ETA on Space Legs?

No legs. Access to atmospheric worlds but not earth likes. Oh and the Thargoid story line thats been parked for last 2 years will continue... but no legs, sorry.

Right after the FC dumpster fire dies out and FDev needs something to upset everyone again

idea for FDev: once you have legs, you NEVER stop walking. Even after you log out. So if you log out your CMDR just starts walking in a straight line until he falls off a cliff or gets hit by a bus....so you have to stay logged in and play for ever or the longer you stay away the more likely your character will be dead when you return.

Also every step costs money.

I'm hoping the new era might not upset everyone and might be ..... exciting and amazing!

I hope so too... I guess there’s a first time for everything. However if the new era is space legs that’s not going to be the case. For people who play Elite for flying space ships legs is just another albatross.

Can you imagine, getting out of your ship, going into a cafeteria or a casino in a station and gambling on some machines? To earn extra dosh? That would be amazing!

I don't need to walk the damn planet, I just want to see the interior and exterior of my ship and take five sipping a coffee and gamble or something. :)

No news from FD whatsoever regarding SL because keeping your player bayes in the dark speculating for years is apparently a good thing.

I am a bit naive about space legs. I can get up and wonder about my cockpit or hangars in VR with only stairs being a problem - or walk around outside my SRV. Are we talking about something related to this or beyond this or just the flat screen version of the above? I don't actually 'see' my legs when I do this but then I'm not really looking for them.

I wish they'd abandon the idea altogether. It's been too long and considering FDev's history I'm afraid we'll just get more menus, more grind and more feature creep instead of interesting, dynamic gameplay. "Space legs" will be their next management game. I could hope they'd finally implement a proper economy into Elite, as well as improving core aspects of the game and bring back dynamic events (GalNet+CG+puzzles to solve like the Guardian stuff)

Also every step costs money.

You pay an upkeep cost for your shoes. Its 30 million per week and an additional 80 million per week of you want the additional "running module" and another 120 million per week for the jetpack. (It has a 30 second burn time and requires 5 selenium to refuel) oh you also have a 60 million cap. because... reasons... If you dont pay, the space DR's come and saw off your legs and bolt you back into your pilot seat.

Early to mid 2021 given that Frontier said they'll start revealing stuff after Fleet Carriers. Then again Fleet Carriers was delayed twice and Space Legs is a lot more coding and work on the game engine. Either way it's going to be worth waiting. FYI leaks earlier in 2019 seemed to suggest legs were on the way.

I'm sorry, but this is exactly the mindset that will set you up to disappointment (no offense, and not directed at you personally...)

In your head Next Era will include not only a first-person-x (x being what? walking simulator? shooter?), but also a simulated life with possible survival elements (sip coffee),
new (logical) internal renders of everything (interior and exterior), as well as games-in-the-game (gamble or something).

How on earth shall FD manage those expectations? They can't even implement Fleet Carriers without an uproar, and that was comparably easy against the above...

Haha none taken. That sipping coffee was just a wishful efflux.

Thing is, they've already got first person, in the form of buggies. The groundwork has been laid!
Other game have done it, in one form or another.

Hello,

It's been 5 years now. Can Dev's please comment? 2020? 2022? Even a rough timeframe would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Sorry to correct you .... it's actually been 7 1/2 years. Atmospheric landings, Space Legs, Ship naming and a list of other things were requested from day 1 of the kickstarter.

You’ll have to make do with (intriguing) rumours in the dark...
