I really hate the current ED API implementation. I won't go into why. We all know why. And I won't go into it because it will cause a firestorm. Even though this post, itself, will cause a firestorm.
There is no reason why FD can't expose the data they're exposing now using lua (or other). With lua they could also include the ability to send commands to ED, such as to request docking, jump, etc, without having to simulate user clicks/hotkeys.
But it will promote hacking, you say. There's already hacking! This won't make it any easier or harder.
But it will promote automation. x.x There... is... already... automation.
Other naysayer excuses here. Other reasons why naysayer excuses make no sense here.
