FD: Apparently Elite got noticed, not in a good way

Things you have to do when the game you dedicated much of your life and excel database to is propped up against something that is superior in every conceivable way, like ED.
Better question is, why did you, and do you still associate with these DBs?

Well, how much fun can you have with an Excel front-end?

I used to play eve a lot, and i think have some screenies from the good old days.

Here we have a screenshot from one of the most epic battles ever; in the history of EVE ONLINE.

sseve.jpg

I personally remember this encounter well. It's when the might of cell D21 went from 3103, to 3115 as shown in cell D22. This was all over the gaming industry news headlines for 8, yes EIGHT whole days. Seriously epic guys, you should have been there to see it.

I played for quite awhile and if you've ever played EvE you know it requires a lot of time and dedication so you get to know people fairly well over time. I still play other online games with a bunch of them (Arma 3). I've actually convinced a few of them to try Elite, and the ones I keep in touch with are not the griefing type. I wouldn't have joined that type of corp in the first place. A few are dedicated pvpers but they not jerks or the type to bother newbies.
.
Edit: As to why I played. At one time EvE was really the only game in town for space sims. Even though ED is no where near as deep I strongly prefer it to EvE now, plus I'm older and much more of a casual gamer now.

Good morning Lave, this is going on for almost year in forums. Forum warfare anyone? Duuuuh.

Seems they are failing big time though. I guess they also try to stir 'open play vs. solo' debate now and then.

Soo, lemme get this straight. Some guys from Eve are gonna buy the game, learn docking/flight control/combat/fitting/shiptypes, then go out, grind credits to fit out the appropriate ships, and maybe in say a month or 2, be in a position to do what? We have the Code, we have Test and EIC, we're still here. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if those groups started defending the starter systems.

By the way alot of them left eveonline for this game , for the reason none other than wanting a great space sim ... like myself.

You see the only way this game is going to die is the dev makes bad development decisions ... I think those who wanna come

gang up on the player base ... they be fighting X eveonline players ... they wouldn't put these guys down easy they will live to

fight the next day.

You see not all of us are fear-full.

And yes I think it's fear mongering, OP don't bother just enjoy the fight when it finds you.

I'm truly sorry OP but thats just some new level of ridiculous. Elite and EVE have almost nothing in common apart from being set in space. Different games different goals different player bases. Eve wont kill Elite, Elite will not kill Eve. I dont know how serious you are with this sudden doom idea but I just literally can't get my head around this.
And one more thing, how exactly they want to run Elite into the ground? It's like saying - oh no, new Assassin creed game is so popular, it will kill EVE, last stop it - come on, you really worrying about bunch of trolls. All my friends in EVE has zero interest in Elite and its success or doom.

Its a bit of a non-issue, and isn't going to happen anytime soon:

Its going to take quite a while to build up funds to buy a half decent ship - even if they do have existing allies who can bounty-credit them.
Whilst they are amassing the millions needed to buy ships and weapons, they are subject to predation from NPCs and existing E:D players
There is an assumption that being a "good" player in Eve automatically makes one good in E:D. Not so, Eve has no 'flight' mode, E:D depends on it ;)
That game mechanic also means that even if they did amas a sufficient number of well-heeled players, they still can't all assemble together due to E:D's instancing
So, other than try to harass individual players, they cant assemble fleets to attack a station...

Not a lot to worry about. And if they did form "grief wings", I think there are more than enough E:D players to take them on.

Let'em come, I say; the more the merrier!

Any proof of that? Or did you just make it up?

Most people play PVE, not PVP. To try and attempt to claim that most people picked it up for the multiplayer is just not something you can back up.

Nothing about his statement suggested he means for PvP explicitly. The point is a lot of people play because they like being around other players. They may however not like being actually griefed.

That would be awesome to watch :)

I wonder why they noticed us...

Could it be this?

Elite is the steeply climbing green line.

EVE orgs are very nervous about both ED and SC for a reason - it will take away newcomers and EVE new subs will slowly, but surely dry up. Subs is already sliding. Not in a big way, and I frankly don't think it ever get to the point it would threaten EVE existence (because it is so different), but...

they are afraid of having less fresh meat and recruits. ED and SC as skill based games will make resource gathering and management less important - thus putting more power to individual pilot than ship he/she's flying.

So expect all kind of things now and then.

Well, Eve was the only game in town for some time. I haven't tried it because subscription but I'd certainly give it a try if they add some F2P :) :) :) The way I did with SWTOR. So, it might be a good thing. The number of Steam players is very impressive btw. At least we have some metrics now.

Not going to lie kinda hope they at least try. At least then I wont feel dirty morally for murdering them.

How dumb is the idea of very many Eve players trying to ruin ED.

They do not know their maths:

i.e.
Total number of players > 400,000
Size of galaxy > Most can imagine

Ok so there maybe some around the core bits, but it is instanced so most of the time you will not meet them and then there is Solo and groups. They will not ruin the game, they will help the game by giving it cash.
