FaceTrackNoIR Guide with PS3 Cam

Is there an Installer avail? I downloaded the win exe from git.hub. Its a folder called install but there is nothing to install, or did I miss something?

That's the installed software data.

Achievement unlocked: installed!

The directory's called that, cause on Linux, where it's built, it's like that:

/home/sthalik/opentrack/build/install

What you get is:

% pwd; tar Jcf opentrack-win32-date.tar.xz install/
/home/sthalik/opentrack/build
%

Then the bleeding thing's uploaded to Dropbox.

I'm using a PS3 Eye, but when I launch FacetracknoIr and start the tracking my webcam input doesn't show up. I've restarted my PC and I followed the instructions to the letter so i'm unsure why its not working.

Here's a photo of what I mean, if someone could tell me how to fix this it would be great.

Is your CAM software running?? if it is turn it off..

I have put together the following guide... Hope that helps.

Yes it did, thank you so much! Was having such a pain in the butt time of it with Freetrack after Beta 2.0. Your guide worked flawlessly :)

I am using it with a 3-point-clip device (here's my construction guide) so I am obviously using the PointTracker instead and I had to invert yaw, and it's working perfectly!

what settings do you change in game for it to work..?

I just followed the guide on page 1 of this thread, step by step. Didn't need to change anything in the game itself. Make sure the game is not running, once you've got FaceTrackNoIR installed as described, launch it first and click Start to make sure it's tracking, then launch the game. It should automatically start using the head tracking.

I have put together the following guide which should help people who buy a ps3 cam (£5 - £10 on ebay second hand) set it up and use it with ED, including a settings file that has curves put together that work well with the game. The game may work ok with other cams that can provide 120+ FPS but with this cam being so widely and cheaply available on ebay, and works particularly well with FaceTrackNoIR, I would thoroughly recommend it. No adjustment to the cam necessary.

1. Download the drivers for the ps3 eye cam (CL Eye driver) at http://codelaboratories.com/downloads/

screenshot included:

ps3cam%20driver.jpg
It costs $1.99 but worth it for the best driver. If the option to buy is not there, use Compatability Settings on your web browser.

2. Install the drivers and insert the cam AFTER installing the drivers.

3 Enter CL-Eye Test, a program you get following installation where you can test the cam picture. cam should be working (initially took me a couple of goes opening and closing). Under 'Capture', Enter Frame Rate as 120 (FPS).

Close down window/program.

4 Download the latest version of Facetrack NOIR which is free at http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/information_links/download.htm

Choose full installer of v170.

5. In order to get facetrack noir working in Elite Dangerous, you need to download an updated file called 'Facetracknoir Supported Games.csv' at http://sourceforge.net/projects/facetracknoir/files/

The file shortcut should be: http://sourceforge.net/projects/facetracknoir/files/FaceTrackNoIR Supported Games.csv/download

You need to download it and replace the 'Facetracknoir Supported Games.csv' file in your Facetracknoir/Settings folder (wherever you installed it) with the new one.

You may need to reboot to ensure new version is working.

6. Remove the ED test 2.ini file from the zip folder I have linked below:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/98632834/Ed_test_zip.zip

and place it into the same folder ( Facetracknoir/Settings), I have got some settings that now work really well with Elite Dangerous.

7. Open up Facetracknoir, and make all the settings exactly the same as on the screenshot below:

facetracknoir%20settings2.jpg
Note the profile from the zip file is selected.

Press 'Start'. Tracking should start... (you should see yourself with yellow box round your lower face),the best place for the cam is just under the monitor looking up, apparently it works better than on top of the monitor. It is possible to buy ps3 cam mounts on ebay, or fashion something at home to do the same job. Then run 'Elite Dangerous' and it should work fine.

Note, you initially may need to centre yourself looking at the screen and press 'Shift-Home'. (I changed it to Shift-Home on mine from the default 'Home' as that key was already in use, the setting can be changed in the menu if it clashes with other commands.) When you look side to side in the cockpit, you need to look slightly down at each side to see the menu - this is to not activate the menu when just looking sidewards.

Hope that helps.

This is awesome I used the above instructions and works 100% thank you. I now have voice control and head tracking. Cannot wait till the game is released.

Thanks

I don't know where is a mistake. Everything seems fine but I cannot see myself in FTN and cannot make it work... :(

Skype is working, CL-Eye Test is working. But FTN just does not start the camera. It is just blue dot without red.

I can have it run without CL-eye test, no difference. And the PS3 camera is inserted like a USB Camera-B4.09.24.1 which could be detached in the lower right panel.

Hm, got it. Bad codecs. If you will get to similar situation then use codec tweaker and install new k-lite codec pack. That helped me.

But there is another problem. There is only 60 fps written at my face. Why not 120?

Make sure you are running FTNIR as an Administrator. Right click the shortcut and make sure that box is checked. Hopefully that helps with cam detection. For 120fps you have to use the low-res mode. Change the setting in CLI-Test if it's not in FTNIR.

Lego IR Head Tracking Device

Hello all, just popped in to thank the OP for putting me onto this idea for making a super cheap tracking device.

Here is a sample photo, there are a few more here (http://s1120.photobucket.com/user/Nailzcat/library/Public%20Album/Lego%20IR%20Head%20Tracking%20Device)

The video of it working is here:

If anyone has any questions (other than why I still have Lego lying around at the age of 34) I'm happy to try and help. :)

By the way, I'm aware of the irony that I am using an IR tracker with FaceTrack - NO - IR... but it worked a bit better for me!

Thanks for the appreciation guys, I'm just chuffed it has helped some of you having had the same frustration myself getting it to work. I ask plenty of stupid questions so glad I could give something back.

Oh... my god...

I was kinda skeptic, but this is so cool. Soon as I figure out how to with this new system I'll make sure to +Rep you!

Facetracknoir is probably fine but it needs some improvements. Head view can't pitch up above 90 degrees, pointtracker and accella 2 plugins are outdated.
Open Track is better and up to date.
