Exploration data: is it a one-time scan/map deal?

Hello:

I'm new to the game (3 weeks), still learning the ropes, and this is my first post. Please forgive the noob question.

I'm just finding out you lose all exploration data upon death, and I found out the hard way: I died and lost +30 million in unsold data.

My question: can I go back the same route and re-acquire the data, or once a system is scan/mapped the first time it is done forever?

Yes. You can only hand in data for a system once but since you didn't hand it in in this case, rescanning it will let you do so, hopefully before exploding again.

LOL! Yeah, picking up a combat mission before selling my data (even if below my combat rank) was just asking for it.
