Explorers at Jaques - You Have No Excuse Anymore

Meh.

I had ships chase after me all the way from Sol to Sagittarius A* and back again back when I was merely Mostly Harmless and in an underequipped Cobra.

I survived.

I'll take each day and blaze my trail one jump at a time.

Also, on the issue of contact binaries/heatsinks someone mentioned, the only time I have taken damage in am Asp in those circumstances was with dirty drive tuning.

Couple of people mentioned it, myself included.

The thing is that they vary in intensity. The vast majority are okay. By a long shot.

Now sometimes you'll pop in and you will land yourself literally smack bang in between two stars orbiting each other quite closely. The heat build overlaps very strongly and you'll get a strong heat increase even without charging the FSD.

The majority of people panic, charge the FSD to get out ASAP, and get some ouchies. Stories of people blowing up in this fashion aren't all that rare.

Low emissions/clean drive mods can really help take the edge off it, but a heat sink as backup never goes amiss. Smaller ships...don't bother with multiple I guess, but for the next-to-no jump range loss you get on bigger ships, I can see a couple (or four) good for those "I'll be back later, probably somepoint next year) journies.

And so it's one of the reasons I'd avoid dirty drives like the plague on exploration ships. Exploration ships should be cool. Easier scooping, less damage when something causes you to build heat that badly.

Contact binaries that intense are rare. But it's no consolation when it murders you out in deep space with several filing cabinets worth of exploration data ;)

This whole thing about taking damage when heat sinks could have saved me...I'm into week 3 on this latest trip and am exploring the wide open spaces between the arms that everybody else avoids, and have taken a total of 6% damage...mostly due to over enthusiastic scooping and once when my daughter threw a fit and I had to walk away from the keyboard immediately and flew into a sun. All of that was avoidable with just a little more care and attention.

Even escaping that situation only sees the temp going no higher than 110% which is just below the threshold that causes damage...it's certainly critical but not damaging until it passes about 115% or so. I've never, since my early days, ever, had a bad landing on binaries. I've landed in systems where I'm almost on top of one star, and have another star on either side in close proximity, and still not taken so much as a scratch or felt I needed a heat sink to escape it.

Which means that the absolute only way I could justify using them at all was in a combat situation...and there's really not much combat out in the black, especially if yer in solo mode for the better connection.

Even if that were to change with the onset of aliens in the black, then I'd be out the door anyway so it's a moot point. There's very little chance of me running into another player out in the black, so it gets harder and harder to justify heat sinks without infinite ammo. Maybe if we could dump them in space after they become useless? But as they are now? I'll pass on them ^^

Good post OP, however, some us don't have the will or the time to go on the quests for the Wizard upgrades. I play in Solo now for that reason. Shame, I really like bumping into folk.

Dear Frontier Moderation Team,

Thank you for enlightening me by issuing an advisory to me.

After months of reading rants threads, lesson-givers and countless pseudo-debates ending in the same 'I'm right, you're wrong' pattern, all spiced up with some latent aggressivity and contempt (pardon me if my reading skills are wrong!), I foolishly thought I could venture myself to dare say 'blah blah blah' as a means to express my opinion about where this thread was going.

The 'blah blah blah' is a repetition, a very common figure of speech simply multiplicating the same message, that I used here as a form of light humour depicting the non-debate that was taking place. Since a vast majority of threads here end up this way, I think this is a decently justified and accurate comment on my part. Not the most interesting I admit, but not the most out-of-place.

But I was wrong and foolish! It seems this was beyond the rules and beyond the tone one can often read in this place. And I shall agree that my post was indeed a disgusting spam, when the countless rant threads, for example, are not. Now I try, believe me I try to make it up to this forum by bringing useful threads, by providing tools, info, art, as much as I can, but I shouldn't have flawed and let myself try to show some second-degree humour. No, I shan't have.

So pardon me again, Frontier Moderation Team, for spoiling this forum and not making it a better place. I deserved this and shall hold this advisory tight, as others may come when I try some other forms of humour. Or I could use memes and gifs, like others do. I'm so stupid.

Now to be clear, all this is sincere. If someone sees any second degree here, well that's their reading skills.

Thank you for keeping me straight.

Now now, don't beat the whole team over the head, there will always be bad apples.

Meh. As with all things in life, discipline from the officials on these forums is administered not on a sensible or genuinely just level - purely when someone feels indignant at something they don't like and can twist one of the terms to suit reporting the post.

I've been issued an advisory recently because my post was "impersonating someone". Come to accept that it's a positive thing...means that I am not getting rusty on the sarcasm front :)

I got an advisory a few weeks ago, still not sure what for though. It is important that moderators keep on top of the posts and given the number that they must have to read when a hot topic is underway there will be a few wayward shots.

No, it probably just means that the mods don't like when others change the text in quotes. Those "fixed that for you" and in-quote answering are apparently things that aren't allowed.

I think we're forgetting the most important piece of equipment for any player who doesn't want to end up in a situation where they might lose to another player, or there's a bit of risk attached.
