Exobiology - fields/forests of mixed species

I've spend about 30 hours exploring and going after exobiology recently, but I've not come across any mixed species growing together on a large field/forest on any planet, apart from bacteria being mixed with some other stuff here and there. Even the single species are quite scarse and a field or a forest of a given specimen are very rare.

In the Alpha I came across stuff like in this footage I took in Alpha (timestamped, watch from 4:11 to 5:11). I've seen a planet in Alpha that had 3 different species mixed up in a massive field and it looked absolutely amazing. Like a proper vegetation - with a layer of grass and then a mixture of 2 other plants, all covering a massive field.

In the current version of EDO I've only ever come across fields or forests of just a single species (sometimes with bacteria mixed in, but also very rarely). It just looks poor compared to what I was finding in Alpha :(

CURRENT (the largest I've found so far - still just 1 species :( )

Did anyone see anything similar?

I've had a similar experience. I'm hoping as they improve Odyssey that exploration will get a buff to variety/play mechanics. The possibilities are endless!

Last night, Pemoeri 8b had "Electricae red" and "blue something elses" (sorry) which overlapped where I touched down. Following a circular search pattern, I did not see this again, only isolated clumps of each.

Edit: Wrong planet.. Let's try again

Last night, LHS 2661 E had "Electricae red" and Fonticuluar Campestris Turquoise" which overlapped where I touched down. Following a circular search pattern, I did not see this again, only isolated clumps of each.

The plants were spread out (compared to Alpha) to allow SRVs to drive around, to compensate for the lack of the lock-picking mini-game and to help with game performance (I'm assuming).

There are plenty of areas with a mix of plants (up to 4 in one region ime), they just aren't as densely packed as they were in Alpha.

Something like this could be made into POIs for deep space. "Glades" that have one species in a large area and "gardens" that have a variety of species that can be found in the biome in a large area. Could do similar with "geological event" for volcanic activities and "geological formation" for rocks/crystals. Better than all those useless distress calls.

No, both large patches and overlapping patches are quite rare. Then again I haven't been actively searching for them and I wouldn't know if certain planetary parameters would make them more common.

I've seen mixed fields of 2-3 plants but nothing too interesting looking or noteworthy combinations I can think of - if its stratums or common shrubs/tussock mixed in with something else it doesn't look that much more interesting.

They spoke about this in a stream, and when they reduced the amount of rocks to help with peoples complaints of not being about to SRV around very well, they also mentioned they were reducing the tightly packed xeno biology, and seemed like they didn't want to have multiple species together, as though it was a bug they were fixing.

The thing about the Biologicals in the alpha was that they increased the amount of biologicals and decreased the diversity limits. This was for testing although I clearly remember them being surprised by the result. It was never their intention to have these fields of multiple types. I remember that you could sample on one side of a field and then walk to the other to get a second sample.

So what you see now is the intended density and no, you should see far fewer mixing. And yes it was different in the Alpha for 'reasons'!

One of the things I think that would sell the biology more than it is now is some types creating 'blankets' of coverage. So some areas where tussock and something else grows the tussuck is there almost as a sea of grass or at least in much larger rafts. Then you'd have the other bio in pockets around often within those rafts. That would look a lot more natural and engaging to my eye than tufts and tiny areas growing here and there. Wouldn't need to like that everywhere but with a better implementation of a heat map you might find it on certain planets with the right conditions. Would make for more interesting vistas in my opinion.

No - but then would it make sense for it for it to be dense is the question.

FDev say they have scienced this out... Would you go to a desert and expect fields of green, for example? These are not you average life giving earth-like planets. They are balls of rock or ice where life is eeking out it's survival!
To be honest, I kinda feel like these planets shouldn't have any life, but as they do, may as well just do what the art director thinks looks coolest at that point.

I'm currently out exploring and I have come across areas that have two different things, for example those concha things and those "lace tree" things right next to each other. It's very uncommon (heck even life in general is pretty uncommon) but it does happen from what I've seen
