You might want to try out the free-to-play client of Rise Of Flight some time. It's a WW1 flight sim that offers a really good record-and-replay function. You can hit a key for starting/stopping recording any time during flight and view the recording afterwards using all kinds of camera positions and angles. And since the states you mention to be recorded consist of merely a bunch of coordinates and vectors, it's by far not as taxing on your machine as many seem to think it would be. I know, I'm using it myself very often when going on a flight, because it helps analyse your maneuvering to "git gud".

In IL-2, a much older game than this, you already could record in game video of your flight. In a very good way too.

Same devs, for the most part. And their latest product, IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad, has it, too. I've just noticed that while browsing through some RoF videos on Youtube.
I've been looking for a nice random and comparatively simple example of what a flight recorder enables players to do. Here goes:

Yes - it has become pointless - the singleplayer is too trivial as it stands and multiplayer has been spoiled by this. Of course I could just not use it, but I doubt playing a game where I'm the only one not abusing the hell out of a dev-introduced wallhack is going to be a lot of fun.

It renders every aspect of cockpit design entirely pointless - want to look through your cockpits floor? Enable X-ray vision for 100 ms. Doesn't matter if you can't control your ship during those 100 ms. Unless there's a delay of at least 30 seconds it is going to be exploited ad nauseam.
Dude we're in space it's not like people are hiding in little cubby holes lol
Us who have a Rift can already look around outside anyway, it's OK, calm down

So is this debug camera going to let you place it at a certain maximum distance from your ship, and have it follow the ship in that position, or will it be stationary in space (not terribly useful if you want to take beauty shots)? I'm thinking it would be especially cool to do so against the backdrop of an outpost with a planet in the background and the sun just rising over the edge. Just think of the screenshots we'll be able to take!

One more thing - debug camera - do you all upset people realize what that is?
That is developers tool given kindly to us players to try it and see if we are happy with it or not and to give them some ideas how eventually camera drone should work.
Stop fighting about it and wait till we can actually TEST IT.
Look at it as a another beta test thing before camera drone.

It has been discussed to death that any sort of external camera will give players some sort of advantage in PVP.
I`m in a camp that don't agree with that- but thats the other story.

Now with new update FD will give us a tool to actually test it.

We can test it, and give FD feedback how camera drone should eventually work.

No matter what is done or isn't done, some people will , nag, whine and ragequit while others will find the new features excellent and awesome.

66,000 forum users.
66,000 opinions on how the game should be.
2,000 people who actually makes solid arguments.
64,000 donkeyhats who are just... *sigh*
It's damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I don't think the debug camera will have any considerable effect on gameplay.

The radar shows the location of others anyways, and in the case of silent runners hiding behind asteroids... HUH?!

You really think the debug camera will do jack poop about that tactic? Even if you could peek around the "corner" of an asteroid, you'd still have to move around to shoot.

Personally I'm looking forward to all of the "I went to the debug cam to take some pictures and crashed in to a sun, how could FD be so stupid?" posts once 1.2 ships. You know they're coming...

I can't see this view giving much of an advantage if the instrument panel can't be seen, in driving games the in car view is always the best view becuase there is no camera damping, the damping effect will mess with accuracy quite a bit.

Possibly. But you can't base your decisions over the implementation of features on that. We'd all still play E.T. on the Atari, if developers typically did that. :p

also I almost forgot to mention this - in external cam mod your ship will be immobilized according to the news.

Sure? I thought that controls would be disabled but the ship will continue on the vector it had prior to entering debug camera. Otherwise it's a pretty exploitable aerobrake.

Close, but no cigar. Michael Brookes said that if your ship is moving, it will continue to move when in external cam mode, you just can't control your ship because you're controlling the camera.

No, I'm really honestly looking forward to them. They'll fill the gap left by the "I shot a police Anaconda and it shot back at me, how could FD be so stupid?" posts which have gone since the friendly fire changes.

Thanks for info - same effect. Why would I do that to myself in combat situation?

Can someone explain to me how this will give an advantage to pvp?

Planetside 2 has both views and it's pretty helpful to switch back and forth to go from accurate damage to better situational awareness. If everyone can do it how does that give one person an advantage over another?
