Lets all do the conga, lets all do the conga, la la la la la, la la laaa la!

Best news of the week! This is all it'll take to get me playing again :)

Let's not get too carried away until we know exactly what it's offering... But fingers crossed :)

EDIT: I've asked if Michael can clarify with:-
- Get a simple external view of your ship from a variety of angles/distances?
- Point the camera away from your ship and in effect get a cockpit/HUDless image of the view ahead of you?
- In supercruise and in standard flight?

If asked if it's available in SC and standard flight... Not heard back yet...

We also have no idea what contol (if any) you have over your ship while using the camera...

No control I would hope! There should be zero benefit to using this in game beyond the joy of seeing your ship and possibly assessing damage to the hull.

How awesome would it be to actually have it as a maintenance drone that could repair stuff from the outside?

This though using a third person view point doesn't really help you in combat when you have a 3d radar that tells you exactly where your target is :)

Now this should give the paintjob market some kick. :)

ONLY if they fix it so that the external paintjob for your ship is rendered in your client, a simple enabling of the external camera without that wont show you your paintjob, afaik :(

will be ever so pleased to be wrong and buy a paintjob in celebration

You're telling me you wouldn't want to see you ship pivot/turn/yaw, vents open/close, gear open/close, guns fire from an exterior viewpoint?

Ok, stuff like landing gear, lights and vents would be fine as that fits in with my mental image of it being an external maintenance drone, just no flight control.

No, because people will try to fight with the external view and when they fail they'll blame FD for lack of indicators when in external mode. There's enough moaning on this forum as it is without giving people more opportunities.

why not have camera views in the station, almost like CCTV feeds, now that would be cool to be able to record the events inside the station, it would be something that was only accesible in the station interior

Huh? If someone's daft enough to use a "debug" view that's completely inappropriate for combat, while in combat, then I doubt they'll even be able to register for the forum, yet alone be able to post a message to complain about it! :)
