Elite social get togethers - Elite Community Meet (Reading) and Portland, Oregon!

elite-meet-header.png

For fans of Elite Dangerous and gaming, the Elite Community Meet 2018 is heading to Reading on the 14th April.

Run by the community (not for profit) and raising funds for SpecialEffect and Hearing Dogs, this is its 3rd year with the current team. Last year 138 gamers descended on Bristol for a day of gaming, VR, socialising and fun, the year before 90 came to Glasgow. 42 places already gone at this year's one!

We had HTC Vive and Oculus Rift to try, space to bring a PC and get down to some games, board games, a charity raffle and a live stage performance from Hutton Orbital Radio and the Pixel Bandits. There was an Artemis bridge simulator for crews to try their hand at and even a few of the cast of Echoes from the Hold and the voice packs. OK, it was Cecil. HCS Voice Packs are sending one of their team to join in for the day.

This year we are adding in an ED:RPG session from Spidermind games and much more. This is a day dedicated to DOING gaming and meeting fellow commanders.

Details available at http://elitemeet.info

Breaking Bonus News: Sunday 15th we are holding a Hutton Pizzameet for lunch at the Pizza Express in Reading where the manager and head chef will be attempting to teach 50+people how to properly toss pizzas. When you book, put the word PIZZA! in the notes box and we'll add you to the list. That's a "pay on the day" thing, but we have a special discount from the manager.

Triple breaking news: We also have a little social gathering in Portland, Oregon on the 17th March if any American commanders want to come and meet fellow pilots.

ECM!!!! Woohooo!!!!!

Can't wait for this. I've only ever managed to get to 3 other Elite events and never to this one. This is going to be the best start to my tour of Britain for Elite themed get togethers...plus it's run by the truckers and what could be better than hanging around with the most ludicrously crazy people in the galaxy!!!!

We have confirmed a guest appearance from CMDR Wotherspoon - the voice of the Galnet News Digest (he reads it so you don't have to)! https://player.fm/series/galnet-news-digest

Also - we've had a volunteer suggest that he could Organise a mini-meet in North Carolina - if anyone's interested, let me know and we'll see whether it's worth doing!

Yes - we also did one in Australia - once again, if enough are interested, we can see if we can do a repeat one.

Last year, I managed to do an Old Saw's Almanack thing last year by correctly predicting Salome's demise at the hands of Harry Potter. Admittedly, it wasn't much of a long shot. Wonder if I can do the same again this year?

Went to my first ECM last year - brilliant time and loads of notable memories from then.

I'm just wondering if Clive is going to make an appearance and whether his social standing has improved since Bristol

I've been to all the Elitemeets so far, including the two before Glasgow in Manchester (Nov 13) and Birmingham (Apr? 15) and they have all been fantastic events. My husband (Wrongway) and I went to the Manchester one not knowing what to expect and were pleasantly surprised to find everyone so friendly and welcoming. Every one since has been bigger and better, and a great deal of fun!

It's great to put faces to names and many have become fairly close friends over the years. I'm really looking forward to seeing them all again, as well as making some new friends.

If you've never been to any Elite events like this, do come along to the Elite Community Meet - you won't regret it! :D

MORE CONTENT! - Looks like we have not one, but TWO retro gaming rigs at the moment with an Amiga or two coming down loaded up with all the games you remember from back in the day...

I would love to be there this year as it was a really great day out last time but alas the date clashes with plans made a while back. I know it will all go well and everyone will have a blast, if you've not been to one of these yet... What are you waiting for, book your tickets right now!

EDIT:

<-- As you can see, a certain someone has been up to their usual tricks... If he's allowed to attend the Elite meet please get him drunk and film the results... I'll pay good money for footage that can be used for blackmail :D

Hi Vingtetun,

good call. I've just booked my ticket and room (Fri and Sat nite). I'm only down the road in Swindon so no excuses for not paying a visit and bringing a 'bit more content' along.

I'm the CMDR that's been building the Motion Simulator chair for ED over the last year and regularly upload progress on the VR section of this forum.

I was looking at bringing my v4 3DOF motion chair to this elitemeet to demo, use in actual ED gameplay and for folks to try out for themselves. My rig also has VR so its a great combo. I would need an area 7ft x 7ft though and a hand to transport it into the venue. If this is a problem - no worries, I do have a smaller desktop 6DOF platform, the v5 prototype that I can demo with ED and fits on a tabletop (I'll likely bring this anyway).

I do need to know if you (the organisers) will allow me to bring the v4 though so I can arrange the transport. I'm sure other commanders will be 'interested' in this tech.
