Hey guys,
this is supposed to be a summarized thread which I can update with informations, status reports or just to use it as a reference if someone wants to know more about this series. I'm also glad to answer all kinds of questions about this documentary here!

Description
It's called "Elite: Strange Worlds". An adventure series in a documentary kind of style.

"Two friends are starting an expedition with the goal to visiting the most beautiful places in our galaxy. They call them "Strange Worlds."
Their journey will lead them right across the Milky Way. Starting from Sol, going to Jaques Station, even further out to the galactic core, up to Beagle Point and then taking the long way back to Sol again."

What's special about this series is that the focus not only lies in showing beautiful scenery, but also taking the viewers on an adventure which includes storytelling, character progression - even emotional journeys. Every episode got its own script with different dialogues, happenings, funny moments, and so on. The whole journey will be written in a five act dramatic structure - which means there will be much variety in how the story will unfold after time. Plot twists, turning points, critical moments. Drama.
In the End, not those "Strange Worlds" will be the highlight, but the journey itself - altough visiting those POI's is always the foundation of every episode.

The whole series will be in-roleplay only. No out-of-game references except sources. The series will respond to events that happend to another CMDR or a player group and tell those stories while visiting these exact places. (Example: The story of Planet Wilson or the Distant Worlds Expedition)

Because the lore in Elite is also evolving, the whole story will adapt to it. Things might happen ingame that are not planned, yet. If someone discoveres something spectacular, we might take a detour and visit it.

The goal is to really give the viewer the impression of a breathing universe.

The Protagonists
Skoomer/David: A guy who is fascinated about space but very homebound. He decided to start this journey anyway in hope to experience the adventure of his lifetime.
Zech Straizo: A good friend of David who is accompanying him on this journey. He's the adventurous type of guy and loves to take risks.


General Informations

  • Each Episode is aimed to be around 10 minutes long. +/- 3min.
  • New episodes will get released at the first and the third friday of each month.
  • There are 61 points of interest to visit. We will probably encounter several more on our way.
  • Each episode will cover at least one POI, if not more.
  • It's estimated that there will be over 35 Episodes in the end.
  • The whole trip and procution will most likely take about a year to complete. At least thats the plan. This will depend on our RL, ingame issues or other things.
  • Both of the protagonist (Zach and I) have voice-acting experience and very good microphones. Altough I have to admit that I'm native german so pronouncing english isn't exactly my speciality. But I'm sure I'll get used to it. Its a nice practise, overall!


Background / About
I always loved to make videos. I began as a child, running around with a camcorder and filming some nonsense. Someday this evolved into having a Youtube Channel where I uploaded typical lets plays. (Starting with Minecraft *cough*)
Someday I figured that I could use those game engines to make movies in them. So I started doing this and even had some success doing so. This was in the year 2011/2012.
This hobby quickly became more present in my reallife because I managed to get an apprentienceship as a cutter in a film and tv-production firm here in germany. Since then I'm able to do my hobby as a profession.
I actually did a lot of private film projects from there on, especially in video games. Speaking of GTA V, Minecraft, Space Engineers. Those are all wonderful games/engines to actually film in.
Now that Frontier released the new camera suite with 2.3 I'm more than in love with this new tool and doing my best to use all my knowledge of film making to make this series something special.
I met Zech about two years ago when I looked for an english voice actor on reddit for an Eve Online short-film. Since then we're in contact and he's always ready to help out whereever he can.

I added status reports for upcoming episodes on this thread now. Wanted to add more transparancy and give you an insight on how far I am with finishing those and when you can expect a release.

Just watched the first episode. Great work! Looking forward for others episodes.

Have you already written everything or are you going to improvise once at locations?

Is the narrator going to come back on each episodes? Maybe add a little breakown of the situation at the beggining of the episodes with his voice?

It depends. If I have enough information about that place, I write the script before the actual visit. When I have no information I'm visiting it first, recording the most important shots, writing the script and if needed record missing shots afterwards. But most things will be scripted in the end. Although there were already situations that weren't in the script but happend while recording so I rewrote a couple of lines.
I asked ObsidianAnt for the narrator role to make the end of the first episode something really special. But its not planned to feature him more often, altough I would really like that.

Fantastic, really nice work. I liked the voice over at the end by James Earl Jones Obsidian Ant.

I envy the ability to commit to something like this, should be a great trip.

Yeah hope he continues to work with you since he really seems to appreciate your work, and the narrator voice over really add some production value.

I really like the way you used and edited music for characterization purpose, but I just felt it was lacking a few shots of your travel buddy (Zack), I don't remember seeing his face ( but peraphs I didn't pay enough attention...).

Good luck on your trip commanders. I'll be watching :)

You're absolutely right on this one. The problem was with the way the script was written. Originally, when I had the idea to this series, I planned to do the journey all by myself but only realised later that a second person would give this whole series far more depth.
Due to this, the first script was more focused on my part which I now realise was a little mistake and I should have shown Zech's face at least once. But the second episode will feature Zech a little more and although there will be no in-ship picture of him, I think you'll see his character a little better.

Ok I think you took the right decision, your videos are going to be way better with another character on your side, could be use to give information through conversation, to have some comic relief etc...
And it also allow you to have some drama, like both character being separated, for example : One of the character is out of fuel, they are not far from colonia so the other one is sent there to find help, then don't come back, then a fuel rat (sent by your firend) come in to save the day, and you could have some colonia trip looking for your friend. Then you find him at Jacques and he tells you how he had to repair his ship after he got hyperdicted and you could have some flashback scene with a thargoid...

I probably gone too far ( anyway that was just my 2cents :p)

I think you should contact frontier on twitter I'm sure they'll be ok to paste a link of your videos there.

I can't say that I've wacthed very many ED fan videos, but this is by far the best I've seen and, I suspect, the best I will see.

Excellent production value, and I love that there aren't really any noticeable editing or effects to the acutal footage, outside of transitions.

Nice touch with OA at the end. Hopefully he will continue to provide support for the introducing and closing out the episodes.

If you are truly going to keep this up through the long haul, I would strongly advocate for this thread to be sticky-fied, so the FP could be updated with new episodes.

Also, it would be great if you could post the bookmark details that apply to each episode for those who want to follow along at home and as well as for posterity's sake.
