I think FD should install mirrors in stations....the full length ones you get in stores.
Or a mirror drone like a vanity mirror that you can launch to see if you lippy is smudged.
.
I doubt anyone expects to be able to see their own ship in a first person orientated game.
Would be nice to have a free cam in outfitting though

No you can't do the same with a second ship (or be very strong on pilot skill). The external views are so AMAZING and FD show us only that (or at 90%) and based on user experience about other sims/game where you can do that (DCS, FSX, XPlane, Star Citizen...) It's obvious that the game will have the same thing (external view support).

But, FD don't say that statement clear enough...

The story of my friend is true, he was extremely disappointed about that...

so, I'm sorry, but as an Alpha Backer, for me showing this kind of footage is a misleading advertising. Every weeks you add more and more stunning external view on the main website...

While they're not alone in the industry as theres an age old practice of using pre-rendered footage in place of actual game play to promote a game, it doesnt make it right.

It doesn't make it wrong though as at no point do they say "You can play this game in 3rd person view", even if they are using debug drones as Iain says most of those shots can still be done in game using a Sidewinder as a cameraman.

A couple of people have asked me about this too, this suggests to me that it is confusing.
Sure, if you spend time on the forums you know otherwise but to a casual observer it isn't necessarily immediately obvious.
That isn't to say FD need to plaster giant "WARNING: THERE IS NO EXTERNAL VIEW!" signs all over their videos, that would be excessive, but it should perhaps be communicated a bit better..

And, do you really think that a new visitor will think that when he show the video/homepage for the first time?

Star Citizen won't allow 3rd person view in Combat, it will most likely only be allowed on private servers and then only for vanity purposes

I hate to be the one to say this, but 99.9% (ok made up statistic but i bet its close) of the customers who went on to become owners of this Beta were not misled by FD's advertising. These ads are aimed at Joe Average... Do you get where i'm going with this?

Oh, and they also won't like being just space ships, so let's make them avatars! And insides on the ships so insides can be walked around, and in spaceports and hey, I've got an idea, let's do an FPS on planets with the same engine! ... Oh wait, that's the discussion from EVE-O forums before they did all that.

Not that I mind all that, but really, let's have the game out first before we start clamoring for clearly secondary features. Or look at Star Citizen, they started by making a hangar simulator with the first thirty-odd million they got, and now they're over half a year behind and are selling ships for two and half grand a pop.

Also, if a person cannot distinguish trailer footage from actual gameplay footage, they probably shouldn't buy stuff on the internet without adult supervision.

The whole immersion thing is nonsense to me. I've been playing sims for years. Everything from Falcon to DCS to Arma3 allows 3rd person perspective. Those games are HARDCORE sims and the customer base doesn't feel it breaks immersion. If it's pvp you are concerned about then have the game kick you out of 3rd person as soon as your hard points deploy. It still makes no sense to me because if you tried dogfighting in 3rd person in a hard core sim you would get your you know what handed to you. The graphics are far too pretty in this game to not have 3rd person view.

Maybe, maybe not, but if you then buy the game expecting it without doing any research to check what the game is like then you have a lot more money to throw away than I do and more money than sense.

I personally don't think that the Beta 3 trailer video on the website is misleading you into thinking it's flying in 3rd person view either.

Remove all vids showing a bobblehead....I felt robbed when I got into beta to find no hula dancer....NOOOOOO
.
Most release/ad vids for games are not fully representative, heck a lot of them aren't even in game footage....we usually manage to get by

Nice 5/6 far...

Use a sidey.

Top tip

Swap your bindings for pitch to the keys you use for up/down thrust get in a sidey look up and control it loads better. (forward and backward thrust becomes up and down and up and down becomes forward and backwards)

No but real life isn't a video game, where you can have a virtual camera 'anywhere' and which has been available thru out gamings history. PWND.

When you see an advertisement on TV for a new car, do you feel deceived because you will not experience driving it while looking at it from the outside?

Well we can agree to disagree then, granted It's not going to change whether i play the game or not, but I do think its just as disingenuous as any other example you could name from over the years.

The only thing i really have to take issues with is that last bit as the only thing I have really tired of on this forum since the Alpha days. People constantly defend every criticism using the "if you jump through this hoop/because my use case is different to yours, its not a problem" position. It just an argument to me that hold no water. Their advertising and fan made videos they link broadly promote what would appear to the uninitiated 3rd person views, it doesnt. I'm not as interested as the OP in using it as an angle to demand changes because thats what i'd prefer more, but it is what it is and i agree.

I agree with this 1000%. It breaks my 'Immersion'™ ®©

Hello FD,

Can you please remove all videos where we can see external footage / view of the game ? And please do the same on ALL your videos published on Youtube, Vimeo...

Because, If a new visitor can see that, he will think that he will be able to do the SAME in the game but as you know, no external views are allowed... (For unclear, obscure reasons)

I think that is a misleading advertising.

One of my friends said : wow, amazing external views after visiting your website/your youtube channel. And I was forced to said : No, sorry, you'll not be able to have the same views... He said : What ? It's a joke???

I'm ok with your "philosophy" but, don't attract new players with this misleading advertising.

Or give us a permanent and definitive answer about that and when : for me, have a drone camera will not probably let us to make some video like we can see on your website.

Thanks

I checked on the ED's website and I can't see any mention about the fact that the game will not have external view.

I think that they just add this somewhere. yes, like : WARNING: THERE IS NO EXTERNAL VIEW (for the moment and ask why and the future plans about that)

Maybe for some people here, external view are not important. But it is for me... We had a lot of thread about that in the past, so I'm not alone.

Be ok or not with that is not the problem, but a new visitor will naturally think that he will be able to do the same. And right now it's wrong.

The OP is dead right! I saw one of the videos from Frontier, and was given the misleading impression that the pilot's seat of my ship would contain a virtual David Braben babbling on about nerdy stuff. Imagine the betrayal I felt when I loaded up the game. Frontier killed my inner child. I demand a free Thargoid as compensation for emotional distress.
