ENOUGH!

Exactly. I do assassination missions all the time, I don't recall any issues. Maybe the OP doesn't realise you need to either scan the Nav beacon or use a discovery scanner (which it actually instructs you to do in the mission brief!)?

lol, WHUT? I do 4 or 5 of these most nights. See my list of issues they have on the previous page.

I have a wild shot theory about follow on missions - they got triggered if you have very high rep with faction. Almost it's like "ohhh right it is you, we have another task for ya". Might be observational bias, obviously.

Not even then. I am allied with the Alioth Independents......& still no follow-ons!

I think many people don't understand that the bugs AREN'T usually "easily fixed". You need to be able to investigate the occurence, successfully and repeatedly replicate it and then come up with a solution in code that doesn't break ten other things in the process. When several people encounter a bugged out mission now and then, it isn't exactly easy to pinpoint, no matter how loud or long they moan.
Not fixing bugs for months or even years is not a good basis for a "game as a service".

Repped for the patience you show on explaining the game mechanics, even if OP seems to be the case of "no worst deaf than the one that doesn't want to hear"
If it is really like that, how is a player supposed to acquire that kind of information?

Project cars 2 - no bugs that I'm aware of
*ROFL* The AI still manages to pile up on turn 1 or does not react to rain or puddles, those bugs present since launch. The automated rolling start sometimes drives your car in a way (or even crashes it) so that the race director gives you a penalty (even though you are not even in control of your car). For more inspiration see SMS`their technical help subforum.

Fair enough, you get my point though, of all the games on my laptop currently, elite is the buggiest, I see you agree anyway. :D

Oh beautiful, and how do I find those POIs? For sure FD has had the cuteness to put them on the planetary map. Oh, noo. They didn't.Tell me, why should I find workarounds for bugs that are around since years and have been reported since years and never been fixed? Better to focus the development resources on weapon colors, paintjobs and bobbleheads I guess...
Dude, you are using it wrong..........

I haven't seen these bugs lately BUT the missions require gymnastics to do properly, which they shouldn't. In skimmer missions, if you fly your ship INTO the base where it's nose almost touches the base, I am seeing a 100 percent skimmer spawn rate - no need to even land the ship, just blast the skimmers and super cruise/return, or log out and in if you swing that way. And if you have around for assassination missions in the blue zone like 20 M from the planet I am seeing 100 percent assassination signal source spawns.

Admittedly these aren't the most intuitive mechanics and would benefit from revision. Skimmers (enough to complete the mission) should spawn EVERY TIME when you're 8km from the base. Assassination targets should be visible when you get 1LY from the target body every time. The missions seem more poorly designed than bugged. Hoping for improvements in BEYOND.

You gotta be kidding. Don't get me wrong, they aren't 'broken', but they are HELLA buggy.

1) You could be sent 1m light seconds and the payout will be no different, I know some say this is working as intended, which may be so, I still think it's supercrap.
2) The mission USS when you finally arrive could pop up in 2 seconds or 15 minutes. I can usually get it to pop within 5 mins these days, but it's stupid and annoying. Especially when the body is a star, it seems to be particularly difficult to find the sweet spot for the spawn.
3) About 1/3rd the time you are sent to 'Find a contact'.
3a) The contact is often not there when you first arrive, necessitating either a log off/on, or a quick trip to normal space then supercruise again.
3b) If the contact IS there when you first spawn, it's a dash to get away from the star before they fly past you and drop out inside the star's corona, again necessitating a respawn via either logging or drop SC, go back in again, repeat.
3c) The contact ALWAYS, ALWAYS without fail sends you back to the original system.
4) If you get tailed by 'Incoming Enemies' they are usually stronger than the mission target itself, and it can often happen that if you stop to fight an incoming enemy, that the target will drop as well, or vice versa. To deal with this, you can go back to supercruise where the 'incoming enemy' will interdict you and you can deal with them, but when you do that, 9 times out of 10, the next 'incoming enemy' is spawned, and you get a repeat of the first scenario. Basically, it's best to sit around and wait for the incoming enemies to attack you one by one, then complete the mission. In the unlcuky case that both the target and one of the incoming enemies are hunting you in supercruise, you may unavoidably have to fight 3 full strength enemies. This is rare but is in fact the worst complaint, because it renders the mission very difficult to complete in anything except your tankiest combat ship (I tend to do assassinations in a courier, which should definitely be an option).
5) It still frequently occurs for over 7 months now, that the target has a duplicate, which drops in after the fight begins. They arbitrarily pick a side, sometimes helping you kill your target (their alter egos), before turning on you. Sometimes you have to fight both together.
6) Bonus complaint...Combat missions should not spawn with cargo rewards.

