Exploration Data - one time collection only ?

Let's say, you leave the same station to a bookmark location in a great distance (hundreds on jumps), using the same ship, same modules, same FSD distance.

- you would travel the same route and stops , right ?

- if the above is right, after collecting the exploration data the first time, there would be no more exploration data to collect along the way on your additional trips, right ?
Assuming you just travel straight from the star to the next jump and waited long enough the first time till all exploration data doesn't show up anymore.
 
Correct - otherwise the less adventures types would just go A -> B until they were billionaires, and then complain the game is boring.
kinda of like (re) mapping all the earth-type worlds only in the bubble and turning them in, no discovery credit but credits for mapping them :)
 
Theoretically u would travel same route, see same systems, discover nothing new than the ones u already did, but when u hit the plot button its the computer that calculates and sets that route for you and the chances it is 100% equal to last time are at the most slim... There will always be a diference, even if so sligthly.

But rule of thumb is, since what is discovered by you or other commander cant be again, is to set course for a system close to your start position do a few jumps and them set for that one system u bookmarked so u could pick up from there, this will give u a much diferent route and chances are u will be discovering stuff all along the way.

This is what i have done over and over again in some regions around the bubble, and that enables me to explore in grids and get alot of area done.

That is one of the nice parts about the game when you are starting, u can map even the stuff that was mapped by other ppl before you, if u didnt map it u can do it to earn credits, only thing is that if a tag exists on it u wont be seing yours on them, but when i started playing the way i set about getting credits fast to progress was to go over the ELW planets in the bubble one by one and turning that data in...

I see variants frequently in A-B trade routing, specifically when I have 2-3 jumps between stations. I travel completely full, and also keep the tank full at every stop with no scooping, and yet often the plotter chooses one path for A->B and a different one for B->A.

In your case, it may well always pick the same outbound route, and the same inbound return path trip after trip, but those two paths will likely not be identical to each other.

This is classic behavior of traveling salesman software solutions, which I believe is used for the route plotter.

You could set your gal map filter under visited systems to only travel through unvisited ones. You'll just have to keep a closer eye on fuel than you would using the filter for fuel star types. Wouldn't it be nice if we could apply more than one filter at a time?
 
Well you can surface scan one single planet every time you come back, and after that map one single planet each time.
That's a lot of wasted time though.
 
Unless the star density was very low it would be unlikely to be the same route as the last jump would probably not be a near-max range jump.
