FD: Apparently Elite got noticed, not in a good way

Quite the opposite if there are so many of these people who will have to pay for the game therefore funding it further. Some people just have sad pathetic lives. Fortunately most of the elite community enjoy the game and probably have lives outside of computer games.

This is nothing new, the offlinegate mob have been cheating/griefing since day 1 of open release. They do this (in their own words) to drive people into solo/leave the game to force FD to implement offline/go bust and release the source code.

They've failed its a small (but vocal) bunch of sulky types who can be completely neutered by switching to solo to visit Lave/playing in Mobius or practicing evade and hyperjump.

You really are a one track pony. I don't believe this for one minute.

I can't speak to offlinegate but I think you are forgetting what kind of community you are dealing with. People have had real world criminal charges filed against them for stuff that has gone on. One guy had a campaign going to harass someone from the game who was having issues to try and get them to commit suicide. The list goes on and on. In some ways its a really screwed up group of people.

If a bunch of EVE players come to ED, they'll have to buy the game just to grief the low levels. This means more money in FD's pockets and they'll get bored eventually. I say let them come.

...The intent seems to be to run Elite into the ground before it can take off. The plan is apparently to target and grief the living crap out of people, new players specifically until people quit and the game dies off...

Got to love the prospect of lots of people paying money lots of money to FDev to 'kill the game off' by invigorating PvP... bring 'em all on I say... they've only got around 400,000 people across all time zones to 'grief'... funniest thing I've heard in a while...

...and yes of course it's 100% inet ...

Rare occurrences, but I can't see those who wanted off-line only option would go to the extremes described. I think it's slanderous without proof.
On-line has been essential to fix the bugs.
This was necessary because they game was released when it was. I am grateful for the relatively early release. I have gotten to enjoy it.

By the way I am pro online.

Well, how much fun can you have with an Excel front-end?

Maybe so but that said it is a triumph of innovation. It is a brilliant sandbox that FD could learn a lot from . I still play from time to time and if the main game was twitch based it would have a player base 10 times the size. Pure player driven economy , pure player driven wars , it is an absolutely brilliant game with mates. No space games I can see out there that you can build a factory and then get the base materials yourself and eventually build an end product and then sell it to another player.

EVE is a brilliant economic strategy space sim What lets EVE down is the click your ship where you want to go mechanic.

IMHO

I'm not overly optimistic about their chances either if this is happening. Like many have said offline mode exists, it came up last night when I popped into TeamSpeak and there was a lengthy conversation about it and I figured I'd let FD know in case they do see a sudden uptick or a lot of complaints coming in. My guess is they'll eventually lose interest. Plus SC is coming so its going to require a lot of time and money to go troll the entire online space sim community.

Aside from playing in solo or private I have no idea what else you can really do about it for now. Like I said hopefully after a few months they'll get bored and move on.

You got to be kidding me. Are you seriously telling us there is absolutely nothing you can do to avoid being griefed in open???

With over 6,000 populated systems, and an even bigger number of stations, and 400 billions of systems to explore, Considering the mechanichs of interdiction, boost button, and shields and weapons, that statement shows a deep ignorance on Elite Dangerous mechanichs.

There are plenty of choices that can be made to avoid griefing besides just going Solo or group.

To be fair, David himself said publicly that when and if the game's primary server is forced to shut down, they'll release the code with the timed events etc., so that the playerbase can create their own servers as a kind of Legacy version of the game. This isn't planned to be any time soon however, and paying for new copies of the game to give a little grief to new players isn't going to make that happen any sooner. Maybe a few of them might find they like ED compared to spreadsheets and make the switch permanent.

Either way, I look forward to seeing them fail and give up although I get the feeling it will be very quiet. I recommend you encourage these clowns to buy multiple accounts, see how well their multiboxing works when you actually have to fly your ship.

I, for one, welcome our invading EvE overlords. Their financial contribution to our game is selfless and shall fund future development of this long term game.

It's a win-win people. More folks playing Elite: Dangerous; less people playing EvE. Plus, they will have to progress to get anything other than a sidey. They may even like it and stay. After all, $59.99 one time cost for ED or $131.40 annually for EvE. This should be advertised.

Those who continue to cause issues shall be identified, studied, then isolated before becoming a brief footnote to our history.
