Everyone that is BASICALLY happy with the game post here please

Beta backer and not disappointed. I just love flying about be it wallowing in a Type 7, racking up credits playing cosmic pin ball bouncing between extraction and high-tec systems, or in an Asp exchanging pew, pew's with commanders of low character. There is obviously room for improvement and thats happening, not fast enough for some granted, but what keeps me excited is i already like what i've got and i know it's only going to get better.

I am very very happy with the game

however, that won't stop me suggesting more ideas / pointing out things that are wrong or missing.
With more content & planetary landings / etc. it could literally be one of the best games ever made.

I really like Elite:Dangerous. The game is executed with great quality, the company behind it is interesting, talented and well grounded, the passed titles were a hit and the future plans and forthcoming content look very exciting. I've never been a hardcore player (relatively speaking, I enjoy games but I don't live them), but I've always played space sims (among other genres) from the first Elite game through to X-Wing/TIE Fighter, the Descent games, X Series and EVE Online. And there are so many positives about Elite:Dangerous.

1. Too many people are used to games that offer instant gratification. They are not sims, they are arcade games. Not surprising from the 'short attention span' generation. This is a serious 'grown up's' game xD
2. Sure, there's not much content, but the Game Engine is INCREDIBLE. This game is a slow burner and planned content for the future is going to expand on everything.
3. The ambient mood set from the beautiful graphics, ABSOLUTELY STUNNING SOUND and technical details all lend to a totally immersive gameplay. This is why I love space sims.
4. Among other control types, this game really supports the good old Joystick flying style. Bringing the hardware back into fashion. In all the best scifi, pilots use sticks...
5. They (developers) have entirely built the game around real physics (apart from FTL travel, lol). They've spent serious time and effort to make this a REAL sim.
6. The ships! They look functional and tough, no random wings sticking out purely for aesthetics. They also carry through in the same flavour from the previous games.
7. Customisation. Not visually, but in terms of upgrades and hardware for a million different variations of gameplay be it combat, trading or exploration, all unique.
8. Frontier Development obviously have a solid, working business model. Good for us, they designed, built and delivered a game with infinite scope to continue delivering.
9. It's the latest product of legacy dating back to the 80s and the cherished love of a UK based company, I love all nationalities of scifi but here in UK, we have a great pedigree in high quality, intelligent material. Support the home team and a rich lineage!
10. IT'S HERE! With the resurgence of space sims, Elite:Danerous has beaten the competition out of the box and is here to play now... and at a single cost too, without monthly subs. The bar has been set and it is high. With the hard bit done, the game engine proving its worth, the easy bit (adding content) will begin to flow. I'm also looking forward to the other titles, but I think they are going to be rethinking a lot of things after having seen what Elite:Dangerous is and capable of. Yes, current content is thin but the promise has already been fulfilled, it looks good, it feels solid and the fit and finish of what is available to experience and play is extremely high quality.

...Stuff it, I can't be bothered to continue - I could go on for ages. I'm gonna go play some more!

I came from Spreadsheets in Space (Eve) and I'm really happy about how 'hands-on' everything feels in the game; there's nothing stats based. Also the graphics, sound, and overall aesthetic is amazing. And it's elite. And it's massive. :D

Same here. Really got into the Lugh war. I'd love it if they did more GM'd community things like that. It was really great fun. I'm loving the ability to play solo or with friends (which we do every Wednesday evening) or with random people in open. The design of that side is something I massively appreciate. The additional ships have been really exciting as well.

Considering the only other game I played every day was EVE and I now just play Elite Dangerous every evening instead, I'd say they did a pretty darned-tooting good job.

I still play the '84 Elite!!
Elite Dangerous tops that by a massive margin.
Grinding is boring? Look at the view!
Grinding is boring? Choose a different role!
Want a change of scenery? Go exploring, there are 400 billion systems out there and I would bet the farm we have not explored even 1% of the space available to us.

I think its a great game. Lots of ways to challenge yourself, and change things up. Many of the negative threads are essentially 'I want it to be easier for me and my style' comments, not actual issues or improvements within the overall vision of the game (at least as I understand it).

