Expedition V - The Black Void

Day 20 - Super Cruise 159.67h - 65,684.00Ly from Sol

It's been exactly one week cruising.. almost 160 hours... according to my calculation I lost only 8.33h not cruising due to various reasons.. I pushed pretty hard but there is still some work to be done if I want to bust this record..

Day 24 - Super Cruise 249.33h - 65,705.50Ly from Sol

almost distant roar of the engines makes me sleepy.. my eyes focused on the navigation for this one moment.. 65,705... I've been here before, now.. into the nothingess of the black void.. there is only one pilot that has been farther from this point.. let's chase this trail.. I will get there, I can feel it in the air..

Day 26 - Super Cruise 286.13h - 65,714.10Ly from Sol

I opened my eyes slowly.. the engine rumble was like a lullaby. Well, I am exhausted as this has been almost two weeks in super cruise.. I looked at the instruments.....

Big smile came upon my face.. the record is busted. Now one more time I am sailing through the darkness that no man has seen before.
Based on experience of third attempts my calculations are usually pretty close to reality, but yet still I want to really see how much I can stretch it..

I will travel till the last tone of fuel and some more still in a super cruise tank.. I should be able to jump back to safety.. I should be ok.. if not, my capsule will float in to the nothingness..

Having plenty of time I do a lots of math simulations in terms of navigation and for sure in regards on how to optimize the route beyond Ishum's Reach to achieve the best possible result.. Why oh why, the instruments in our ships are so non precise.. or maybe a different way, why there are no true navigation tools which would allow us to plot and calculate precisely our routes..
Look how crazy it is.. couple of days ago I messed up, I did not realize that my rudder was a bit off and for a couple of hours I traveled at the completely wrong angle.. now I have a deviation angle of probably .2 degree but measuring the distance from Sol, I am around .4Ly behind what I could/should have been..
Yet another thing: Cmdr Keef Draw had for example no Sol system permit and was trying to calculate his position based on distance from other systems.. however looks like, he made a simple mistake because even with ideal angle/alignment and 66.3(9)Ly beyond Ishum's Reach, he couldn't have crossed the marker of 65,714Ly...

It's so frustrating that we have to struggle calculating "on paper" what we are planning to do or where we are.. or that we simply cannot calculate against the Sol system, because we have no permit to the cradle of humanity :|

Looks like I did not know that there were two Commanders trying to beat the record.. and they just did it!!!

Congratulations.. Cmdr Darivs Architectvs in Galactic Horizon.. If I understood correctly, new distance is 65,727.44Ly from Sol

There were no mistakes. It is all documented :D

Well, geometry and algebra says different.. if I am not completely crazy.. I assumed even that your max was 66.39... so with the perfect alignment it could be as below

Your last message was this one.. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...cord-Attempt?p=6751552&viewfull=1#post6751552

well.. 66.3 beyond Ishum's Reach.. even if it's 66.39 could not be more than 65,714.. am I having xenomorphic transition.. too long in the void? :)

in my case.. I deviated accidentally and now I have a loss of .4Ly... algebra does not work for me anymore :|

The only thing I had going for me and my angles were that I was super, super @nal about lining up Sol (Alpha Centauri) and Ishum's Star and my ship while warping away. I would unplug my controller at that point to not bump the angle off, being exceptionally careful when plugging it back in for looking at maps or taking video. I did bump it a couple times during the trip and did my best to correct.

Commander, 65,713.73Ly from Sol is a huge achievement.. what drives me more crazy, that you need to have a darn permit to be able to calculate your distance correctly.. I wish they could change it. There are other ways to block our way to the system that requires permit.. not being able to measure the distance... sucks :|

Getting that permit is a thing of a couple of hours playing the game.:)
But ok, blame FD for that while supercruising with your hotas unplugged for two weeks ;)

Ntl, have fun blazing your own trail :)

Well, I do have that permit.. I was just trying to be thorough in my blazing :) I just still think you should be able to measure the distance to the object that you do not have permit to.. not sure what's wrong with this opinion?

my HOTAS is plugged in.. that's what cost me the deviation ;)

Hotas, lol, try xbox one controller :D And yes I blame FD because when I go to free look with it, whenever I look up it pitches the ship up. Doesn't do that for any other direction. I have to free look with my mouse to avoid that.

Day 27 - Super Cruise 313.50h - 65,720.00Ly from Sol

Two weeks of cruising.. some say, it's crazy.. We blaze our own trails, right? Just learned few hours ago that another "slingshot" attempt is ahead of me by probably 8-10Ly. This is going to be an interesting final.. I am wondering if there is even a chance I could beat whatever Cmdr Darivs Architectvs is about to accomplish.. my calculation was quite optimistic until I realized my deviation.. still, it is going to be an interesting run..

Stay tuned Commanders

Day 29 - Super Cruise 364.20h - 65,731.00Ly from Sol

Rocinante is cruising slowly in a shadow of Galactic Horizon.. there is no chance for her to keep up though and this travel is soon to be over.. Still, this is the best build so far to get a single pilot that far from our Old Sun.. I do not think anybody soon will cruise ~90Ly with no help/refueling.. I am proud of her.

Cmdr Darivs Architectvs is going to travel far more.. and I did my own calculation, however I am not going to spoil it for him.. his final result should be really impressive in my opinion.. Let us patiently wait when he is at the end of his journey..

I tip the brim of my hat Cmdr Darivs.. ;)
