FAOFF Appreciation thread

Cool, i'm nowhere near using fixed weapons, but hopefully one day i'll get there.

It's not that hard once J curves is set up, even if the settings aren't quite right.
Still it will take a few goes to get used to it.

I've been doing alot of missions for target practice.
It's still painful to fight small ships (my hand and arm go all funny trying to be precise) but against medium and large ships the damage increase and targetting is awesome.

I still use gimbals for CZ farming but thats cos farming.
For PvP combat and missions I will only equip fixed now.
I can't shoot and barrel roll at the same time anymore but it's worth it for the DPS increase.
I like it cos it complety negates chaff and I can still see my target info. Also great if I'm using MC's cos I still get a target to aim at.

I'll try fixed for some missions and see how it goes:)

Thanks guys I will try your settings tomorrow, I couldn't play today because I was working on this Elite Bad Boys episode I am making. I will upload that video soon.

Nicely done as always Jesse!

And now some comic relief

Proximity mines can work!

Who says you can FA-off a T9?

In other news I had my first taste of PvP (proper PvP not being ganked by a wing of 4 pythons when you're in your newbie sidey pvp). I decided to harass a pirate who was bothering the CG haulers over at Bast.

He had a Clipper, I had a Cobra. Video uploading.

Great job mate, lets change the lyrics though, "Bad boys, bad boys What'cha gonna do? What'cha gonna do when Jesse come's for you?" ;)

Outstanding man, you showed that pirate who is the boss, I just love how he typed you made your last jump with 6% hull, hilarious.

I fly with the mouse... And when I press FAOFF and i "slightly" try to change the bearing my ship gets totally BANANA and rolls and pitch at faster rate histerically. So I Always stop pressing FAOFF, stop the engines and change my pants in the back of the ship...

Not great, I've watched it a few times and picked up a lot of mistakes (forgetting to toggle after firing the rails, firing the MC's when they don't have lock, generally skidding around at full boost) but man was is exciting.

Hopefully next time I'll keep my cool and do better.

Pointers please? I was having some real trouble out maneuvering him and lining up rail shots, though on paper I know his ship and mine would have about the same turn rate.

On the plus side I didn't die and he had to resort to ramming.

Greetings CMDRs!
I am delighted with this thread, awesome one and great videos. I would be super interested in joining you guys for several reasons.
I love challenges involving fight skills, i dislike "CODE" ( from a RP perspective in most cases :p) and try to fight them as much as i can, and you guys seems to have to have some kind of honor code which i do have my self. And of course to learn from your experiences too and share some knowledge.

I have been playing almost as bounty hunter since alpha but during the past month i decided to try pirating and joined Delaine. But always acting with a honor code.
I have a decent fleet of ships but i normally flight in a FDL.

Anyway, i dont have any recordings or even know how to do it, so i am afraid i cant show anything. But i am very engaged learning and getting as better as i can with the FAO, and my latest achievement which i feel very proud btw was making run away a CMDR´s clipper with my stealthy sidey using FAO after managing to put almost down his shields. I tried against other ships( They always interdicted me, so easy to attract pvp predators) but didn´t worked that well since the Sidey is too weak, but at least never died trying :p

Cheers and congrats again for the videos!

Jesse himself will probably want to welcome you as well but great to have you onboard and I look forward to hearing about any input you have.

First of all, major props on your first proper encounter, that's one hell of a mile-stone.

As for feedback? You said it yourself, you were excited :D

Hands shaky, heart beating, swearing under your breath, maybe a slight touch of hyperventilation, tunnel vision banged out to the max, loss of fine motor-control and complex mental processes, ringing in your ears...yup you were riding the adrenaline-beast man.

No way anyone can give feedback on this, you were no where near your 100%.

Feedback on this?
More PvP.

I had to tame my controls and the vector thing before I could begin to learn faoff, I've all the PvP panic to look forward to; that's where you are imo, you're at the stage where you need to tame the adrenaline Once you've got a handle on that, all you've learned now will come back to the surface, the average player will feel similar fighting an NPC and at that point you'll be able to further refine your faoff.

You took a Cobra to a Clipper for your first faoff, fought in an unfamiliar style and almost brought his shields down while at the same time drowning in brain-chems...mate, that was a good performance.

Same with a stick lol, have seen some of the beginner vids? From what I've heard plenty of people fly faoff in varying degrees, don't let the controller stop you dude; honestly, once you get the gist of it, it is addictive.

I'm actually starting to feel like a Sunday driver in faon now; if that makes any sense..I'm not really flying unless it's faoff :D

It is certainly overwhelming at the start, especially if you played the majority of elite with FA on like I did. But once you master small things bit by bit over time, it becomes extremely addictive, and the possibilities of playing around with the ship increase immensely. Once you learn how to control FA off to some degree, you'll never want to go 'back' :D

So true Platypus, once I had learnt it opened up a whole new feeling to the game entirely. You won't regret the time you put in, even if in the end you only use no assistance in spurts. Stick at it, it really is highly addictive, I couldn't agree more I can't get enough of it personally. I look forward to seeing you post a few vids of your progression :) Edit: unless you're a veteran already :O

Haha I don't think I'd ever be confident enough to call myself a veteran, since I reserve that status for yourself, Jesse, Isinona and many other skilled pilots in this thread. As for posting videos, I must confess I have 0 experience in recording though I would be interested to give it a try.

Give it a go mate, Jacob found some great editing software that's easy to use and cheap to boot
