FAOFF Appreciation thread

Same.

Quick update on J-Curves, accepting I may be the only one who hadn't figured this out. You can create two profiles for one stick, so A) for faoff (customised curves) and b) for default curves. Give each profile a different Hotkey and you can switch between the two. I've asked the author if there's a way for to use one Hotkey as a toggle between two profiles.

It's a slight nuisance, but I've setup Voice attack to go back into faon.
Let me know how that goes, meanwhile, I have voice attack and I never use it maybe I should.

Still tinkering, but so far so good. Hotkey toggle would be ideal but this does work...quite well actually.

VA is awesome, I'd recommend it to anyone of any style and any skill. Keys are better for anything you need an instant response for ofc, but mine's set for stuff like recording, docking permission, deploying scoops and gear and, when I'm trading I set it up for the Galaxy Map just so I can lounge back with a Brandy and wave my hand imperiously*:

Effectively, it's good for managing admin and does add to the immersion; record on/off is very nice to have.

How in the world are you doing that? how do you request docking permission? Teach me please, I only know the basic of command.

Your VA-Fu is weak! *chop chop swoosh kick swoosh* Mine is stroooonnngg!!1!

Take your time with it dude, it takes a bit of getting used to. The essentials are here:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=53846

I started with his profile, then changed some of the keybindings to suit me.

The Galaxy Map is actually straight forward once you get the gist of it, you're using a prog called nircmd to read a text file then drop it into the search box. I'll upload my command later if you want, give you a template to play around with.

Because nircmd is reading a text file, once you've set it up you can create as many stock 'Chat' messages as you like so telling VA 'Die Pirate' becomes an automated copy/past of 'Die filthy scum pig dog your base is belonga me' etc etc. Seriously, VA is well worth the effort.

EDIT:

I don't actually know how to program the fancy stuff like 'Docking', I just used Ishmair's commands; his VA-Fu is stronger then mine :(

Guys,
Finally I made contact with a CODE member at George Lucas, but not in a way I expected. A few days ago I sent him a friend request since I wanted help from other bounty hunters, mind you, I didn't know he was a CODE member, so finally we both logged in at the same time, so I ask him for his help to take down some pirates at Lave, and he agreed to help me so off we went. As soon as we jumped into Lave, he got behind my six and interdicted me. At that point I was wondering what was going on and the rest was history.
Kudos to Cmdr Jolli for gaining my trust, and striking at the right moment when I at least expected. Well played Sir, those pirates do have a lot of tricks up in their sleeves, and they do live up to their name. Therefore, keep your friends close but your enemies closer. That is why I love this game anything can happen at any given moment. Fly safe and do not trust just anyone like I did, you never know if you are talking to the enemy, so start using encrypted message.

I have to admire your dedication I would have been FA-on for that docking.

Thanks, it did cross my mind, but then i thought (if you're gonna be a bear, Be a Grizzly!) FA off all the way.

Nice flying mate you are deadly with the Vulture.

sorry to keep you waiting, but you know those Little ones can put you to sleep in a heartbeat.

It's a great ship shields of a tank and moves like a eagle, kids got to come first mate :)

VA is great, i use it for all my power settings - landing gear - docking requests - calling up the maps.

Nice controlled flying there Jesse. One of my bad habits includes occasionally 'panic' boosting to abuse the maneuverability of my ship relative to larger ships, which tends to make me push out in a vector more than optimal. You seem to have it all under collected control.

One of these meetups should include taking on some CODE members in their 'home' system. Should be a great deal of fun!

Thank you, but to tell you the truth you could do the same all you need is lot of practice, in no time you will be flying like me.

Respect to you Jesse for taking this fight that way, not many would (perhaps including myself), simply because you were going along with him in the first place as a friend "in a wing" and presumably fitted/kitted yourself out accordingly. Little did you know your wingman was going to be your attacker, to me that's a little on the sly side, but like I said, respect to you for seeing it from his sneaky perspective I suppose, and taking it so well.

Edit: I'd give you some more rep but I can't till I've spread some more around.

All I had in my mind when I realized the betrayal was Jaws theme song. I was shocked what had happened, lol

Haha I can imagine it felt like quite a shock, "betrayal" good word, stringing you along and then doing that, sort of a fair fight although not really as you simply were not expecting anything of the like, betrayal because that's exactly how it appears. You live and learn I suppose but quite honestly I wouldn't expect that sort of trust pretence and then breaking that behaviour as he did there, from many cmdrs at all.

Edit: Had you a large bounty or something that he some how came to realise (or something?). I'm trying to think of a reason as to why he would lure you to that system just to kill you whether he's a member of the Code or not, wreaks of desperation to me a little.

At first I didn't know the reason behind his betrayal, but I just realized he had personal vendetta against me due to one of my earlier videos. Watch this video and look at the Cmdr's name.

My latest encounter at least I didn't get jump by a bunch gangsters for once.

Well ok, that is at least something but still to go through the whole rigmarole of doing what he did just to get his revenge is, like I suggest... a bit desperate. You'll have to get some revenge of your own but under no sneaky pretences such as the way he did it. If he's a member of the Code at least you (we if you want some backup) know where to go to go looking for him :)

You had the intel on your gun-cam o_O

Nail hit squarely. It can't have been anything else as Jesse didn't make the killing blow did he (or at least get the reward), well spotted and perhaps one of the downsides of posting our exploits. ;)

That's a really interesting video, I'll be grabbing that for another watch. 1st impression from watching that is that vs small boats the DBS might be best served using stealth to get in close and stay close and mobile...

Lot to think about from that vid, was a good one mate.

@Yodafone
I heard you mention another tutorial is on it's way.
Ever thought about doing a live or recorded training session with FA/Off Pilots?
We could be on TS3 (you can exclude this from the recordings if you wish cos colourful language:) ) to hear instructions.
We could repeat the same tasks, all lined up and you can get some footage.
It would be interesting to see different pilots/ships perform these moves next to each other and to watch it back so we can see the flight path of each ship compared to the rest.
I think it would be intersting to see these moves what they look like from a 2nd pilot pov.
Maybe just some of the basic moves from Vid 1.
Just some thoughts on FA/OFF without having to resort to combat.

This is a great idea..I can see once a week training meetings with a new agenda every week to hone our skills...what a way to really tap into skilled FA instructors.

I wouldn't put myself in that category yet, but thank you.

I respectfully disagree Jesse...in my opinion..you are making a nice name for yourself through your pvp videos...not because they are FA off pvp...but who you dare to challenge..the ships you fight in your smaller scout...and most of the time come out on top.
Its like this...Its admirable to take down a buck with a 30.06...but if you do it with a BB gun, you are a legend my friend.
