the participants allows trolls to behave in a toxic manner. I remember watching a YouTube video of a famous dentist doing a direct resin bridge. The guy invented a way of permanently replacing a missing front tooth quickly and inexpensively, and was sharing his knowledge with others. Predictably and sadly, many of the comments underneath were badly written, ignorant, stupid and horrible.

So if you decide to share anything positive with others online, be prepared for the trolls, they are ready and waiting to rain all over your parade!

That's a good question.

I'm not sure what kind of abuse some of people are talking about.
I understand there were some moderated posts, but this seems to be about opinions whether she was faking emotions or not.

You see, even she calls it her job. Then it's showbusiness. Entertainment.
The problem with that kind of stream is that she is the person providing entertainment, by talking, making emotional gestures, basically communicating with her audience. She is the content some of the people watch that stuff for.
And it's a show. So she's a show. She's made the show about her being there.
And people can have opinions about a show. Not necesserily constructive criticism. That's how it is.

You might not say negative things about a show to a person performing to his/her face without being asked for opinion first. Even then some people might not want to be too honest to not upset another person.

But here we have discussion forum. A place to exchange opinions. What would you expect here? People to say only nice, positive things and keep quiet about what they didn't like?

There's, of course, all kinds of things people shouldn't say, even on the discussion forum - or trolls that just enjoy causing a commotion - but I'm not sure if we have something like this here.

We didn't see the moderated posts, but they must have been pretty bad for the mods to have removed them. Thank you mods! 👍

Let's define what is a troll..
For me it's someone who come in a forum and criticize a content without reasons with the only intent to create acid and offensive discussions.
I don't see this happening here.
Here I see instead people with lots of critics towards a game and a development team with reasons that can be agreed or not.
I haven't seen insults to people (I don't know what kind of posts have been moderated on this thread so I'm not referring to those) but in general in this forum I see people with different opinions that hardly accept who thinks differently. So like in real life actually (unless someone here lives in a parallel and pacific world where everyone is happy and nice).

I read those posts before they were moderated. Probably made in jest but beyond good taste and a couple were downright creepy, so moderating them was the right thing to do.

Fwiw, I pretty much share the views Florensus posted above.

Also generally speaking, I find this forum one of the best moderated and well mannered ones out there (I'm a regular on one other forum and the tone there would result in an instant permaban here).

I frankly don't see where anyone got attacked or harassed in this thread (beyond those moderated posts ofc) . At a stretch the only poster I thought posted in an unnecessarily personal manner was in defence of the OP.

Because it hurts you that the girl in the video is enjoying the Elite ....?
Porque te hace daño que la joven del video este disfrutando del Elite....?
