FDEV - could we get dev diary back please?

Agreed - bring back "dev diary", bring back "meet the team" (there's hundreds of them right?) and bring back "discovery scanner".

Make communication great again!

[yesnod]

Actually FDev just ' communicate would be a start!

erm.. just a thought; maybe they are sayin nothing 'cuz there's nothing to tell :(

I don't think that Frontier have ever got around to communicating properly with its player base. So many of the issues on these forums could be sorted with just a little two way communication.

I don't think they'll return, Fdev don't work that way anymore. Also add to that that ED is a 4 year old game now.. We're unlikely to see 'weekly hype' type communication unless a large new expansion is announced.

Sorry, No. ED is NOT "a 4 year old game now.."

ED is a game that was RELEASED, UNFINISHED 4 years ago, and as yet is STILL NOT "finished" according to FDev and DB's own content outline during the KS, let alone anything else they want to add.

How many times do I have to say this for people to get it through their heads that this game is - or bloody well SHOULD be - still under HEAVY DEVELOPMENT, not "maintenance mode".

So, dev diaries weekly? no and that's no biggie.

Monthly? Also no for similar reasons.

Bi-Monthly? maybe

Per quarter (3 months)? absolutely.

Anyone know when the last development (not stuff about to be released) information happened?

Too much information before ideas are nailed down can lead to disappointment if said ideas then change. Too little information and people will complain, be disappointed or let the theorycrafting run wild. This too can lead to disappointment, complaints and salt. If it's delayed then that makes things worse. All of the above has happened before to some degree. So in the main they say nothing until they're sure what they have is going to work and it fits with promotional stuff.

Personally I'm happy to wait even if it means no updates for my blog. If I was being pushy I'd ask for an update on whether some features (I'm looking at you NPC Crew and surface mining) are still on the cards. Otherwise, que sera, sera..

Hi All,

Just like Gold 5, I would remind you to "stay on target".

Off topic posts are bad, mkay? As are posts which criticise other posters - play the ball, not the player, please.

While I would concede this point I would counter it with: when you make a mistake, and occasionally a very serious one, you should accept what comes your way as a result.

However as I said elsewhere FDev don't do this - they try to bluster it out, and try to cover thier derriers instead of accept they made the mistake.

FDev's first and by far the biggest mistake they made was offlinegate - they could not make offline mode work - mostly because of the P2P architecture of the game - which would have been apparent LONG BEFORE the game was released.

Instead of announcing that LONG BEFORE the game was released, they waited until a day or two before launch day, and tried to slip it past the KS and other backers with an "oh, by the way, one teensy weensy, tiny little hiccup, it's almost nothing, hardly worth mentionign really but umm.... you're not getting offline mode, kthanksbye"

And just to add an oiltanker load of salt into that particular wound - which was a KS dealbreaker for many - they FLATLY REFUSED to give refunds, they locked down, and tried to hide behind an EULA that they claimed gave them immunity from refunds etc etc and seemed genuinely surprised when a class action suit appeared not long after - at which point they then, and ONLY THEN gave refunds, and just to throw oil onto that already buring pyre, they only gave PARTIAL REFUNDS to some claiming that the time they spent in alpha and beta was "playing the game" and thus they were not entitled to a full refund of the product - despite tha fact that the product itself was not complete.

And this happened in the very first WEEK after the game launched.

FDev, by their own actions(I cannot stress this enough) set the precedent of how they were going to interact with the section of community who expected to GET WHAT FDEV TOLD THEM THEY WERE GETTING - badly, very very VERY badly - and have been reaping the rewards ever since and adding to it with poor choice after poor choice, and this is on top of the FACT that 4 years on and there is still KS outlined content - outlined by DB himself on video as featureS for the game - missing, while other stuff NOT OUTLINED (or even used by players) gets put in.

How they get out of this hole I don't know - but for all the bashing Hello Games gets they are clearly trying bloody hard to fix it, and FDev are conversely seemingly, not.

Edit: Oh yeah - and the ship models of the KS took FOUR YEARS to arrive, and the "cutaway versions" were not delivered AT ALL as "too hard" - with no refunds given for the substantial fee FDev charged for them - naturally.

yeah - I'd call all that self inflicted.

thanks for that post

On topic:

I would very much like to see dev diaries come back, but i`m sure it will not happen

they gave us discovery scanner to silence the beige brigade (me included), but stopped that on 2 episodes and then back to silence

Oh those were the days :)

Dev Diary or any insider information would be welcome.

I don't see it coming back though. Its all too hush hush with Frontier in recent years.

Hi Frontier. Any chance for dev diaries making a come back? Even on a monthly basis... Just a few sentences to comment on what's in the works and maybe a single screenshot of sneak peek preview of some in-development stuff.

You would make a lot of the community happy with that and I reckon there would be much less salt on the forums...

Pretty please?

I figure after the 3.1 cinematic trailer release and the space leg debacle, Fdev will be hesitant to release anything showing anything that can be misinterpreted as a space legs trailer/promo/video. So, basically nothing with legs in it. [haha] I woudn't blame Fdev either... so don't be surprised if the videos/pictures from here on out are from the waist up. [haha]

Here's an idea - release information that is unambiguous, and easy to understand - instead of trailers that show little and say even less.

If people still get it wrong, make a forum post or three saying - "HI guys, just to let you know X, Y, Z blah blah - etc etc, just in case there was any doubt or confusion, mmkay?"

Easy.

And if that information doesn't go down too well, for some glaring reason you've overlooked (such as has happened several times now with other content) be prepared to CHANGE IT.

Makes sense to me :)

Can't rep again so here's a virtual +1!

That trailer was unambiguously about the Krait mk II, anyone watching it and coming away thinking "the pilot had some feet !, space legs confirmed" is just fooling themselves.
