FD wants to swim with the big fish now

Yes, obviously...
But don't you think that details on what the 2nd season will actually deliver (other than PL on airless planets) plus something more than a teaser would help people feeling comfortable spending their money?
Not mentionning that showing such transparency would increase a bit of customer-provider trust?

Maybe, but that's not FD way of doing business. Season 2 is not on sale and there isn't any details about it. Horizons is on sell and details are giving for that. You don't need to purchase Horizons or season 2 in order to play the game now and receive game updates for the lifespan of the game.

The figure is not underlying profit. It is underlying REVENUE. That's completely different.

See them separate here:

Trading results
In the financial year ended 31 May 2014, Frontier Developments was undergoing a planned transitional period during which we only saw a 24% decline in underlying revenue to £9.2 million, adjusted EBITDA fell from £3.6 million to £0.9 million, we incurred an operating loss of £1.7 million versus an operating profit in the prior year of £1.1 million, and adjusted basic loss per share of 3.0 pence was set against adjusted earnings per share of 7.3 pence.

Season 2 is Horizons (or did I miss something?). And yet they're selling it.

EDIT : @ffr : My bad. I'm a bit tired, should have made the difference...:(

We know several things about Horizon:
That swhat they promised

Promised???

I think not.

What is promised for Horizons is what's said where/when you order.

https://archive.is/e93js

ELITE DANGEROUS: HORIZONS IS A NEW SEASON OF MAJOR GAMEPLAY EXPANSIONS FOR ELITE DANGEROUS, BEGINNING WITH PLANETARY LANDINGS ACROSS THE ELITE DANGEROUS GALAXY.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons launches this Holiday. The first expansion, Planetary Landings introduces players to planet surfaces and the first all-new Surface Recon Vehicle (SRV) the ‘Scarab’. Scanning airless planets and moons brings new gameplay as players detect signals, crashed ships, mineral deposits, outposts and fortresses. Alone or with friends players will explore, mine and engage hostile forces as they attempt to infiltrate strongholds guarding valuable rewards. Players will explore new worlds, coasting over mountaintops, diving into canyons, landing on the surface and rolling out onto the surface in your SRV, all without loading times or breaks in gameplay.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons will continue to introduce new features and gameplay as the season continues into 2016, enriching the Elite Dangerous experience with new activities and new ways to play.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons includes all Elite Dangerous content to date, and all players will continue to fly together in the same galaxy. Existing Elite Dangerous players receive a £10 loyalty discount off the price of Elite Dangerous: Horizons, retaining their progress and unlocking the exclusive ‘Cobra Mk IV’ in-game spacecraft.

Order now and be among the first to land, Holiday 2015.

To me it sounds ALOT, it goes hand in hand with the old "Expansions" approach and we are not talking about 10 moons to land on, look at the galaxy and count MOONS you will be suprised...to be honest i think there are more moons in the galaxy then actually planets...
Do you honestly think there will be billions of different scenarios - or even distinct scenery - for these planets/moons? If it's like everything else FD has done, it will be 5 randomly chosen, distinct, broad categories of scenarios - with heavily toned-down procedural generation to determine what terrain, "fortresses," or "loot" you will encounter.

Well, maybe we should make a push for added variety. That's where the 1.4 mission thing is heading and we'll have a better idea when that drops, as in what can be done. If we don't ask, we don't get.
I bet you're fun at parties...

But we shouldn't even have to ask for it...:(
Game-designers are paid for that.

When you realize that this game is always in a state of development and they are still listening to suggestions made about the Core Game, then you just may realize that if you come up with a good idea then they just might make it happen. Not saying it will always happen but suggestions are always welcome.
This is not a Triple A title. It has always been a work in progress, even since the kickstarter and something those players helped create.
If you treat it as a Triple A title you will be disappointed.
If you think you have a good idea then post it.
If you only whine about stuff, nothing will happen but if you have a good idea then offer it out there for public scrutiny.
If it's good, or even makes them change the game in a small way that makes it more fun then it's a win.
It's 100% better than just saying the game sucks with no feedback whatsoever...so if you care, post any ideas you have to improve the game.

I've read plenty of good ideas on these forums (especially concerning PP), none of them made it into the game yet.

People claim that FD listens to customers - but I have yet to see solid examples of meaningful design decisions that were brought about by the community.

For example, did we really ask for PowerPlay?

In many ways i do agree with you. A road map would be nice, it would give players a better understanding about what they are investing in and a reason to feel better about the project they are immersed in. But coming from a player that has been here since premium beta I can safely say that FD has always delivered what I wanted out of a sci fi game like this.

Just my opinion of course but the life time expansion pass is a must have, if you plan on investing a serious amount of time in the game. I know other games have more glamour, i know other games make more "promises" but what i see from FD..................is PASSION, passion for a project they want to deliver, a project they want to succeed, a project they want to play.

FD doesn't you with promises to get sales, they dont try to hype the game for more then what it is. This is Elite : Dangerous, a game of its own, not a copy paste of whats on the market, Elite has its own soul, like it or not this game has its own identity. and Frankly Im proud to back a game with such balls not to follow the norm and do it its own way.

Just my opinion of course.

Very true, but I do believe that this is the largest project this dev team has ever taken on ( with the current state of gaming of course ) and there are limitations to what they can put into the game and what they cant. Deep down FD would want every single good idea they come up with or read about to be put into the game. But its a hard balance, to maintain identity, keeping the player base happy, keeping investors happy, staying within a budget, being profitably, and maintaining the reputation of FD and DB which I believe they care a great deal about. But FD made a choice a long time ago, to stick to their vision of what they want to deliver and what game they want to make.

Its not easy, even tho we think it is.

Are you sure about that?

Do you have an example of when they have?

I giggled, there is some truth to it. Not complete truth, but its an AD, so not fair in the first place.
I remember someone went so far as to remake it with 'added honesty' though, to be fair.
-.-
The fact still may or may not remain, FD are not showing they can show something to show for what we have seen. That is true.