They are really buggy. I haven't even read the OP and the rest of th ethread, but I will now...

Not kidding. Some valid complaints there, but let's not confuse bugs with design.

1) Agreed, needs scaling.

2) Never had 15 mins. Usually appears within 2 minutes, frequently within seconds. Of course, different people might have different experiences. It may be to do with how people fly around the target which determines how well they trigger for someone. I keep my speed a bit above minimum and keep my heading slightly away from the planet since if you are pointing at the planet it won't spawn the USS too close to the planet, thereby not triggering.

3) Nope, i only get that if i arrive early. Pretty sure its only triggered if you do arrive early. To avoid it, i simply don't go to the system until the start time has passed.

3a) Nope, always there for me when i've done that.

3b) Not had that problem either. Not saying it doesn't happen, just not in my experience. However, its rare i've done this, see point 3.

3c) Yup, so simply don't go to the system too early and never have this issue. :p

4) Again, not something i've experienced... and i've done a fair few assassination missions. I don't recall a single assassination mission where i was attacked by a mission related NPC on my way to a target. So, i guess ill have to take your word for this one. Personally i'd enjoy the chain of attackers. You say more difficult? Cool! Bring it on. Plus more bounties! A win-win! Doesn't sound like a bug either. Nothing wrong with doing assassinations in a courier, its a good little fighter ship. I personally wouldn't, but hey, depends on what sort of challenge you want. Don't complain though when you take a stick to a sword fight.

5) Interesting, never seen this one either. Maybe this is one of those things that only seems to happen in Open? You are doing these in Open?

6) Well, you might have a point, but again, not a bug and for me its useful. I often do assassination missions when working the BGS. When working the BGS its always good to get cargo rewards. You can then immediately sell them at your home station and it gives a little addition to your faction's influence.

So, most of your points are not actual bugs. Maybe bad design decisions, but that's not the point of this thread (as far as i understood). The bugs you do list, i haven't expereinced.

I'd agree there's a split there between poor design and poor implementation. Regarding 3, I've heard this said before, but I don't often want to wait, especially if I've stacked a load of them. I'll give this 50-50 design/bug. Therefore, if you DO need to rush these (or at least the first two of 5 let's say), then 3b becomes a problem often. Regarding 4, this tends to happen when you stack multiple missions. I also enjoy the extra difficulty IF I went in the right ship. A deadly Anaconda with a fighter and a Dangerous Corvette mission target is not feasible in the courier and still be enjoyable gameplay. Coupled with the well documented doppelganger issue (I've got it on video twice, and had it loads more times, and while often welcome, when it's not, it can be a pain in the butt. Then throw in the possibility that a target can escape and get full repairs and even a loadout switch... :)), it is a buggy mission type, as mission types go, it's probably the buggiest, along with planetary scans.

Not exactly missions you can rush though. All arriving early does is slow you down. If you stack such missions, just do them in order of appearance and try not to take multiple in the same system. You might need to kill some time before the first one becomes active, so just take a different mission or missions to other systems.

I mean, its right there in the mission description: Target will be in system from HH:MM. Going early doesn't make them appear earlier. OR at least much earlier. By the time you have done the drop down, chat, go to other system, listen to the other guy, and return, its usually time for the mission to trigger anyway.

