Elite is not Doomed

And it seems to be an expansion I'd want.

Based on what? We don't know squat about what's gonna be in the 2020 update since Fdev is only excited but doesn't say why.
Your view or knowledge might be different but my expectations are low, very low, as far as I can imagine it'll just be another feature with an oooh and aaah timespan of a couple weeks and then it ends, just like the rest of the half developed features.
Oh and don't forgett the new added range of bugs.

there's a sucker born every minute. for every rage quit there's 2 noobs that haven't been burned yet.

Well, I'm not so sure about it. It might be the case, but apart from various sales, do you ever see any promotion done for the game? Is there really such a steady influx of new players? With all the competition Elite has to face today?

Huh! Some say there is no such thing as competition for Elite!

All im saying is: I wish one could have an intelligent conversation about the debatable development progress of Elite without someone snapping back "lol, what about Star Citizen??".

I personally dont give a damn about SC. I just like to look at Elite against the background of 2019 gaming industry.

I don't even compare with the 2019 gaming industry. I just care about whether i enjoy it. I still enjoy (and have installed) games from 20 or more years ago.

Is ED still enjoyable for me? Yes.

Am i hopeful for the 2020 update? Sure, but i will try and and avoid the hype so as to avoid dissapointment if its a bit pants.

Does it bother me that for another year and a half we are not getting any significant updats? Not that much. I would like more, and sooner, and bigger, and better, etc, but it doesn't alter my enjoyment of the game as it is.

The supposed 'leak' is 4 for 4 on its predictions. Seems like Legs + Thargs + base building could be on the cards.

Could still be wrong or a long-form troll, but add in other circumstantial stuff like the apparent lift + console references in the latest build etc, and it doesn't look totally leftfield ;)

LOL, i can't believe you went there.

The only thing SC is raising in terms of expectations is the release date, which seems to get further and further into the future.

I said SC and NMS. Consider all the features that NMS has added. And yes, even if it's never released, SC has changed what people expect. You have fully rendered ships with interiors. You can see your cargo in your ship. And in MMS you can build bases. You have planets with alien life.

All I'm saying is that those games have changed what we expect from a space game. I think FDev have recognized that and that's why they're working hard to deliver something for 2020.

no. In fact, most "top xx VR games out now" lists don't include Elite...which they 100% should. It's like they're not even trying. As for competition, I don't think Elite has any yet. There are games that one might buy instead, but they're not the same...but if FDev is happy selling $3 mustache packs to an audience of a few thousand players....what I can do?

If the rumors are right and the next big thing is legs and bases, game's already dead.

Yes, there have always been doomsayers. But in the few years I've been hanging out here (lurking at first, and then as a player and active poster) I don't remember a period this dark.
It seems rather better now than it was in the lead up to the 3.3 release (after 3.2, before any of the contents of 3.3 were revealed)

After the 2.3 release was pretty bad - I think that's the one you're referring to, with Zac's first announcement of (what would become) Beyond.

Post-Engineers 2.1 was pretty bad for people actually quitting - quietly, no fuss, just leaving and not even asking if anyone wanted their stuff. Nothing as bad as that I've seen since - people talk about quitting, but they don't actually do it as much.

For that matter, it seems less doomy now here than it was before the 3.4 release.

Maybe we're just reading different threads?

Here you have five recent top VR games ranking pages I have found just by simple google search. There are many more from where those came from but I hope you get the gist. All of the them feature Elite in the top 10 or close. Not bad for a game that has been out there for almost 5 years.

As for the game death... I believe Elite was certified dead when the first alpha rolled out back in 2013. Any time now I presume, surely next year.
