3rd person view 3rd person view

1 )I understand that for some of you this breaks realism. But even the most realistic flight Sims offer 3rd person view. Make it optional in menus. If you feel it breaks realism for you then turn it off but that doesn't mean other players who want this simple feature cannot use it.

2) we spend countless hours trading and upgrading ships, but outside outfitting were not able to even look at it. The amount of details on those ships is incredibly stunning, it's really a shame we never get to see it.

3) for combat, just like you cannot log off for 15 seconds, that same variable that blocks users from logging off during combat should be used to block 3rd person view Usage. Simple enough.

4) think about it from a marketing standpoint. the amount of user generated videos and content Would look so much better from 3rd person perspectives. imagine taking exploration shots with your asp in it. As opposed to from cockpit

5)it gives me a reason to buy paint jobs...

It sure would make those long boring exploration trips better. While you're scanning instead of watching a little icon twirl around you could enjoy the view.

I'm sure there is some super secret, black box reason we can't.

To each his own, but all I want to see is what my eyes can see from the cockpit.

I don't understand this at all. One of the reasons I take the car down to the car wash is to (other than wash it) admire its beauty from the "outside". Gimme a reason to limit my views in the game, otherwise kick the tires I say....

But you cannot admire its beauty from the drivers seat. It would be nice to give us a walkaround in the station. not out in space.

Without reading that entire thread, what does EVA stand for? External View A...... Iassume?

:D Exciting

It means Extravehicular activity. It relates to any activity done by an astronaut outside of their spacecraft.

In ED it means you can leave your spacecraft whilst in space.

That is why people LOVe the external view feature in Simulations. It enables them to see the planes, cars, spaceships in a cinematic, beautiful view.
Imagine Star Wars, Star Trek, The Fast and the Furious, 60 seconds, or even Space Odyssee 2001 only shot with views from inside a cockpit or car...

Again, nobody asks to force people to use it, that like to play from the cockpit view only, just be kind enough to let others enjoy the game in a way ALL other simulations already do.

How would you like it, if Frontier had decided to nerf the weapons and dogfights into a "Realtime Strategy" part or a dice roll calculations? Wouldn't you ask for First person pilot view?

Oooh Space Walking! I wonder if they will do an external view for our spacesuit? I could wave to the camera as I fit a new hull plate ! :D
You mean like with a camera on an robot arm as the ISS and Space Shuttle does? Naaah, not in the year 3001. Humanity is degenerating by then and nobody knows how to build a camera or how to attach it to a robotic arm.

People barely keep the FSD and beam lasers working without knowing how they work, I guess.

Immersion: External Cameras Immersion: External Cameras

We have these on current jets like the A-380, so I'd assume the mini-cam tech would be just as good in space. Rear view, belly view, down view... really, that rear view is needed. In reality, these ships wouldn't have windows at all, they'd have cameras all over and a virtual cockpit, but I like the graphics. We do need some "camera views" to cover the visual blind spots (aft, down).

I just wanna see my ship flying around in 3rd person view. Limit the views in a dogfight if you believe its a cheat... I call that "situational awareness" but I can't have everything I guess.. Like he said don't use it if you don't want to otherwise. Even Falcon 3/4 had a flyby view...;)

Hey,

Great idea, it has some issues with removing immersion from space combat but* there are several area's where this would be awesome.
This subject has been covered in great detail in other threads, if you do a quick search you can probably find it along with a poll for/against it.

No offense intended, but please do a quick search beforehand, its not for credit for the original poster, more that so we dont cover old ground
and sometimes* dev post... which you've probably missed.

Suggestion for the I-wanna-see-my-ship-from-the-outside-dilemma Suggestion for the I-wanna-see-my-sh

First off: I for one am content with the way it is in actual gameplay - no "3rd person ship view" etc. I still like paying money to Frontier for paint jobs and stuff - mainly to further support the game. But, like many others, it still feels deeply disappointing that you don't really get to see what you bought.

Now I do realize it's not unlikely this idea has been formed and posted on these forums before - still, just in case, I'd like to give you my take on a solution to the "I wanna see my ship from the outside, what with all the paint jobs I can buy etc. / but we don't want to do this in actual gameplay for several (understandable) reasons".

How about: for the LOADING SCREEN, instead of a generic orange HUD-styled model of our currently selected ship we get a non-HUD-styled view of our actual ship, with currently applied paint jobs, outfitting etc.?
Plus: maybe it could even be programmed so that while loading (and after loading has completed, until we click start or sth.), we could rotate the ship, zoom in etc.?

A sort of compromise, since we would get the ability to view our ship from the outside whilst not actually in game(play).

Anyway, happy Elite-ing, fellow CMDRS! :)
