Release [Explorer's Application] Captain's Log

Just updated to the newest version, just noticing one planet type that doesn't seem to be in the list: water giants? I've never found one but they definitely exist :)

Water Giant is most definitely in there. Middle row left, 5th planet type in ;)

Grabbed a fresh d-load, uninstalled/reinstalled last night.
There are no more strange update messages anymore, thankfully.
Water Giants, and Rocky(TC) remain unworkable, not a big deal, as I've never come across a rocky TC, and only one WG.

But, I have to admit that at the end of last night's session, I rolled back to 1.0.2, for strictly personal reasons. It's just much faster for me to enter system info using only the keyboard, than KB+M.

I'm finding it really difficult to understand why WG and Rocky don't work for you. :-/

Is it that clicking them isn't doing anything?

Clicking on them at my end works fine for me. That's kind of frustrating!

I can't figure it out either.
When I click on them the click-button animation occurs, if you know what I mean, looks like the button is depressed, but nothing happens after that.
I tried adding them first, I tried adding them after adding other planets, to no avail.
I'll blame Thargoids.

There's nothing "invisible" blocking them? Like some additional overlay program that's bunged some overlay elements there?

What I'll do is, I'll go back to the QtDesigner application, which I use to design the window layout, and see if there's anything there which might get in front of those buttons.

I'm 100% certain that's not the case, but you never know.

I'll then recompile the UI screens and recompile the binary, finally produce a new installer package.

I'll let you know when all that's done.

But so far - you're the only person that's reported that particular problem, out of the 188 downloaders as I type (187 if you've downloaded it again ;) ).

If anyone else who uses CL 1.1.0 could report back to me whether they're encountering the same problem - or not - that would be useful feedback.

Regards

I run the game on my main monitor, and Capt's Log on a secondary monitor.
Not sure what invisible program could be running, and affect only those 2 planets types... I can click on those two planet types over and over and over.
I'd love to be able to help you help me trouble shoot this, but if no one else is having difficulty, I don't want you to waste time on something that might be specific to me.

Checked those two planet types here and they work for me, I've not found a water giant yet either.

Re: feedback from my feedback: I do understand the pedantic nature of explorers, I'm just lazy and don't want to have to press buttons :)
I like your app so much its pinned to my taskbar, and I only have 5 things pinned :)

Rocky terraformables don't work for me, haven't tried water giant yet. But otherwise this is a great app that I've been recommending to everyone!

Any chance the two with problems have changed the base text scaling in windows which may be causing some sort of overlap?

I'd like to thank Genar for this program. Also to let the community know that he found another thread regarding CL issues on the forums and right away stepped in to help (and solved my CL launch error). I haven't had a chance to try out CL but I can say with certainty that Genar provides better customer support than a pay for product.

Thanks again for the assist Genar.

No problemo - also - I mainly monitor this thread - it was only by sheer chance that I happened to see your thread when I refreshed the "New Posts" when I did :p

May be the question was already raised, i search for an answer... but unsuccessfull.

It looks my DB is becoming greater and greater, and it takes longer for CL to start.
Not yet a problem, it starts in less than 30secs... but i'm not yet prepared to stop this trip and go back home.

Hence i'm wondering if there's a "fixed" limit in number of jump ?
Or is there a recommended value when to create a new DB ?

(EDIT: oh and there is no limit to the amount of jumps in a database.)

The more info you input to a database - i.e. more stars - the longer it'll take to populate the jump table when first starting CL.

It's just how it is. In order to display fancy star icons in the jump table, they all need to be dynamically created during initial loading. Frankly I'm surprised it's as fast as it is ;)

It's also one reason why I may not do the same for planet icons. I'll give it a test on a reasonably large database of my own, and make a judgement call on whether the time taken to populate the jump table with planet icons as well as star icons is viable or not.

Now, you could if you wanted to, create a new database, if you feel that the initial wait for the jump table to populate is becoming unacceptable - that's entirely up to yourself :)

If you do decide to create a new database, do that whilst ED isn't running, and remember to switch to the new DB after you create it. Then start ED and use as normal.

Greetings!

Just installed this software, as i'm on a road trip, and it looks promising.

I gave it the location of my logs, which happen not to be in appdata, but in program files(x86) for me : https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/faq.php?id=108

I then set a custom directory for captainslogs logs.

And then... it doesn't seem to track my jumps. I have the game launched and I am jumping into random and unexplored systems atm, but CL simply don't see it (nothing happens there). I have made a custom database.

Here is how it looks like :

And it's not tracking systems, so far. Any ideas ? Cheers !

Two possibilities;

1) Incorrect Log directory setting.

2) You started the game before starting CL. CL has automatically created the configuration file necessary to enable Verbose Logging from the ED game client - but you'll need to restart ED for the game client to act upon that directive.

My guess is (2)

Regards.

Thanks, i did start the game before CL, i'll relaunch it and see how things go.

Edit : yes, that totally did the trick. Thank you very much!
