FDev in the news...

Stealing from ... another place ....

the slightly tetchy article appears to have been written by the same person who wrote this, um, somewhat more positive piece about another game tech demo :sneaky:

All those bugs mentioned in the article are Fdevs fault, not the players... Drag munition rollbacks aren't going to put any new players off.

It's also pretty shocking after all these years Fdev still don't test their updates properly. Several of the major bugs in this patch would have been noticed in less than an hour of play (framerate drop, power priority bug etc).
Not if they don't happen on Frontier PCs. These are far from universal bugs.

Thhey should also talk about the last 3.5 patch in Star Citizen... oh my god... No comment...
My last experience (5 minutes ago):
wake up in Arc Corp bedroom... go to the spaceport... request ship, go to hangar... that's not my ship!!! I try to go back to the request terminal but... suddenly died. Apparently there is air in all planet and all city areas, but not in the hangar (chatting with other players it's a known bug) and I was not wearing my helmet...
Fine, let's do it again... go back to bedroom, go again to the starport... request ship... all landing pad are full, I'm position 2 in the queue.... (eh?!?!)... few minutes later I´m position 3... what... is this a game or a post office?? Go and check the "full" landing pads... they're all empty (another known bug)... So I spent 20 minutes in a game where I couldn't even get my ship...

That person, which by the way is the chief editor of the site, recently also wrote this bit.
I'm reasonably sure you won't find any preconceived "negativity" about ED in it, just to put your mind to rest.

I take your point, but given how widespread the bugs appear to be I'm not sure that's much of an excuse for a developer of Frontier's stature - they need to test this stuff on a broad range of systems.

Is everyone seeing the 10 CR restock bug, or just a minority?

Good job forum whiners - made the lazy press think there's more than trivial stuff wrong and helping put new players off - slow hand claps all around!

Lol. Desperate attempt to excuse the mess. People pointing out bugs aren't to blame for the bugs they complain about.

If you don't want bad press for buggy updates, do your QA properly. Otherwise, stop whinging that your buggy, half-finished update is reported as such.

ED has bugs? Yes. But so does every single game, esp. new patches for MMOs out there. However, it's true that a bit of pressure on Fdev could benefit us all.

This patch brought bugs but delivered alot to us players, i for one am quite happy with the new systems.
Some bugs even if u test them out for ages in a closed test server can turn into undiscovered bugs when it goes live, cause of various reasons and all games are prone to that, not just FD.
U need to chill out and give them time to sort things out, cause the alternative is... Ok we wont update anymore, no new stuff, nothing, that way no new bugs! Simple! And no one wants that do u?!

I always scretch my head when ppl start raising up the "star citizen" card, even doe im in this game only since january, i see alot of ppl seen to enjoy to (*) CRY just because they do... And that card is probably the worst ever to use, since that "game" is a pile of (CENSORED), simply that! And as excited as i was when they 1st anounced it, im far from that after all this years and little to show for, only lots and lots of money taken from ppls wallets for a "tech demo" that more than half the time doesnt even run or let u do something...

Nothing in the April update was game breaking, therefore it was not messy. Also, tabloid news from a site that no one has ever heard of is not news. I won't bother giving it a click. This thread wasn't worth creating either.
Power priorities reset bug comes pretty close to completely breaking the game for anyone other than absolute newcomers in their stock sidewinders, but keep making excuses.

Maybe part of making the game more friendly for newcomers is to get rid of all existing players.

Wow. Just wow. The game is in terrible shape, FD have shown they're interested in pumping out as many low quality cosmetic items as possible while shoving whatever half-baked and mechanically ill thought out updates out of the door as quickly as they can with no regard for quality, coherence or good video game design.

The fundamentals of the game are wrong, the trivial stuff is actually the least broken parts. New players should be warned appropriately and be adequately informed before their decision to spend money on a video game.

I like the game, its loads of fun.

I dunno....I know there are issues, and some real blunders, but I still find it very fun. I just started playing 2 months ago and have put in like....200+ hours. That's more hours than I have played any other space sim released in the last decade (not that there's been that many to pick from) and I still have a whole lot that I want to do.

Back when Elite first was being worked on with crowd-funding support, I opted to support Star Citizen and not ED, because the asking price for ED was (imo) ridiculous for a game that wasn't even available yet and I my memories of Wing Commander and Privateer were more fond than my memories of the original Elite (not that I didn't like it, just not as much). I now regret that choice, I should have backed Elite instead of SC. SC turned into nothing but a money-grab with too broad of a scope....I'll be surprised if it ever is finished. ED, on the other hand, was released and has gotten continual content additions. I can't believe I waited this long to buy it and start playing....all just in the hopes that SC would get to a decent place in development.

I can live with the downsides if it means having a game like this to play and it gets regular updates. We went far too long without a decent game of this genre.

Like i said, it doesn't matter what you think the reason for the problem is. The fact is, we've had this since 1.0 and nothing has changed despite people's declarations of what FD should be doing differently.

Frankly, that's because most of the time, FDev did not do anything differently. Which lead to expected and predicted results.

Arguably though, things have gotten worse over the last 2 years. Less investment, increased focus on milking the cow instead, minimal resources allocated to all critical functions this very game lives off.

There have been exceptions. Very few in the last years. But - who'd have thought - those exceptions produced very good results. However, they're not to FDev's taste, hence they didn't make a return.
All that used to be quite different, but those were the pre-release (Kickstarter) days.

At this point, it's clear FDev has very well-defined interests, almost none of which involve their customers. Those are just supposed to be happy about anything and keep the money train going plus provide almost all QA functions for free.
Extremely unhealthy attitude in my opinion - but hey, I'm not running the show.
If I did, a few heads would have been replaced a long time ago - and in my books, Alpha Software barely ready for internal testing has no place in the Release channel.

PS.
Just observing, I'm not heavily affected by alot of issues right now in the middle of nowhere right now. That might change when I return though, will have to see about that.
Once we've reached RC1 quality (in about 5 or 6 public beta patches maybe), things should look better anyway. Just give it 2 months or so lol
