Enhancing the Event Sequencer: My Suggestions for a More Powerful Interface

Hello everyone!

Over the past few days, I've been trying out the new event sequencer quite a bit, and I must say I find it promising, but there are many areas for improvement! I got into it and came up with some suggestions that I tried to integrate into the interface. :)

1 element = 1 line

The first thing I find really unfortunate is having as many lines as events for a single element. I think it would be better to keep one line per element rather than per event, which would reduce the number of lines, especially since an element cannot have two simultaneous events (which the current interface allows, although it doesn't work in the game).

In the example below, in the current version, I would have had 64 lines, whereas in my suggestion, I only have 8.

On each line, we’d have on the always-visible left panel: the element type and its name (fire effect, water jet, speaker, sequence, etc.), color selection, an icon to locate it in-game, and a button to reorder elements (this is new and highly appreciated as well!). Then, on the right panel, which can be scrolled horizontally, there’s the timeline of events for that element.

The ability to mix events for a single element

With this new setup, we could add events to the selected element from all the available options. For example, for a rotating platform, you could choose a "Medium" event, then a "Fast" event, then an "Oscillation" event, etc.—you get the idea. Currently, we’re limited to just the single event selected on the element in-game, which really limits possibilities! Also, it would be great to freely choose the animation duration for all effects (right now, for instance, we can't adjust the rotation animation duration of a rotating platform).

Ability to start the sequence at a chosen time

Currently, we have to go back to the beginning each time the sequence is played, which is unfortunate because for long sequences where we want to test an effect combination at the 3-minute mark, we’re forced to wait! The icing on the cake would be the ability to move live within the timeline by shifting the time line, though I understand that might be quite complex to implement.

Display the total sequence duration and quickly navigate a long sequence

The idea here is to have not only the total time displayed but also a summary view of the timeline, with a highlighted area showing the part currently visible on screen. Dragging this highlighted area would allow quick navigation within the sequence. To avoid managing countless lines for each element, I think we could group events by colors, which are limited. This gives a quick overview of the scheduled events from start to finish.

Ability to add a reference track

Alright, it’s starting to feel like a Christmas wish list, but it would be really cool to add a reference music track for a visual sound display, allowing events to be synchronized to the tempo or key moments in the music. This seems essential later on for things like fireworks synchronization.

Ability to visualize the ride sequence

When working on an attraction’s trigger sequence, it would be great to display the ride sequences on the timeline to synchronize events with it. This would allow adding all kinds of effects across the entire ride duration, taking different stages into account (rotation in one direction, then the other, etc.).

Multi-selection and Move

Finally, the ability to select multiple events with a selection box and move them all at once on the timeline!

I think that covers all my suggestions! I hope someone from the team will see this message because I believe there’s a lot of potential in the event sequencer, which could fully unleash players’ creativity and make each attraction unique.

Very good suggestions! One thing I would also add is the ability to copy and paste multiple events at the same time, instead of doing them one by one. All these QOL features would make event sequencing much less tiresome to work with!
