Exploration: Am I doing it wrong?

I just bought an ASP,

equipped it with an advanced and surface scanner and went out for my first little trip, getting some rare commodities and scanning on the way to get the grip on things.

Lo and behold, I actually find a system where no CMDR seems to have made his mark: LHS 1044
I scan everything, sell the data, go to the system map again to try and see if I stamped my name on the system.... it appears I did not.
Ok, I say to myself, maybe I just sold somebody a map of his interstellar backyard (they still paid the suckers! HA!)

Another system (LP 378-541) I scanned already had some "Discovered by" marks, but it also had a few unexplored planets. I scanned them (again with the ADS and the Surface Scanner), sold the data, no mark.

Am I doing anything wrong? Is my name not shown to me? Does it take it's time to update my map (I scanned them yesterday)?

Thanks in advance
CMDR Staremaster (if someone wants to check for themselves)

This just happened to me in Ross 807 (or 708). The interesting thing is it is now only showing the objects I scanned as explored so it has registered my scans but not allocated them to me. I only scanned it because no one else has.

Sol does not have a capital L. Do you want a review from me?

' They say you should not judge a book by its cover'. If 'they' are correct why have a cover at all, and why fill it with teasing pictures and snippets of newspaper reviews. This author is not Shakespeare they are BreakSpear. An overuse of capitals put me off. But the author of the book should not be upset they are in great company, I hated the Da Vinci code, and could not get to grips with the best selling book of all time, apparently written by god herself.

You can't claim first discovery on astronomical bodies in systems that already contain a starport. If you see someone's name on one of these systems it'll be a historical scan done prior to the first discovery feature being added.

You need to head out of the populated region if you want to claim first discovery credits.

I'm about 400Ly from Sol and there are no stations and first credits are visible.

That's outside the populated region but only by about 50 LY or so. You can certainly claim bodies here if you can find bodies nobody else has claimed. It may be better heading a little further out though. First Discoveries should start to thin out at around 500+ LY from Sol as kastia suggested.

There were some bugs reported with exploration data, it could be a combination of being too close to civilization and a borked bit of code. If you want to actually do some exploration you need to head out at least 1000Ly or more and do some serious scanning. If you set you star charts to show F,G and K stars you'll run into lots more metal rich, high metal, water world and earth likes while being assured of a scoopable star. That should get you the most cash per visit until you get your sea legs.

I turned in some first discoveries today, all of them were correctly registered when I looked up the star systems an hour later.

Sol does not have a capital L. Looks like everyone of your friends reviewed it do you want a review from me?

lol what on earth are you even talking about?

While my desperate use of my forum signature is, by definition an invitation to click that link, take a look and form an opinion, discussion of that link and opinion is hardly relevant to this thread or even this forum.

Meanwhile, your assumption that my few reviews come solely from people I know is deliberately vindictive and insulting - though I'm not sure what I did to you that requires such vindication.

To return to the topic at hand:

Does anyone know if there's a way to actually check if your name pops up anywhere, as a result of pre-patch exploration? I rather missed all the discussion about this, when the patch was incoming; if someone could point me at a link or something, I'd appreciate it. I'm rather doubting that I've achieved any such marks, but it would be nice to know if the very-scenic route I took to the Pleiades left footprints.

Also, I think at this point it would be wise (if leaving a mark is your goal) to find regions of space with nothing big and exciting; I suspect everyone has charted the Nebulae by this point - certainly the well known ones, like the Loop.

My apologies it was meant as a joke but I went too far. I have edited it.

I think my review of your cover is in line with your post re ASP, and amusing hopefully.
