Fiction Elite : Reclamation

If its a mere % as good as the Tales from the frontier it will be EPIC... Seriously these audio books are AMAZING....

I have a good few audio books on my ipod, and these are the ones that get my hear pumping.

I can not wait to hear Drews!

Commanders.

We will be undertaking a trip from Lave to the Prism system. Join us at Lave, or enroute, or at the Prism system itself. I will be entertaining you enroute with exclusive previews of the audiobook! See you at 18:00 GMT!

Cheers,

Drew.

Just got finished with the audio book version last night .... superb effort ... well realised and a never slowing story ... and Toby Longworth did a tremendous effort with the wide spectrum of voice performances for all the different characters.

Highly recommend the audiobook versions of all these as the music and official SFX just make the E:D universe come alive ... although it makes me wish we had events like this to play too

This particular book is a more character driven on-world story than some of the others but it includes and therefore provides a great insight into the Federation / Empire political framework so i found it great for deepening the game experience for me too

Well done!

Thanks for the feedback there, much appreciated. I did aim to give players a bit of Federation and Imperial background flavour, so good to know you consider that something that ER gave you.

The audiobook is very impressive indeed. Toby Longworth is a one man show!

Cheers,

Drew.

Chris Jarvis and Toby Longworth have done an excellent job with the bits I've managed to listen to... but has anyone else had any problems extracting the MP3s from the RARs? Windows 8 doesn't come with anything to deal with RARs and the first unpacker I installed completely failed to deal with the file.

I did eventually manage to find an unpacker on an old computer but it mangled the end of the MP3. I don't know if the old version the unpacker couldn't handle some change to the format of the compressed file, and corrupted the MP3 as it extracted it. It might be that the RAR itself was corrupted. I've got plenty of permutations to keep trying. I was just wondering if I was the only person having this problem.

The reason for using rars is that if they download slightly corrupt, they won't extract. SO you can not get a partial mp3 file... that said if you use a repair rar program it will give you a distorted mp3 from a corrupt rar.

SO essentially as Allen stated, the best version is winrar by rarlabs (PLEASE make sure you get it from rarlabs), and it is free to use and awesome.

IF the rar has errors, DELETE IT, then go back to FBP Store and re-download.

The deletion will save a lot of problems... trust me.. Im a kow!

I didn't buy the Audio Book but I have the paperback version, it was a great read and I thoroughly enjoyed it:)

Regards

Some of these originally download corrupt for me as well. I ended up sending a note to Dan Grubb via the Kickstarter site and he said he would reset the downloads for me. On my next attempt they did all download OK and were unpacked successfully - in my case using open source 7zip.

Elite: Reclamation - Text & Audio versions

I read Elite: Reclamation a few weeks ago and found it an excellent and compelling read, good work Drew. Since then the audio book version arrived and I have to say even though I recently read it, I thoroughly enjoyed the re-telling by Toby Longworth and Chris Jarvis. This is much, much more than an audio book, being more like a radio play with music and sound effects.

I highly recommend these, very well done to all involved.

I finished the Audiobook yesterday after buying it from the Fantastic Books website (yes with real money, not as a backer).

The first thing I have to say is the production quality (Radio Theatre Workshop) and performance by Toby Longworth are astounding. I hate to come across like some kind of fanboy, but I'm often critical of books and will return them if I'm not satisfied. I get through at least two, sometimes three a month from Audible and this production is in the same league as the official Star Wars Audiobooks, but with the refreshing stance on a new world/canon that E : D brings.

It strangely leaves me a bit sad that there are a massive number of people who would otherwise find the book really rewarding to get into but will never have heard about it.

On the technical side; I mainly use a Mac day to day and found the download and iTunes integration a bit tedious. After individually downloading chapter sets I had to use an Unarchiver then collate the chapters into a single file and import them. After that I had a hell of a time attempting to get iTunes to recognise the files as an Audiobook and found out that iTunes Match needs to be disabled before I could re-categorise the files as an Audiobook. These steps are natural for PC gamer types who are used to jumping through tech hoops, but the average Joe would just become frustrated.

I realise the might and technical resources of Amazon, but the process through Audible is transparent and device wide.

My hope is that somehow Fantastic Books can do a deal to get the book on Audible, and when that happens Drew, Chris Jarvis and Toby* will get the recognition fame and Elite ratings that they deserve. Then we can have a more constant source of great books from the canon with the production values that this book has set as a benchmark.

*Toby is already kind of Famous, isn't he?

Firstly I am so glad you went to all the hassle to work it out, secondly... could you not just import them as mp3's into your itunes library as is.
I Totally understand how its often nice to have one big file, but I actually quite like being able to stop and carry on from the next chapter... horses for course..
I go for a walk a few nights a week and Tales from the Frontier keep me smiling in driving rain :D

The down side to amazon, audible etc is the % cost to sell on there, it leaves a pittance. So if you want to support the creators of the works to the best degree I would go directly to the FBP Store, I know its not as straight forward, but it will ensure the maximum royalty being paid to the authors, producers and publishers, without a huge chunk being eaten by 3rd party sites.

That was all I wanted to say about it.

Support Fantastic books by buying directly where ever possible.

Hi Folks,

No news on an official sequel to my official Elite book as yet, but progress on my current work continues...

In fact, I've just finished the first draft of the first book in my upcoming hard SF Saga. It's called 'Shadeward: Emanation'.

Some of you may recall my 'fireside chats' that I filmed during the production of Elite: Reclamation. Here I am once again, talking about my new novel.

Hope you enjoy.

Stonkingly good book sir! (Audio).

Journeys to and from work took longer than usual but seemed much shorter and it appears to started itself from the beginning again....shame huh? ;)
