So excited, I wonder if it will be visible, fly it to a buddy and mock up some sort of service drone thingymabob!![]()
Nope, unfortunately not, an invisible camera with no power or storage requirements. So no new "photography" or "spy/private detective" missions to go along side.
Hopefully one day it will be fully implemented though.
OK! We have some information from Michael!
Can the debug camera be used to get shots of from various angles/distances around your ship? - Yes
Can the debug camera be used to in effect get a cockpit/HUDless screenshot? - Yes
In Supercruise? - Yes
In standard flight? - Yes
Well congrats OP - you got what you wanted!
10 out of 10 for perseverance, and it goes to show that if you approach a request in a courteous fashion, it can be granted.
Consider my cap doffed.
Ah well, still chuffed -- OOOOooo high rez selfies in solo!
PERFECT - a nice screenshot tool that is 99% useless in an actual gameplay sense. =D Looking forward to it.
Yeah this is why its rather disappointing to me, I can already do this in my clipper (well not the selfie part :-D), its top window is big enough to not have any part of the ship in view while taking a picture.
Plus with all the other half implemented stuff that is in game, with no word from the Devs if these will ever be improved, will this half implemented idea (its a debug tool at the end of the day) ever be fully fleshed? and how long will it take? Naval progression missions are one of the worst things in the entire game and havnt been touched once in over 2 month so far, so my trust that these things will ever be improved gets less and less by the update.
Yes... that's right! An External View!
Oh My!
Thank you FD! Thank you SO much!
Lost for words... Brilliant!
We have waited a long time for this!
AWESOME!

Forgive me if I don't entirely understand the logic between giving us access to a simple debug tool instead of actually developing the vanity camera mechanic. I want to be able to see my own ship, sure, but actually using the game's features and making sense in the universe. For something so minor I was happy to wait until it was actually developed. I bet this will never go beyond the debug camera if the peanut gallery finds it satisfactory, ending up on the backburner until the heath death of the universe, along with every other feature they promised would improve past its initial state.
If this works the way I think it will, I reckon the store's going to have a run on skins![]()