I'm a miserable so-and-so so I wouldn't go as far as to say that I'm basically happy about anything, but I like Elite Dangerous.

i am a casual gamer playing tops 4-5 hours each week. i used to play crusader kings, football manager, stuff like that, cerebral stuff.

from the day i installed elite, i haven't played anything else, and i am trying to find an odd hour here and there to plug in my headphones on my laptop (yes i am that desperate) and put in a couple of dogfights or trade runs.

this is an excellent game, and will get even better. even the 'shallow ocean' set up allows for boredom-avoidance at any time. i've tried everything except mining and am happy with the 30-odd quid i paid. i wish i had paid more and was a backer so i could enjoy all the perks but i never heard of it till it was late.

I love this game. I can honestly I've never been addicted to anything as much since, well, FE2. I've enjoyed and continue to enjoy all aspects of the game as in mining, trading, bounty hunting and exploration which is my current profession and perhaps might be my continued profession for some time. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much but the thrill of jumping to a new star, scanning and keeping fingers crossed for something new. Found my first water planet last night. Not an earth type but a total liquid water ocean world. I cannot wait until I can take my ASP into the atmosphere of my waterworld planet find kevin costner and pew pew his catamaran.

Reading through this thread has cheered me up somewhat. I haven't been playing because I was finding it... (I won't say it to keep in line with the thread), but taking these posts in and seeing it from others' perspectives has inspired me to play more. Cheers :)

I have to say I absolutely love everything about it. It is many years since I have played a game that keeps me so engrossed and coming back for more. In fact, I think the last time I was so addicted was maybe 1984ish ;)

Even just doing trade runs has me 100% concentrated.....and just like in the original game when it comes toward the end of my game session I've caught the old bug again of 'right, just one more run then I'll go to bed'....then 3 hours later I finally collapse. I haven't even thought about playing any other game since Elite Dangerous entered the 'post wipe' era, and even before then I was putting in more and more time as the whole project became closer to the final release. For me it's the best thing ever :)

OMG Agreesd!!!

I'm still effectively playing 1.0 and absolutely loving it. Not tried a community goal (my PC is too slow for mass battles like Lugh) and not joined a wing yet. Will get a vulture soon (once I've traded for a T7) and join some friends in a wing and I'm sure I'll have even more fun!

I've got an unopened copy of Dragon Age 3 on the shelf and Pillars of Eternity is downloading - not going to be touching them for months!

I spent dress down day at work in my Deluxe box set polo shirt drinking tea from my Elite mug :)

Just realised it says post if you're 'basically' happy. I'm not 'basically' happy - I'm very completely extremely happy! :)

I love so many things about it. I lost myself in Elite on the BBC B when I was 14, and the same thing has happened again. Can't quite imagine evenings without it. Ace session tonight, always so much to try and get better at. After 3 months I feel I have barely scratched the surface, and new content is getting added faster than I can keep up with. Brilliant job FD, awesome community, umpteen heart-stopping moments. Love the little in-game nods to other stuff; I came across NPC XYZZY earlier tonight and just though, for the nth time, yeah - that's cool...

I like Elite. In fact, the topic descibes me very well. The fact I'm still playing it occasionally and still read forums out of interest alone is enough proof for me. Not many games keep me interested more than a short period of time. In my opinion the game has the basics to become something really great. If I dip through the DDF and see all the ideas that may be implemented at some time - wow. This will be awesome! There is so much more content to come. As a beta backer I understood I play an unfinished game content wise and the ride will go on long after the initial release. As a student of information systems I understand the complexity of the product Elite, so I never expected that this game will be "finished" when I joined Beta half a year ago. It's so much work and not an easy job to pull off. My respect to FD to actually create the game.

It will take more to get me as "hardcore" player - there is not enough to do and the "grind" is too repetive. I can't play it 10 hours straight and get fully sucked into the world like other games can do with me. Maybe at some day in 2016/2017 when some more major updates and add-ons appeared.
