Engineers Exquisite Focus Crystals - What am I doing wrong?

Anybody doing Empire missions in HIP 10716 & Wu Thingy should be OK too, I bagged four EFCs and 12 CIFs (which I wasn't even chasing) in a couple of hours of mission running there the other day.

Idk if this will help..
But I had been on the Wu Gunagi/Hip. A,B,A for a few days prior to leaveing the bubble on a 7Kly trek.
Mind you I'm "Imp Scum" and am allied with all factions in loop,,
but I did some hard engi-rolls prior to leaving,
and I'm still holding 9.

Can somebody explain why those EFC are so important ?!
To me EFC seams very overrated on not wroth of effort to get..

Is it all about:
POWER DISTRIBUTOR - CHARGE ENHANCED (GRADE 5)
https://inara.cz/galaxy-blueprint/67/
?!

I prefer:
POWER DISTRIBUTOR - WEAPON FOCUSED (GRADE 3)
https://inara.cz/galaxy-blueprint/70/

Materials for this is very easy to get so you can roll 15-20 times to get bonus values...

At least of PvE ships system and engines are not that important

Or there is some PvP meta thing ?!

Hi Motti,

Are you including passenger missions in that? I was in Xihe quite recently during boom state, and the passenger lounge was on good form, and I managed to get 3-4 per evening over a four day stopover - alright, I'm not gonna be doing any Mini-style over-engineering with the twenty or so rolls I have, but my power distributors were G5 charge-enhanced long ago, and I'm pretty sure I can get a couple of great results on thermal and kinetic shield boosters with that.
My best advice would be twofold: firstly, take the pressure off yourself to get the EFC right now - G4 is pretty flippin' good for now, so roll on that as an interim-measure. Secondly, incorporate checking mission boards and passenger lounges into your refuelling/repairing routine, take em when you see em, (sometimes they give you two!) and you'll accumulate a respectable stash soon enough.

And to GaryII above, yeah EFC are only needed for charge enhanced - they are worth it because you get bonuses to recharge rates across the board - your WEP focused will leave you with poorer ENG and SYS performance which will only suit certain pilots in certain situations.
I run ENG focused PD's on trade/industrial ships because I don't care about WEP or (to a lesser extent) SYS performance, but I do care about all those things on my combat ships, which is why I've so far found it worth pursuing the EFC, than settling for a compromise.

Charge Enhanced is the most popular Distributor mod, so yes. But also Thermal Resistance Shield Boosters, which have extremely difficult rolls to get perfect, and most people have several Boosters to roll, meaning a large amount of EFC to roll them all well.
Throw in the fact EFC have usually been A) locked behind pure, low chance, RNG or B) Accidentally removed from the game, and you have a contentious topic.

I tested both I don't see big difference between WPN and Charge for combat, but that was for PvE combat and big ships like Conda, fCorvette and Python..

I guess, for small ships and PvP ability to boost more often is better..

If I was new player, I started with WPN grade3 and avoided that EFC hassle and then later tried Charge G5 if I got EFC without relogging and wasting time on other ways to get them..

Yes, low RNG and bugs was reason, why I asked question do I really need them at all..

So I said NO and just over time I got EFC, too

Then tested CHARGE G5 and was no very impressed...

About boosters I prefer all RESISTANCE AUGMENTED and HEAVY DUTY and on some ships I have thermal res shields...that does not require EFC..

Well, firstly I should admit, I haven't actually rolled on WEP focused, so you are better informed than I. Moreover, if the materials are easier to get, and the performance you're getting is all you wanted (or more!), then it matters not a jot what I, or anyone else says - if it works for you, go with it!

Where I do have experience is with ENG focused, and I've found there's a maximum usable bonus, after which further increases are nugatory.
What I mean by that is, once the ENG capacitor can recharge enough to boost again in the same time the thruster takes to cycle and be ready to boost again, you won't get much benefit by recharging any quicker, even though such rolls are easily possible.
In a trade ship, you can use this fact to down-class your PD, saving weight whilst maintaining optimal boosting. In a combat ship, weight isn't a concern, so charge enhanced boosts my engines to the maximum useful amount, whilst also boosting WEP and SYS.

I haven't tested with WEP focused, and since weapons usually don't cycle in the same time-scales that thrusters do, I could be wrong in holding the view that CE is better than WEP focused - however, back to my first point, I NEVER find myself wishing for more WEP capacitor in combat, and I don't like the idea of losing any shield regen or boosting capability, and I have been able to obtain EFC's in sufficient quantities to get good bonuses, so I'll probably need to run into a situation/fitting where WEP is a problem before I try switching.

NEVER find myself wishing for more WEP capacitor in combat,

1) ENG focused is must have for exploration ship, with it you can boost exploration Anaconda with D5 thrusters.

On trade Cutter i have WPN to kill persistent bounty hunters or pirates...

2) SYS you can easily restore it by putting >=2 pips in SYS so it a low priority for me

3) I always wish more WPN capacity/rechange since with it I can kill things faster...

But I am PvE only player so this all depends on preferred playstyle

I try to avoid any hard to find materials, since I hate to waste time on "fighting" bad game design or bugs...

In general, I guess here is deeper analysis needed - idea for youtube clip right here ;)

Yup, all mine have it, no argument there!

Well, a good G5 CE roll will knock a G3 WEP focused out the park for recharge, it's mainly capacity where it falls short

Actually, KB has already made that clip! He was pretty much on the fence, although he did say up front he was disregarding ENG and SYS stats - here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUoVyypCCmI

This what drives people batty, I see the EFC's and MEF's constantly as mission rewards, just today I must have seen at least a handful in my home system and nearby destinations.

Now, I'm still looking for CIF, I have 40 of them but want to get to 50 to try for a god roll (maybe!!!) after the update. They seem to come and go, I swear there's an algorithm built in that keeps you from getting what you're looking for!

I think I get most of mine from mission boards.

I also think I get them from big combat kills when bounty hunting or running CZs (FGSs, Condas, etc...)

Hehehe...you little minkey! Or if you're serious, I think Fruitbat might have something to say to you :p

Missions only!!!...& I've just dumped 15 to free-up some mat capacity - so they are not currently bugged (post-2.4 though!? [blah]), but you are at the mercy of RNG, ofc.
