Explorers - Do you look after your FSD?

My console exploration alt jumped between a close binary pair and had to limp >3kly to find a carrier with docking access.
My Odyssey exploration alt has a carrier of her own now.
You haven't been properly initiated as an explorer until you blow out the glass between you and vacuum of space doing some foolishness with a white dwarf or neutron star then having to limp back to the closest outpost or planetary port to repair all whilst watching the oxygen timer tick downwards. Fun times.

Bless, that's so cute 😁

(I'm only teasing, I know you're a fairly new player)
I'm just paranoid. Any time I get around 50 million, I run back to the carrier. Longest I ever stayed out was before I got my fleet carrier and had no idea what I was doing. After a week and a half I had just over 50 million and went all the way back to Deciat rather than risk another single landing.

The most sweaty palm things I ever did in this game was not selling over 500.million in exploration data to the DSSA carrier, and jumping into the Abyss where finding the next star you can reach with a level 3 FSD injection is a challenge. 8 hours of game play to get in and out including time spent at Far Oasis and exploring the Hidden Abyssinial Treasures systems. That was the last 500.million I earned before the fleet carrier purchase.
I've not found an exploration experience to match it yet.

I would have had a stroke about the time I hit 200 million.

Question: I haven't really looked everywhere for it because I never cared enough and sell my data very regularely; does the game tell me how much exploration data I have accumulated? Well, other than visiting to UC of course.

about 2 years back, i intentionally got my FSD into the single digits jumping between two NS close to COL70 Sector. It was a bit inconvenient cause the NS were bought not the Main Star and one of em was 20kls out. The goal was to have an FSD Failure while jumping (*edit: the straight line was going thru COL70 ) but i gave up after a few hours and droping in the single digit region. I was playing whit the idea to get it all the way down. but had other things i wanted to try as well. So ended up jumping a few hour around the COL70 Sector whit an FSD <10% but apart form the inconvenience to get constant FSD Malfunction Warning nothing ordinary was going on.

I fix FSD when it gets to "FSD malfunctioned". Don’t see the point in repairing earlier - it works properly. I use neutrons whenever I can, so I run into this all the time.

Never even glance at it, only once ever had it drop to the point it started having problems, and I just flew with it like that for a few thousand ly.....

Cool! Did you notice any differences at all? Other than the "FSD malfunctioning" message?

If you use NS/WD boosting, you better not let the FSD malfunction. It can drop you to normal space while boosting and if you're still within the jet, you see the rebuy screen shortly.

Yes that need to be kept in mind for people who do that, I don't so I have never bothered with an AFMU, and I try to avoid crashing into planets and stars, not always successfully mind you, but I do try.
