Exploration is Great

found one land able body with at least 2 dozen geological signals. lots of nice raw materials there to farm when needed. Think the mapping is my favorite thing in between being bounced off the servers so far. Nice addition gang!!!!

I have only discovered connection errors so far. Yee gods, this is bad.

Not a happy camper.

Was able to map one of my early discovered systems about 12 hours ago. Can't get back into the game since.

I will likely be avoiding the FSS mechanics for most of the duration of my treks into the black, but will muck around in them from time to time. Not much choice in the matter I suppose.

Might have some fun finding suitable supercruise parking spots. [noob]

So what did you discover new in those 750ly trip, beside putting your name on planets?
Anything we didn't saw before?

Besides planets? Isn't that a bit like saying "What did you discover in the sea besides fish?" This being a space game and all, it was mostly planets.

New exploration leaves me feeling ambiguous. Exploring a system is now complete easy mode, a large system that would have taken an hour before now takes 5 minutes. I haven't been able to get back to colonia to turn in and find out what most mapping rewards are, but an Earthlike is worth almost an additional 5 mil. The few geologicals I found were somewhat yawn-worthy as goals go, but do add to planet diversity, which was obviously lacking. First impression of the codex is that it will be as cartoon-like as ED markets, ie lacking much depth or complexity. I hope I am wrong.

The new interface is admittedly slick, once you get the hang of it. Still, after making more than half a billion in the old scanning methods, doubling that now seems likely to take only a tiny fraction of the time. Of course none of that really matters in a game where money is fairly meaningless and colonists aren't exactly rushing out to build up the new worlds you discover.

Oh and the mapping 'efficiency bonus' is utterly ridiculous. Who cares if you use 6 or 7 probes to get the job done? It just feels so ridiculously gamey. If they want to add benefit to engineered scanners they should have not made probes unlimited and used synthesis to restock them.

Well for me, I'm actually able to find things on planets that I was never able to find before. I have never found a geological on my own in the past (which sounds ridiculous) and I spend ALL of my time exploring. So this is great! Hoping to find something more exciting though. The whole process is much more enjoyable. I'm on my way back out to the outer rim and enjoying every minute of it.

I found one once - total accident

Last night I visited 4 and could have dropped in on over 100 if I wanted to

Found HGE's, found some spikey alien stuff, found a water world really easily with the new scanner

It's all very good...

(I do get why some people haven't gone for the scanner, it feels a little clunky and its a very different game now. But come on - you can actually find stuff, got to be better)

Spent, 9-10 hours with it yesterday, and I'm bursting at the seems to get back to it (once the server let's me in!). Never before have I been actually excited to explore. :) I am getting the vibe that now that we actually have lots of fun and viable alternative activities instead of just 1 or 2, the game is suddenly feeling very fleshed out. Combined with the lighting changes, I am starting to feel like it's a real Galaxy.

Same here! I'm exploring/scavenging on the fringes of the bubble. It's a lot more fun than it used to! Finding crashes ships and other interesting surface PoIs just takes me deep into the game now. Good times.

:D S

But... It can still take over an hour for big systems - if you choose to map them also. It only takes a few minutes to 'discover' them now. I also believe you will find payouts are less than you would have received from the old system if you had visited each with the DSS (unless you have mapped each body also).

The other benefit to the new system is that we are unlikely to turn up at an 'unexplored' star to find the 'valuable' planets only are tagged :) If a system has been visited and 'honked' the star will be tagged :)

"gamey"? - isn't this a game? The mapping probe count went stupidly high, it was much more challenging on beta 1 :)
