FAOFF Appreciation thread

@Yodafone
I heard you mention another tutorial is on it's way.
Ever thought about doing a live or recorded training session with FA/Off Pilots?
We could be on TS3 (you can exclude this from the recordings if you wish cos colourful language:) ) to hear instructions.
We could repeat the same tasks, all lined up and you can get some footage.
It would be interesting to see different pilots/ships perform these moves next to each other and to watch it back so we can see the flight path of each ship compared to the rest.
I think it would be intersting to see these moves what they look like from a 2nd pilot pov.
Maybe just some of the basic moves from Vid 1.
Just some thoughts on FA/OFF without having to resort to combat.

This is a great idea..I can see once a week training meetings with a new agenda every week to hone our skills...what a way to really tap into skilled FA instructors.

Indeed, I have started the makings of a fourth tutorial and am getting through it gradually, but most certainly Redeye, your suggestion sounds most intriguing and I would be very happy if you'd like to help out in a collaborative form. Sounds like Lemonhoko is up for it too, I'm sure Jesse would too and perhaps any others who've been commenting and posting on this thread.

Great idea, I'd expect I'd learn something myself from you guys too, more minds (especially the... going through the initial learning process minds) the better. Sorry if that sounds a tad patronising, but when I created these guides I had to think back as to when I was learning initially myself to incorporate the best tips from a "starter's perspective" which was actually quite hard to separate what is perhaps obvious and was easy to me now but not necessarily at that time when I was learning in the initial stages. In some ways I would expect all you guys have surpassed this stage now but I'm sure the more tricky exercises and perhaps the ones you had more difficulty with are fresher in your mind than mine.

This fourth guide's premise is basically how flight assist can really be an advantage (or not) in combat and everything else at our disposal as a consequence (reduced heat generation for example, inherent in a ship that conforms to newtonian physics [for the most part]). Guide "3", started this learning to COMBAT with flight assist off, but there is much more to this subject clearly that I couldn't fit in to even a hour's long guide, so definitely needs continuing and expanding on. So yes, with me recording these techniques from all of you from an external perspective is a superb idea.

(incidently the debug camera shots at the start of "guide 3" was apparently very useful from the feedback I received, seeing how having no flight assist engaged effects your craft, but holding the debug camera so it was steady whilst my ship was drifting in a certain orientation procedure was quite tricky to pull off, and was only at very slow speeds simply because the debug camera can only keep up with a ship drifting at very slow orientations).

So basically I'm saying in a round about (perhaps long-winded) way, that recording these manoeuvres from a perspective much farther out would be very useful for anyone wanting to learn and have a much better idea as to what is actually happening to the ship externally. And then we can include more combat tips and everything that's entailed, how it relates to wing groups for instance (orientated with a reverse vector to backup your point man and are both able to fly and see in pretty much all directions..) and so many other combat tactics etc, etc, etc.

So... I take you up on your offer. I suppose the best approach is to become friends on here and we can all PM each other with more details, I could send you a friend request myself but the best approach is to anyone interested in collaborating then send me a friend request if we aren't already.

Thanks for suggesting it :)

...death by word count...

Goes without saying I'm at your disposal...if you're going to TS3 it/us I will endeavour to mind my language or at the very least use PTT.

You do say sorry a lot.

You're spot on about the benefits of having beginner/intermediate level students around when you teach something. I know from experience that seeing where people are struggling often reminded me of things I'd forgotten when I was fresh.

One other possible benefit, depending on how much energy you/others want to invest in this, another benefit could be from internal and external clips of selected manoeuvres; perspective is everything.

/growed up head on.

I'm at your disposal and fully appreciate your time and effort with this, even doing this solo is time intensive and time is precious.

/growed up head off.

I'm up for it, it will give us lower skilled pilots a chance to learn from the Ace's in the group :)

I don't mind helping out. I will learn alot. I still find now that I am correcting some of my basic moves as I understand more and more.
Even a couple of days ago I identified a sentance in your vid than I had missed before and it has helped. Something about using a lateral thruster before the upward thruster if I am using digital controls rather than analog and it worked. :)
I just got back from shopping center and was meant to buy a mic but I forgot. I shall order one soon since I broke my last one just to be ready.

We need to find a good location for you, one that gives good lighting.
I think you will get some good material for your vids, even if it doesn't make this cut but for the future.

I respectfully disagree Jesse...in my opinion..you are making a nice name for yourself through your pvp videos...not because they are FA off pvp...but who you dare to challenge..the ships you fight in your smaller scout...and most of the time come out on top.
Its like this...Its admirable to take down a buck with a 30.06...but if you do it with a BB gun, you are a legend my friend.

I have to agree with you Lemonhoko, i look forward to what Jesse will take on next, is it going to be a Clipper - Anaconda - a Station lol. It's great to see the DB Scout punching above it's weight with a tenacious pilot at the helm.

Apparently there is some trash which needs taking out in bast. If anyone wants to put their training to the test i'm heading over.

Add me in game if in, cliff cliffson.

I went over there and the only thing there was a pirate cobra. After an hour of harassing him and getting him down to 39% hull he finally left the system...takes a long time to kill someone when you only have a couple seconds to attack before he moves out of firing range

Yeah, I tried to get Arnul too and managed to get his hull down to 79% with a single 2 sec blast immediately upon exiting supercruise but he ran away because a Cobra can outrun a Python. If you want to take out a frightened Cobra pilot, you need a Viper or Cobra to keep up with it.

That's a really interesting video, I'll be grabbing that for another watch. 1st impression from watching that is that vs small boats the DBS might be best served using stealth to get in close and stay close and mobile...

Lot to think about from that vid, was a good one mate.
Thank you mate, it was a good fight, but disappointed because his rank was Elite and I though he had a better fight in him. But, I think he was still getting used to the stealth Scout.

Yes I am currently deployed to Leesti conducting military operations, and I just got my FDL back into the fight it needed a Oil change.

Haha...Jesse puts the "baton" away and breaks out the "Bat"!

Im gonna try and catch up with ya later tonight....give'em heck bro.

Thank you my ultimate goal is to make a name for all of us. I have a feeling once we all get on the same page we will be terrorizing a lot of those groups. They will be talking about us, the flight assist freaks.

Tom that is a great idea, I am down with the idea of meeting up for training.

I already did all the above, except the station part that thing will evaporate my ship in a matter of milliseconds. I will make a video of my military operations near the station, it is fun for me and bad day for pirates.

Hell yeah let me know a time to go and let them know who is the boss. Also, if we could get everyone else on board that will be epic, worse case scenario we could deploy our unit to Leesti, I got some unfinished businesses over there. so far our wing will consist of:

Myself: FDL
Deathmagnet: Python
OCflyer: Python
Jacob: Scout (stealth)
DarkseeD: Vulture
Lancer: Python
Lemonhoko: Python or Vulture
Cliffson: ASP
I and I redeye: FDL

that is some deadly wing, correct me if I got the ship wrong.

Im not real sure about the time...and hour or three from this post..I pilot a decently kitted Vulture...well its what im bringing to the party tonight...and yes..awesome wings if it works out...will be my first time winging up..looking forward to it.

Even better we need more Vulture pilots, they are deadly in my book. Especially whentwo of them working together, just let me know time because I'm ahead of everyone else so I need to plan accordingly.

After Cliffson left the wing and retired for the night. I stayed in Bast for a bit and managed to get my first bit of PVP with FA off. :D
