FA-Off while using M+K suggestions please

Well I'm getting the bug to give FA-off only another go (it has been a while since I gave it a go and I can't remember why I stopped tbh)

But using only a M+K (as I travel a lot and won't be taking a HOTAS with me!) I'm looking for suggestions for keybinding setup that work well for you experienced FA-off pilots.

Call me daft but...

Oh and for the life of me why isn't there an option to bind/link relative mouse control with FA-off toggle button?! I mean come on !!!!

I've not attempted it via M+K but I do now fly Fa/off and rotational correction off too although landing on a station is still very hard to do so I end up taking planetary missions as much as I can ;)

Enjoy and have fun CMDR!

Cheers Bran.

I'm going to have to spend some time I think to get a good setup for full FA-off. I'll probably switch it back on for docking at rotating station but outposts etc I should need it. I hope!

I'm also hope some the experienced FA-off pilots can give me some tips for using it with M+K

Turning FA-off turns rotational correction off too. It's strictly an FA-on setting. Try it. On or off, it makes no difference with no flight assist.

Cheers I'll play around once I get back into civilisation!

Do you go full FA-off or just select times? And what do you do for SC? Set up different keys for movement control?

I fly with assist off 100% of the time, even when docking and cargo scooping. Supercruise can get a bit annoying but you get used to it, especially with interdictions.

Thank you! Someone else who actually understands this!

I think keyboard is all you really need to fly FAOFF. Having analog axes is less useful than you might think when you don't have automatic centering of rotation. I used to play Orbiter with all keyboard, and I prefer to use keyboard for Lunar Flight as well. In ED I use keyboard for thrust and throttle control with my left hand and I'm too cheap to buy a HOTAS throttle.

Forget the mouse. Something like this should work:

W,S = throttle forward and back (works like thrust in FAOFF)
space = set throttle to 0
A,D = thrust left, right
R,F = thrust up, down

KP 4,6 = roll
KP 8,2 = pitch
KP 1,3 = yaw

You should at least try and learn to land with FAOFF. If you can't do basic things like that you're not really flying FAOFF, you're just turning FA off and praying. :p

The only issue I came accross is that ED forgets your throttle position. So that when you turn FA on it will set the throttle at your current heading and velocity. A slide throttle eliminates this issue. That said, i believe some CMDR have made a macro that turning FA on automatically sets their throttle to forward 50%

How is your Keyboard setup for thrust etc? I've played a round with a couple of different setting but nothing feels 'right' yet.

Can you do me a favour mate, hover above a pad (rotating station) with flight assist off, now disable rotational correction and observe what happens. Been flying pure FA-OFF from Gamma, with correction off the ship will begin to drift.

Am wondering if the devs changed something recently, previously FA-OFF & Correction was defintely independant of each other.

They have been independent for as long as I can remember. Here is a video from 9 months ago showing it as being independent:

OK FA-off is way more fun but man do you have to concentrate!!

I took off about 5m above the platform and switched FA-off. I immediately began to drift away as the pad rotated away from me.

I'll see if I turn the correction on again if it does anything.

Oh yeah just got my first half million bounty credits with FA-off as well. hard work but fun

I did exactly the same as in the video and got the same result.

Turning rotation correction on/off didn't do anything when I had FA-off. FA-on however I shot all over the place when I turned RC off.

And landing with FA-off?! that is going to be a skill thing!!

I really need to learn FA Off. I turned it from a hold key to a toggle but I'm at a loss as to how to manuever, couldn't get into supercruise or hyperspace, only just figured out to keybind a throttle to 50% forward so that I can maintain a decent speed of any sort, realized I'm utter garbage at this game when I turned FA off. I want to learn it but I don't know it well enough or have enough time to practice it.

I know for a fact when I turn FA off in a station I rotate with it but when I hit the End key and the ship tells me RC is off the station starts to rotate and I get slammed into 'stuff', if I hit the key again then the ship and station are at peace with each other again . :)

I'll try to get a video done tonight... Unless I've totally lost the plot of course which may be the case :D
