No, you just insulted people.I didn't accuse selfie takers of being idiots... just narcissistic. Please don't put words in my mouth, one's an accurate description and the other's a blatant insult. I didn't insult people, I described them accurately.
No, you just insulted people.
Oh look if you want to do that.. then ok... "Yes! Just yes!" There, feel better now?
Did you hear me say "simulator" or "realistic"? No, you didn't. You heard me say "immersion" and "thinking man's game"... this is as versus "mario karts in space with frikken lasers" which is what the "I want pewpew in 3rd person" crowd would turn it into. I gave respect where it was due, I praised FD's decision to disable ship controls while in third person. Now how about YOU give respect to views other than your own too... either that or YOU get over it! Calling views other than your own "crap" is not called for - welcome to the real world where people are allowed to disagree with you.
Almost no post in this threadnought has insinuated, in any way, that they want 'pew in third person' - that comes from the paranoid delusions of the PvP crowd fearing an almighty weight of advantage (which wouldn't exist) should cameras be a 'thing' in combat.
When you go about telling others to be respectful, its usually a good idea not to project misinformation onto others.
Every post I've read in favour of full controllable cameras in here wants it for vanity shots, or, like me, for effective video making purposes. EDIT: Which I should add we still wont have because of concessions given to the damned multiplayer lot.

You really are a funny word-twister, aren't you.No, I accurately described self-taking behaviour.
Narcissism: inordinate fascination with oneself; excessive self-love; vanity. (from dictionary.com).
If you find that description of selfie-taking behaviour distasteful then you can look into changing your behaviour if you like, but don't accuse me of insulting you just because I used an accurate description.

Nope, I don't feel being insulted because you used the word "narcissistic", sorry about that.![]()

The arrogance in this:Then what on earth are you complaining about?
Oh well, there's obviously a bunch of narcissistic, selfie-taking players who can't imagine themselves in a universe where they can't see themselves in the third person, I don't believe that there's that much desire to stop and take scenic snapshots without the cockpit in the way. It's sad that FD have once again bowed to the "lowest common denominator" instead of aiming at trying to be a "thinking man's game", but at least it looks like it'll be implemented in a manner that won't advantage those who make use of it in any real sense. I just hope that the drone isn't built into every ship, but is a separate module that you have to purchase and install at the expense of some other piece of equipment.
So? Limit it to solo/group, problem solved.
Then they shouldn't mind that their ship is uncontrollable while they're using their vanity drone, right?
Oh and FYI I didn't originally post in "this thread"... the thread I posted in was merged with this one, so anything I'm saying has no reference to anything that was said here "pre-merge".
IHow is having a an uncontrollable ship useful when your trying to make a video? How do you film docking? How do you do close dynamic flybys? How do you do ANYTHING bar seeing a ship flying in a straight line?
I've probably gotten this one wrong, maybe we actually share a similar position on that. Could you try to explain it in other words to me?
I agree with you regarding wanting the camera to not affect gameplay, but calling anyone using it a narcissist is inflammatory to say the least. I think the words you need to focus on in that definition, are excessive and inordinate. Is taking a photo of a cool moment in game excessive? I wouldn't think so at all. I'd like to be able to remember it and look back on that moment, just as I would a photo taken in any other fashion, be it in a game or real life.
When I argued with Michael Brookes about the changes to FA Off back in beta, he told me "playability trumps realism". Fair enough, this is a game, and it must be playable. It is however equally NOT a sci fi movie creation suite. I think it's it's great that you want to use it to make movies, and it's great that they've given you a method for doing so "from the outside" but the number one priority is that it remain a game. They've chosen to allow you access to the debug camera that for a long time they swore black and blue would never be public domain, and put in a limitation to ensure that it (hopefully) can't be abused within the game play. I'd hope that rather than complain about the limitation you'd be happy for the increased access and understanding of the need to limit it's abilities.
Surely as a film maker you'll be able to find ways of making good use of the camera as described?
The arrogance in this:
I really wonder if they seriously expect to sell paintjobs and decals with no external view. I don't think it's an accident that they were giving away some for free a while ago. Sure there will always be someone who buys them anyway, but that's a small portion of what they could make if they opened it up to external views. Hell, not just me, but all my small group fo friends, would pony up (as we always do in game with RMT for character/vehicle customization) IF WE COULD ACTUALLY ENJOY SUCH PAINTJOBS. And no, the fixed and limited cameras of the outfititting hangar are not enough.
If you can find a less "inflammatory" word for "inordinate self love" I'd be happy to use that instead. I didn't intend to inflame or insult, just to describe accurately.
