Your Feature Request / Idea
Hi! I am posting under gameplay because I believe this basic building deeply influences the entire gameplay of dino - visitor interaction and it could be really change the experience for the better.
Fences are currently all the same: an Electrified concrete wall is just a bunch of seconds away from destruction by gallimimus than the basic light steel fence.
It's a bit silly, the stronger fences than the basic one should only be destroyed by the largest dino, and in some cases, like the electrified, dissuade the dino from attacking it. (not considering that even the basic ones are still way too weak for the smallest dino they should be more resistent overall)
In short:
- Small dinosaurs should be able to break only the lightest fences
- Starting from the heavy steel only medium to large dinos could break through, medium having some hard time to break it. Even better if you can stress the characteristics of different dino how "well" they can break through fences: maybe a triceratops or a carnivore could be way more efficient than an edmontosaurus in breaking a steel fence, weight and constitution of a dinousar should play a role in how much they can damage it.
- Intelligent and agile dino like raptors should be able to escape fences they can't break by jumping or climbing them: now you got some sense to enclose with electrified fences.
- Electrified fences should hurt and dissuade even the most angry dino from breaking through, even if it's totally mad (or unless it takes a really long time in damaging, retreating, healing and coming back to the same spot instead trying for weakspots). That woud give new relevance to mantain power to enclosures, as they might probe from time to time for weakspots and if they find there is an outage... is payback time!
I know that a reason why they are so weak is to avoid abuse by creating micro enclosures but this can be solved easily:
- Welfare penalty for abused enclosed dino could be increased drastically: it might even cause sabotages from animalist groups or staff that will create troubles, and the worst the welfare the more likely you get those.
- Abused dino will develop PTSD after too long time at total discomfort, chaning their behavior forever and turning them aggressive to other dinos or girospheres, aphatetic, prone to sickness, permanently panicked (eating less), or competely crazy and on rampage (hurting visitors and themselves, ignoring shocks from electrified fences until they die or escape causing mayhem). You could be forced either to sell the dino or you might create a new building for a dino shrink to cure abused dinos. If done correctly could become great fun.
- Smart dinos could use coverage and ambush staff to escape from gates, same goes for dinos with zero comfort.
- Even electric fences won't be 100% secure: they would suck energy and will be very vulnerable to storms and sabotages. Still they should collapse if attacked too much by a crazy dino even if the power is on. A breached operational energy fence could even have a chance to cause outages or fry some power station as a backlash (you have a lot of options to create gameplay situations here)
Last but not least, including open enclosures like small, medium and large concrete moats could add a lot:
- small moats would work for small or some medium dinos and could be a good idea to add to a normal fences to keep the distance between dilo spit through a fence and guests (I know they don't do it yet, but that would be good
), however it would be jumped by agile dinos like raptors and easy to pass for large to medium dinosaurs.
- Medium moats would be good to keep a T-rex or large bipedal carnivores at bay or slow them down a lot, but still long jumps could pass them as well as four limbed carnivores like spino or Indomitus that could climb and very large herbivores
- Large moats would be good to block the largest herbivores but take a lot of space (a huge problem in the game) and have enough room for moderately large dinos to enter and slowly climb.
Not adding too much complexity but it would be very beneficial without the need to create more models (except for moats and few animations).
In the end please, let us add the Jurassic Park door to the enclosures, it is on the arrival point only but it would be great to have park entrace doors that can be built over the roads, this way you could go for isolated enclosures or recreate a Jurassic Park safari path with a network of different enclosures.
I think it's enough for my first post, but I love the game and see much potential to become great with some improvement.
