Empire Rank Gains Reducing Fed Ranks?

Has 1.3 changed ranks somehow so that gaining a rank for one loses you a rank in the other?

I just handed in an mission to get an Empire Navy rank and went from Viscount to Count - at the same time my Federation rank was dropped from Post Commander to Lt. Commander.

I can't find anything about this in the 1.3 patch notes.

I've had similar. I gained rank with the Empire (Lord to Baron) and went from Post Commander to Warrant Officer with the Feds.

I've put a ticket in about it so would be good if anyone else affected did the same.

Aaaargh! It gets worse.

To check what's going on I picked up a Fed Navy Quest to obtain 38 Consumer Tech. Often these need to be stolen for the quests but I checked and double checked and the quest said nothing about the goods having to be stolen. So I take the quest and guess what - the goods need to be stolen. Absolutely nothing mentioned about this in the quest text. How on earth do you go about finding 38 tonnes of stolen Consumer Tech, that's near impossible in 4hrs from piracy?

I wish this is true. Would increase the RP value.

I agree but that's not how the game currently works.

Me too. It's always seemed wrong to be able to be allied to all factions at the same time.

Yep. I dont mind one changing and the penalty is the "work for new rank". But being able to be an empire King and a federation Admiral at the same time is just wrong and implies you are a spy.

We just need some kind of alliance ranking too.

Could be possible if you have a mate that is willing to drop you some Consumer tech. Inconvenient, but possible.

Probably the easiest way:
1) find a nearby friend with a cargo hold at least 38 tonnes.
2) buy 38 tonnes of Gold/Palladium/something expensive
3) your friend buys 38 tonnes of Consumer Tech
4) meet up, swap cargoes. Make sure your friend marks the tech as stolen when dumping it.
You now have 38 tonnes of "stolen" Consumer Tech, and your friend has been compensated for their time.

If you don't have any friends, or they're all offline or too far away ... it might actually be easier to make some friends than it is to hunt down that many Type-9s in the hope of getting lucky.

I wouldn't mind if this was put in place; one faction ranking at a time, as this is how I've been playing since day 1.
But to put it in place without commenting on the release notes, signals that it's probably a bug.

I really hope this is the case I can't fathom why two opposite forces would allow military association with someone who is already engaged with the opponent... That's like saying Mr. Such and So is both a General in the U.S. Army AND a general in the Red Army... wait what?

I posted a bug where both ranks went up, so if they fixed that so when one goes up the other goes down , that's a good thing...

I could never see the logic of being ranked in two competing systems.

Technically, from a gameplay POV, since at best, the factions do not speak to each other, I could see how pilots would be able to rank up for both sides, as information WRT their respective navies would not be released to each other.

It should only be the case if the player base has been informed of the change, otherwise it's a bug.

I agree that it shouldn't be like it is now but FD have had it this way since the start, no matter how crazy it is.

Anyhow, I only wanted the Baron rank to buy the Clipper. I don't 'support' any Super Power/individual or faction in the game so I'm ok with having
no ranks... provided I've bought all the shiny I want. :D

So just curious. Whats the current working mechanism? Bug or not. Do one rank go down when the other go up? Is this what everyone that got ranks in both experience?

Rank progression is currently bugged and FD are aware there are issues.

Did five empire missions, all explicitely stating to take me from Earl to Marquis, only the fifth one worked. Meanwhile, I got fed navy midshipman although I have never done a single fed navy mission ever.

OK so the latest patch 1.3.02 has this note:

- Fix for randomly losing rank

And the previous patch 1.3.01 has this note:

- For those Commanders affected by the problems with military ranks, their Federation and Empire progression has been restored to the state just before the release of 1.3

Well my ranks did not get reset to what they were before 1.3 - they stayed the same as in my first post with Fed incorrectly Lt Commander and Empire at Count.

I just tried another mission and again something weird happened.

I handing in a Fed mission to get my Fed Rank back up to Post Commander - this happened but at the same time my Empire rank also increased to Earl.

I'm pretty sure that this still isn't working correctly.

This should be the norm, can only be allied with one faction at a time, if you are not pledged to any power then you can be friendly with all but Allied with one, they have spies you know ;). But if you are pledged to a power then only Allied to that faction and neutral or hostile to opposing powers. This multi allied deal doesn't fit into the current schema, until they introduce covert/double agent stuff.

Has there been any word on resetting ranks gained recently? I'm reticent to play having lost 12+ hours gameplay and 4 legitimate rank rises.
