Exploring

Ok, maybe I'm being a little thick here but for the life in me I cannot use the FSS and make the legendary "HONK" or whatever it does now, I'm in a system where none of the planets have been discovered, I've activated the FSS and then held button "Y" down for over a minute and..........nothing, Nada, zip and it's getting very frustrating. Is there an Elite Dangerous player in the UK who knows how to do this willing to talk me through this on the phone....PLEASE..

when was the last time you used it?

After the last update my fire groups got changed a bit - have a look in there

you probably know this but you need to be in exploration mode (blue letters everywhere)

hope this helps

Once you honk you have to locate the planets in system (make sure you have all the exploration controls mapped). Look for the blue blobs, then zoom in on them should then add that planet to the system map. At the bottom of the FSS is a radio tuner which gives you an idea to what planets are in the system, move the slider onto one of the signals and scroll around (once you are close to a planet you get little white arrows pointing to it.

The honk should be from one of your fire buttons, once the scanner is assigned to it (using the fire groups). Have you done that? Is Y your normal fire button?

Ok Fire Groups are to the right - second panel

you should see a list of modules that "do stuff" (guns, scanners, limpets)

make sure you still have a 1 or 2 on the FSS (after the update mine reset and was not assigned)

Myself and many others found our discovery scanner fire group bindings had remapped to the composition scanner after the update.

So, as others have said, that may need fixing.. Certainly had me confused for a bit.

Ok on the fire group panel I have under utility
Kill Warrant scanner
Data Link scanner
Composition Scanner
Discovery Scanner
Detailed Surface Scanner

So should I have an independant Full Spectrum System Scanner as well?

The discovery scanner is the one you need to "honk"

You also, however, need to have a button mapped to open the full spectrum scanner.

Seems you may not have done that part.

Once you open that (it's a totally different UI to the cockpit) you can then do all the stuff. The first time you open it, it will also have a load of help information.

However, it will be fairly useless help information if you dont already have all the controls mapped, as it will say things like "Press (UNBOUND) to perform system scan"

So, check your bindings, look for the full spectrum scanner section, and bind all of that.
