As some of you may know I have been exploring exclusively in human space, doing rares runs on economical routes and DS scanning anything not a gas giant moon, or a brown dwaf snowball system, along the way from point A to point B. Lately I've been using Thrudds and just picking the top trade route for my location and just scanning all the way there, so I'm criss-crossing a sector a fair bit for maximum scannage.
I've found many dozen hidden pirate bases this way (always nice earners at 50K-100K for the full system scan), and get attacked for my data and/or cargo a LOT, which is great, more fodder for my Python. I call this Practical Exploration, as the results of my scans are theoretically exploitable by the games players and factions.....without travelling 7000ly to get there.
But here's my question, why is it that each and everyone of these systems is already scanned by a player (although never DSS, it seems these are just drive by tourist scans), yet the information not available to purchase from UCG? This detail only appears after I ADS a previously unknown to UCG system.
I've scanned 1,400 systems, done 4500 DSSs and earned 12.5m from these scans (which I also believe is around half as much as I would have earned from an ego/tourist quest of the same duration/amount). I currently have 0 level 3 data (so no planets with my dog-tag, which is cool I enjoy being a ghost explorer). I brought this subject up some weeks ago and some Vet said "You don't understand how it works" without explaining further..thus I doubt he knew either...so does anyone know how this works?
Why isn't the previous explorers data available at UCG (the galaxy screen, buy system data), was this pre-release scans or beta explorers, and not wiped for release?
And most worrying of all, does this mean that when I sell data to UCG that it won't be available to other players, that I may map the entirity of human space and that it would have no benefit to player-traders/miners etc?