I hate to promote whine threads but FD get given repeated chances to fix holes in the game like this.

It's like they don't bother listening to bug fix requests unless the forum is practically staging a revolt over it. Fix half the missions in the game? Nah, most people won't notice. Players worked out how to roll a G5 mod at the cost of a G1 mat? Nah, we'll ignore them reports. It's important, but we'll ignore it.

Wait, the forum has been informed of the 5-1 bug and burning torches are being lobbed at Brett? Well why didn't you say; we'll have a fix by Thursday.

It's funny cause it's true....

I'm not saying your wrong, maybe whining laud enough does help to speed up the process.
But you're suggesting that they don't fix problems and that's unfair, I think. They fixed hundreds of issues, glitches and bugs, last year. Just not this one, which, to be honest, I'm not sure how many people are having. Not many from what I've seen.
It's all about priorities. You've got a bloody long list of bugs, and as new ones arrive, the big ones are added to the top, the minor ones to the bottom. *shruggs*

I am well aware no development process is instantaneous, and I'm well aware they have a need to prioritise...but there's a point you've left holes in fundamental aspects of the game for a very extended period of time, and it's just not acceptable bug handling.

The 5-1 bug resulted in an absolute furore when it was eventually disclosed to the masses and the fix came days later. How do we expect bug reports to even be acknowledged seriously unless the forum can somehow use it as an Open/Solo argument point that explodes? We shouldn't be raising basic holes in basic missions that aren't addressed for months because it didn't generate a PvP/PvE argument.

Skimmers missions bugged (you are asked to kill skimmers in a base that doesn't have skimmers), assassination missions bugged (target not present in the timeframe and place where it should have been, so you waste time running around, jumping in and out the instance, system, whatever... nothing changes!).

Why should I lose time trying to increase my reputation with a faction, if I follow missions doomed to be failed, which will decrease my reputation with those factions?

If you look for those bugs, you find posts of 2016! Seriously, why all this? Frontier, it's time you sell the game and change your job. Shame on you ALL.

[down]

The mission description is not very clear about this at all, but very often skimmers patrol the area surrounding the base.
You might drive around a bit and see if you can shoot some there.
It has worked for me in the past.

Elite is a game under development, not a finished product. You clicked the tickbox when you were buying it.

I`m sorry but your statement does not correlate with statements made by FD

For them this is a finished game with an already released expansions

and the reality is its a broken and buggy mess

additional expansions are being developed on top of that mess too

there is no going around this

Horizons was labelled "early access" at the beginning on steam but frontier insisted that it`s not an early access title but a complete game so please don`t give me that crap.

you can`t eat the cake and have the cake guys... its either early access/beta/unfinished or not, you cannot just change it whenever it suits your narrative

Have we devolved to SC levels of fanboism already?

As pathetic as the OP is, it contains an, admittedly extraordinarily poorly presented, point. Mission templates shouldnt be bugged for months on end. I dont think there has been a single patch since 1.0 where fairly in-your-face elements were not rendered useless due to bugs, without FD hot patching stuff.

It has been discussed since forever, but we really do have the right to ask FD to either stop having such bugs in release version in the first time, or patch them in a timely manner. Right now their MO seems to be:"If it doesnt crash the server, block access to accounts or garner bad press, we'll fix it someday in the distant future.". It may make sense from an 'iterative efficiency' point of view, but it does mean your customers are permanently locked in an ever-improving but never-leaving-beta product. Which is only vaguely acceptable because its a time-honored tradition in sci-fi games. Piles of bugs and lack of in-game information: the backbone of this genre. :p

I do very much agree that fundamental aspects of the game should be fixed ASAP when bugs occur.
Whether missions are fundamental aspect, though, is debatable. To Frontier they are an afterthought, to me they are a do-hicky to make the game more gamey. For some, they may represent 80% of their gameplay and that's where problems start. So the real question is how important are missions to Frontier. Their approach tells me not that much.
