If you played the original in the 80's and the Sequels later like it I did. It was a ground breaking game, none of us had experienced 3D outside of the Star Wars arcade machine. Being able to have 3D on your home computer when the other games you were playing were platformers like Chuckie egg, Repton or simple 2d airplane shooters like Bandits at 3'oclock. For a young 80's brain that was ground breaking. But not today. The Frontier games were amazing too, even by todays standing, but the combat was incredibly tedious. With newtonian physics that meant you had to try dogfighting in the equivalent of supercruise where you basically jousted with your opponent. You could try fighting on planets but only if you could deal with a sub 10 FPS slideshow.
ED doesn't cover all the ground of combined games. A lot of cool stuff is missing. But we also get a lot more cool stuff and proper actually fun combat like the very first game. I wish it was further along, actually just started playing again in Jan after taking a break since 2015.
If you have played it for 500+ hours like I had through premium beta to power play, then your going to get bored. It's hard to do anything for hundreds of hours without it becoming mundane. Even the most fun jobs like my 20 years in the game industry get tedious after a while. Switch off and come back later.
Like I mentioned, I stopped playing soon after powerplay. Stepped into an ASP Scout to land on a rock and didn't feel there was much new to do. Came back 2 years later and was blown away when I jumped in my ship last month. The game seemed new and fresh and I felt like a newbie all over again. Sometimes you need to take a break and come back months or in my case years later to really see the huge amount of progress.
My biggest beef with the game was crime and punishment. Something we were told as beta testers would be sorted out for release. Funny that after all these years it's finally happening. I think that alone will help make the game more immersive with a more realistic tangible universe and feel more like the old games. Love the game, hope it eventually comes close to what was promised.
