FAOFF Appreciation thread

I've been practicing. It's much more difficult!

But I finally made it through the mailslot. It's not graceful, but it worked.

Looked fairly graceful to me. Good job. I'll often turn assist off once I'm lined up so I don't have to keep manually maintain rotation against thrusters that want to keep me level.

I think it's ok to "flee". You don't have to kill the opponent to win the fight! ;)

Dead on. Have some rep.

Excellent fight, he had no chance against you. Nicely done, hopefully we will meet on the battlefield someday.

Thanks buddy! It was a tough fight and it could have gone either way - especially when he almost had my shields down.

Yeah, it could have gone either way if he could have gotten 2 or 3 more rail gun hits on you. Thing is, you had the initiative most of the fight. Having the initiative is a huge advantage as the opponent has to react defensively rather than acting offensively. That was a great fight.

I won't use rails for the simple reason, they are fixed weapons. I only use gimbals and if my opponent starts blowing chaff, I unlock and use them as fixed. I hope to meet you in combat one day. You'll take me, I'm sure, but I'll give you a bloody nose:D. But I won't hang around and fight to the death. But you'll still win, most likely. And that's what's important.

I think it's a lot harder to meet opponents with gimballed setups in larger ships. Once I run out of chaff Im in trouble... :)

I agree! I just enjoy the sensation of fighting to the last pixelbreath! :)

Well done! The key to landing with fa-off in the beginning is a lot of patience!

Good to see more Cmdrs rising to the challenge once you FAoff you never go back.

Thanks guys, though for that successful attempt, there were 4 failed approaches where I went completely the wrong way, and one wrecked Sidewinder :D

Next target is to get all the way to touchdown FA OFF.

I cannot wait, make sure you upload your failed attempts as well till you got it right. Semper Fidelis!

Class 3 gimballed Beam. Works really good when positioning my fixed weapons back to my target.

I love those class 3 gimbaled beams. They eat shields for breakfast. They like hull too:D I've got 3 of 'em mounted on my python. Not even the Courier's shields last long with those pounding it.

Long time lurker, not first time poster on the thread I think but I just wanted to say you guys are a great motivation for me! I'm out exploring and I take every opportunity to work on my FAOff skills. Not having equipped shields, I refuse to train in asteroid fields so I'm mainly playing with space dust in the middle of nowhere and that'd be wonderful if we had a kind of space-dust intensity slider for it to be more noticeable! Other than that, I'm trying to always align with my ship's trajectory before jumping, and it's often difficult with FAOff only after some crazy manoeuvres, but I'm slowly starting to get the hang of it!

I liked this. Very relaxing "dreamy" feeling thanks to the nice choice of music and the floating FA-OFF flying!
I always trying to relate my FAoff fighting with relaxing music, it gets me going. Anyways, you cannot go wrong with Hans Zimmer.

I never used more than one, but man they really eat shields for breakfast. I am actually started running all lasers/beams setup lately and I am liking it, I like to mix fixed with gimbaled as well.

Welcome to our forums glad you could share your experiences with us. We have a lot of explorers in here, I think you guys understand and appreciate the art of finesse FAoff skills more than the combat pilots. Exploring and FAoff goes hand to hand.

Welcome to the thread Popov!
I also would recommend you to use the combat training missions for FAOff if you don´t want to risk your own ship or you are very far from the human´s space. I used it my self on the beginning and it work very good as a starting point.

Good luck with it mate ;)

Waiting for my non Iron man mode Account is active. It will be active this holiday. It will be all assist off. Once I can do all the control with out Assist off even landing. Both accounts will not require assist.

Right now it 50% 50% assist/assist off.

I will be posting a screenshot of my settings later when I get home. I am currently using a X52 pro and the stick is way too sensitive for my liking especially with FAoff. Onemy friends requested my settings and I will share with you guys as well. Stand by for that.

Hey, I started the same way; some crazy yank posted some vids and the rest is history! Been mentioned before, but when I started out in the black I'd take a break from exploring and spend 20/30 mins in the basic combat trainer (the one with the sidey).

Nothing too much, but just bits and pieces I could work on from Lancer and Jesse's vids.

It will come in time, but (for me at least) it wasn't quick :D

Oh, and don't worry about flying backwards, we all do it :D

been doing a bit of trench run practice in the Icurry, Only section I have problems with are the triangle sections with the crossbeams. they tend to "eject me" from that section on the coriolis. still have not lost it yet, but when trying to land on the ring on a orbius, got taken down to 7% hull though. but its kinda funny how stations are amazingly fun to explore. wish there was more stuff like that, or even things like repair jobs, would be fun to try and get into a maintenance hatch with one of our ships and hold it into a tight position. but thats just me.
