FaceTrackNoIR Guide with PS3 Cam

too bad CL decided to start charging for that driver that has long been free.

Depending on your lighting situation you may not need a visible light filter. I don't have any lights behind me and it works well without one. I just messed with the gain/brightness with the video filter options in 'CL-Eye Test'. So I'd say if you have a pretty dark room try that out before you go digging for floppies/gels.

If anybody wants to use a 3 point headtracker with facetracknoir search google for the DelanClip. They are much cheaper than the official trackir tracker, better built and work just as well! they are made to work strait away with the software. I didn't have to even set mine up, just select the point tracker plugin and you're good to go.

I don't sell these but I've been very impressed with the one I bought. It costs around £25 from what I remember.

Haha, I just recently found out about the Delanclip. I ordered one 2 days ago. Hoping it gets here shortly after or before the Standard Beta.
I tried the face track API and while I found the technology very impressive considering it was working with a PS3 Eye I'd only spent $5 on, it wasn't accurate or responsive enough for any kind of Dangerous multiplier.
But I was so taken by the idea I had to throw down some money (Not to Natural Point, thankfully) so I can join the truly Elite pilots :p.

6. Remove the ED test 2.ini file from the zip folder I have linked below:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/98632834/Ed_test_zip.zip

and place it into the same folder ( Facetracknoir/Settings), I have got some settings that now work really well with Elite Dangerous.

I did all the steps, including this one, and I can see that this includes a pitch up curve that clamps at 90 (-90.0 to the game as it's inverted), but until I edited the curve slightly it wasn't in fact clamping. Some foible of FaceTrackNoIR ?

Anyway, working now, I rep'd you up, and I'm just going to have to get used to using my head/neck as a virtual joystick now....

Does this happen to you?

sometimes when game crashes and you hit play in launcher again (if you forget to relaunch Facetracknoir)
game doesnt recognize it... weird
It seems to be working but game ignores it.

ps3 cam driver

Commanders... can someone share that eye cam driver again??...links are all redirecting to that homepage.

followed this guide, only I am using a crappy microsoft vx2000 webcam,

its working a JOY, absolutly shocked how good it is,

no need for a fancy track ir now,

+rep for you

Thanks for putting this together, G.T. I had a PS3 eye sitting around collecting dust, now it's adding even more immersion and entertainment to a game that was already kicking ass. Paired with Voice Attack for voice commands, this is what I always imagined gaming could be. (Well, at least until I get my hands on a Rift... ;) )

Anyway, to anybody reading this with a PS3 eye, give this a whirl. It's not 100%, even with a powerful computer there is still some lag but that's the nature of the head tracking. But it does make looking around the environment highly intuitive, which makes docking a breeze and combat way more fun. Do it. There is nothing to lose.

I have the free version of the CL Eye driver. Anybody who needs it, PM me and we'll figure a way to get it to you.

Thanks again, G.T. Wish I could buy you a beer in game.

^^yep...exactly my thoughts.

Thanks for the guide! Very helpful. I was putting the CSV file in the wrong location so that's why I couldn't get this to work before.

And to everyone asking for a copy of the driver - just pay the $2. If the developer of the driver wants to start charging, then more power to them. It's worth it to get head tracking without spending a lot.

Is it me or is it the way it works but I have to turn my head an awful way to get it to look either side or up or down. I'm finding it's straining my neck and eyes trying to use it. I'm using a ps3 cam, would another web can be better? It sits in top of a 24inch monitor. I would like to get another screen but considering the amount I've spent on this game already I think ill end up broke and divorced. I'm out buying a headset to use voice attack as the ps3 cam picks up too much back ground noise and keeps making my ship go silent or drop my cargo at the inconvenient time and places.

I guess I got the driver right before they started charging for it. Weird since they apparently don't update it anymore. Or have they? Either way, I've been using facetracknoir for a long time with various games and have never had any issues with it. I use it with a Delan Clip.

Will try Opentrack tomorrow, given it updates more often.

You probably want to play with the 'Curves'. Move any existing points to the left (the x-axis is the input from your head, the y-axis is the output to the game).

Played around with the curves. Its very nice. I managed to get all axis working (X, Y, Z, Pitch, Yaw, Roll) without the head wobbling around. Means i can move around, lean forward to get a better view of the monitor, twist head and so on, in the cockpit.

I´d love to get more freedom in game for the x,y,z, axis because the move limit or however you call it is very small. Its like ur head bangs into an invisible wall when you reach the limit of the range. I want to be able to bang my virtual head into the cockpitglass when i messed up :D

Hope you get it working too. I really dont want to play Elite without it anymore.
For me the only thing that annoys me is that my room is all light up in the night for the software to recognize my face. :(
maybe i´ll try the LED thingy

see you in space cmdrs

I have a spare DelanClip which I bought but then never used. You could also try Hatire and use the hardware from ED Tracker (Hatire was around first) but then translation wouldn't work (too many errors with 2nd integral of acceleration and the exact reason Occulus added optical tracking!). The perfect solution would be STEM when they are released as they will allow sub-milimetre tracking of both position and orientation.

Could you post your curve settings please? I've had a play around and I'm just struggling with the head bobble now, maybe your settings will help.

Hello all,

Yet another NOOB here [YAN?] I have A PS3 eye and I was wondering what the difference in performance is between Opentrack or TrackNOIR in ED versus butchering the PS3-Eye and using a Delan Clip.
Is the performance delta worth the effort and expenditure?

I'm new to the modern gaming paradigm but not new to Elite as a concept (having played it on my BEEB, my Amiga 64 and my PC) in my 20's and thirties.

If you butcher the PS3-eye to make it IR tracking specific that's a 1-way street it appears to me as the use of film negative or diskette media as a filter means only IR will thereafter get thru.

I do have a Delan clip, and 2 possible cameras to use with it, a cheap Logitech C160 or the PS3-eye.

I understand the frame-rate of the C160 is not as good compared to the PS3-Eye, but does C160 + Delan clip beat PS3-eye and TrackNOIR?

Or, should I just sacrifice the 2nd-hand PS3-eye (£8.00) and mangle it for Delan-clip usage anyway?

Never tried head tracking in any game, so it is all new to me.

All advice gratefully received.

Dan.
