See this is the kind of good input that's needed here - thanks.
Which explains why I looked at your suggestions earlier, gave a little chuckle and thought no more of it. If I really wanted to fit a ship and customize it with engineer mods as a long range tactical recon ship, then this could indeed be done, but not in the way you suggested because as GTwannabe has already pointed out, just about everything suggested requires a much larger power plant which would be a huge compromise in terms of weight. Personally, I run a 3A which supplies all my needs with ease and allows me to run at an average of 17 and 20% with several unneeded modules deactivated. Ergo which makes it ideal for swooping and scooping.
Shield boosters fer what? I do have a 4d shield fitted, but this is purely for planetary landings for the odd mishap on high g planets. It's one of the normally unneeded modules that only gets activated when it's actually needed.
Besides which...anyone with even a basic understanding of military thinking will tell you that the absolute best type of long range recons there are, are the one's the enemy is never aware of in the first place. That means being able to out jump any other player and stay ahead of them with ease even when interdicted...that means being able to hide and to stay one step ahead. As we don't have the ability of a stealth technology like cloaking, we have the next best thing which is range. Ironically enough, this is where the combat vessel suffers the most...so the thinking and the logic and the setups used are the absolute opposite of each other.
Perhaps if engineers were less of a grind, I might have given them more of an effort, but that meant staying in an area of the galaxy that bores me in the extreme. I'm an explorer, ergo I want to explore...not run the gauntlet in open or search fer weeks fer something silly that ye don't even know where to look for it. Am I complaining about it? No...I'm just stating I can't be bothered with them so many of the suggestions to get mods is really not a viable option.
The point I was trying to make was that if I'm forced into the direction of the engineers, then this is simply not a game I want to play. If they destroy the exploration aspect of this game, then there's nothing else here that interests me enough to stay. It's a damned good single player game as it is now, with the multiplayer aspect being totally ruined fer me. Agree to disagree on this because the single only thing that will change my opinion on solo only play, will be when FD step in and make changes to the current crime and punishment system. I can easily afford to take 50 rebuy screens on my asp build which is dirt cheap tbh...but I'll stay in solo on principle alone until something changes. Faster loading times and less lag anyway so it's a win win situation in solo play.
Oh and apart from a fast a rate cobra I use in the bubble when I'm forced to go there, that and this asp really are all I have in this game...along with the data I risk losing on death which is why I'm very keen on avoiding such an eventuality. The pvprs feed on salt and but hurt and what better way to provoke someone than by making them lose months of data fer 10 seconds of someones giggles ^^
