Most engineering at the moment is geared towards combat. I worked on Bill Turner in the hope that I'd have a boost to my limpets or mining - sadly, not.
From a mining/trading perspective, here are a few changes I'd love to see.
1) Limpet Engineering - Choices between greater range, faster collection, longer life
2) Refinery - Choices between a 2nd hopper, extra bins, more efficient refining
3) Cargo - Choices between great cargo space, decreased mass, undetectable cargo (for smuggling purposes, or just hiding them from view of manifest scans)
4) SRV - Choices between tougher hulls, extra cargo carrying capacity, greater fuel/ammo capacity
I love the engineers - and they definitely feel like they can elevate endgame stuff. They are a terrific start, but like I say, a bit of diversity would be better. Combat isn't for everyone, and the whole ethos of Elite, for me, is the open choices a player can make about how they play the game.
