FAOFF Appreciation thread

Great fight. Finally someone who knows how to use their gimbals when an opponent starts blowing chaff. Of course the size of your opponent did help in that regard. I am puzzled by the term "hull tanking". Does that mean installing improved or military armor?

Just thought I'd post this because...it worked!

Fa-off is rusty so ignore that part of it :D

Nice flying bro you are getting there. I see you tried the flying pancake, I never got to try it. Maybe I willing to try the keel back.

Not bad, though I still feel that as a combat exploration vessel, you might as well fly a dbx or dbs. and if you want a combat trader, the asp exp is it. but oh well...

Yeah, bit it's Beat so want to try this one. Bug Reported the Speed on this, if the Speed is bugged this is actually a damn good boat.

Waiting on the Devs to yay/nay the Boost speed 'bug'. Try it dude, stick a Bi-Weave on it and have fun. The Wep convergence is crazy and the fa-off handling is imo damn good. Boost speed aside, it's actually a fantastic boat to fly.

As for the fa-off, I take a month of and feel as if I have to re-learn it all again :D

the thing you have to realise is that its just a game, and besides, There is so much game to enjoy that restarting does not hurt that much.

Very true. And it doesn't take that long to get back up to speed. You'll find you are much better now than when you 1st started and it will go faster and easier because you now know all the little tricks you didn't know when you first started.

FDL is going to be the new king, after many battles in 1.5 I came to the conclusion no ship is scary enough for the FDL pilots.

Interesting loadout - the FdL's main strength is its shield. It's also very sensitive to weight - those mil spec bulkheads slow the ship right down and wreak havoc with its manoeuverability.

I run my FdL like this. I found that running strandard bulkheads and turning it into a shield tank made the ship come alive. I run 4 medium pulse lasers for RES work so I don't have to rearm, but the MCs give you a lot more flexibility to keep pips to ENG, as again the FdL is very sensitive to the distributor settings.

Do you all use custom curves to lower the sensitivity of your stick?
I don't know if we all do. I use an exponential curve though - it makes fine manoeuvering for docking and the like much easier.

Sorry my video was blocked is back up now. As you can see I am loving when properly outfitted, 120mil plus.

Anyone with Beta access up for blowing some credits in some PvP free for alls? Maybe Wednesday, Thursday evening (GMT?)

Practice FA-off, have a laugh. I'll bring the beers?

That video has got me thinking about something. the fdl is not quite a normal ship. In the same way if a group of ordinary people came togehter and build a f1 car according to the rules, and found someone to drive it. its clear that the car and driver combo would not do well at all. The difference between them and a skilled team is the effort that goes into setting the car up, and tuning it to the driver's ability. Perhaps thats why so many people struggle. but it might just be me overthinking things.

No I think you've hit the nail on the head there. The FDL is a great ship, but it is not friendly to fly. You have to really practice to get the most out of it... This is why I fly a FAS :D

I agree with both of you is the hardest to master, but once you do is a fun ship to fly. I actually feel more confident going into battle any ship in the game to include the Cutter and Corvette. I don't do well with bigger ship too slow for my liking. I actually get blowing up with the Corvette because I fall asleep behind the cockpit is like driving a T-Rex.
I'm more like a Velociraptor kind of guy. Anyways here is my latest mischief on the Beta server, and my tip of the day is boost is your friend when facing these Godzillas

You are GOOD!! What a great fight. You'd tear me a new one before I knew what hit me.

Same here. I can feel the weight of my Python when FAOFF. You really have to fight to get her to do what you want once she has some good momentum.
Talking about sucking bad with the Python. See below

The nasty text he sent you was unnecessary. It's just a game.

About the Python. You can't use a Python like an FDL. If you try you will lose every time. Forget chaff. Load 3 A Class Shield Boosters and 1 heat sink. Also put the highest class shield on it you can afford. Also pack in as much hull reinforcement as will fit. I know, I know. What about cargo? Forget cargo. If you are rigging it as a gunship, then you don't need cargo. You need armor. Also fit it with military class bulkheads. The load out looked right although I would have used pulse lasers instead of multi-cannons, but that's just personal preference. Those 3 Class 3 beam lasers are what you need and are the reason you need a heat sink. Now here's the really vital part. Speed control is critical. If you keep it in the blue zone you can maneuver very well with FAOff. As good a Cobra, FDL, Viper etc.? Of course not. But you will run rings around most smaller ships that use FAOn. When I had my Python, I fought eagles and they couldn't hide from me when I was using FAOff. With FAOn, I had no chance. With FAOff, they had no chance.

But even with that, in that FDL, you'd eat me in a Python for lunch. And that's fine. I don't mind bowing to a pilot with superior skills. That's just incentive to improve my own skills.
