General Engineers MUST get money for their work.

Why isn't there a noticeable difference in engineering mats required for 1A module vs an 8A module?

I don't know if the engineering mats are for actually performing the upgrade or as a form of payment. Regardless I would think the cost, effort, and materials necessary would increase dramatically with the size of module.

Maybe they are living off income from patents.

That's pretty much all but stated already in-game, they have all made their fortune before meeting us and have no real need of our money. When you are literally the best in the galaxy, you can basically name your price; if a faction tracks them down and asks them to modify some of their spec ops ships, they can literally say "that'll be 10 billion credits per ship" and the faction will pay. Whatever we can offer, factions that have literally several orders of magnitude more buying power than us can offer enough to make us redundant.

It's also why they want us to do various services or feats before meeting them, they are more interested in us at a personal level rather than seeing us as just another business transaction. Lei Cheung hangs out with us because we are fellow traders, the Dweller is happy to help his fellow criminal scum out, Selene enjoys the company of fellow miners etc.

Kinda like the forums, only more so...

Money will never be enough. Because they're tool for everything.

Oh, I have a good friend(for years, not for 25 units of something) who lead at car repair shop but I pay anyway(even with a discount) for materials and for work of OTHER people in the team.
Do you think engineer live on station alone? Nobody's here? No. Hundreds and thousands of people who want something to eat, somewhere to sleep and rest, have someone as a family. Remember about them.

Why players whining about "nowhere to spend money", but when we come with suggestion about things which have sense - thread immediately become a paper roll full of justifications "why that cannot be". Smh.

Some of the players whining about nowhere to spend money are victims of following get rich quick schemes not realising that in the game as in life money isn’t everything.

The engineering mats might be necessary for the upgrade, or maybe not. They might be the form of payment.

If you are going to extrapolate (ie: expand beyond what we know) saying there are other people on the engineering base with families etc. then you can't be assuming the engineering function is the only thing happening at these bases. Who knows what else is happening and why the base is located where it is. We only see what is relevant to us playing the game. There are lots of other things that would be happening, there are limitless reasons why things might be the way they are in the game.

Game != Life
And I didn't say money is everything. Money is important.

And anyway, all work should be paid, so upgrades too.

Wow, thats a really definte reply. I guess you know Prof Palin on a personal basis, and had dinner with him a couple times? If an engineer says they "require 4 wingnuts to perform the upgrade" I don't see how you can be certain that all 4 wingnuts are being used, or if they are being used at all.
